At least the majority of your viewers enjoy your videos, it's great that you share all of your knowledge with us. Looks great and I am not a meatloaf fan but I will eat that. :) I have FD chicken, sausage, taco meat, and browned hamburger. I have been pleasantly surprised. I wish I had a food freeze dryer! how neat!!! I have made homemade MREs also, just not with freeze dried stuff. I found that if I poked the small containers (like your cookies) with a push pin, it works in letting the air escape from the bag. I added a bag with plastic utensils, napkins, small salt and peppers that I save from fast food trips , and then a couple of mints and even some toilet paper! LOL...they were fun to make. Yours look delicious! Glad to see new videos!

That looks sooo good!!! It's good to see you again. I have truly missed you and your videos.My question: I know that you save a lot of space by freeze drying but do you lose that extra space storing the extra water to rehydrate the food? I don't have the big water storage tanks so I have to use other methods for storing water.
@BexarPrepper8 жыл бұрын
Water is an issue for both freeze drying and dehydrating and needs to be accounted for. Canning does combat that issue. Hope you have some water bobs for your tub and showers. Blessings
@janpenland36868 жыл бұрын
I have one for my tub/shower and also have 3 and 5 gallon food safe buckets for water storage. I know that you can't have too much water but my space is limited and I need to plan accordingly. Is there a rule of thumb for rehydrating: like say 1 gallon water for each 1/2 gallon dehydrated/freeze dried food? Will that be enough? I usually, but not always, add my dried veggies directly to whatever I'm cooking. I am in the process of pressure canning my beans to save on fuel in the future. Not all beans pressure can well so I have the water I'll need for them. I also have the water I'll need for my rice, pasta, and cereals along with personal use water. I live across the street from a creek but wouldn't drink that water without major purification. I do know several methods of water purification and distillation if I need to go that route. A Berkey should would make life simpler but right now it's not feasible for my budget. Much Love

Thank you for posting this thought-inspiring video! If we have a major economic collapse, overnight the USA will switch to a barter economy, and food will be the new "coin of the realm." I was thinking of stockpiling commercially-prepared MREs to use for bartering, but never thought of making them myself. This video has expanded my thinking. Thank you!

Glad you're back and thanks for another great video :D My question is this- over time, will the smell from the cookies absorb into the meatloaf (since that's not in its own bag), or does the oxygen absorber take care of that? Since you don't use any kind of chemical preservatives, what kind of a shelf-life do these have?

I like the presentation, and 'liked' the video, but wonder about poison leaching from the ziplock bags when exposed to boiling water. Are zip locks and baggies in general made to be safe for foods when exposed to boiling water?
@hallard0698 жыл бұрын
a google search says All Ziploc® brand Containers and microwavable Ziploc® brand Bags meet the safety requirements of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for temperatures associated with defrosting and reheating food in microwave ovens, as well as room, refrigerator and freezer temperatures.

why would you make mre where meat is a luxury? You can just go to the store and freeze dry a bunch of it. You already think the shit hit the fan and you cant buy meat??? I mostly eat meat, so if I had a mre without lots of meat it would stink. I never bought a cookie, are you copying the stupid military mre recipe where its shitty? heres a cookie that you would never ever buy.

I have conidered a home freeze dryer. My concerns are 1, why open the cookies, in long term storage they will either flavor the other foods or absorb their flavors. 2, why didn't you individually package the meatloaf as well? Just my thoughts. Thank you for the quick response.
