I showed this to my wife she said you are a genius and thank you. It helped us both easily decide on a safe we were contemplating because it provided such a easy way store the hand gun side

You are absolutely right, about ten years ago, many lumber manufacturers started using ACQ (Alkaline Copper Quaternary) treatment on lumber. It is supposed to be five times more corrosive to steel, than the former treatment.

Great Idea. Just what I need. There is a lot of crap ides currently for pistol storage in safes. I don't want a damn wire rod slipped into my barrels. Great place for any moisture to condensate. Nor do I want metal wire or metal anything resting on my gun finishing. I'm going to use your idea and use my router to incorporate some magazine slots into the forward, horizontal wood rest. Thanks for a great and simple solution. JD

You can easily get something to cover that wood support. They make carpet very similar to that for building car speaker boxes. It's cheap and I bet it matches well.

Good point. I was thinking the same. Also, wood holds moisture. My thought would be to use 5/4 x6" Composite decking or Azak material as it's made from solid (non-marring) plastic, is totally inert and will not hold moisture.

It was just raw wood that was being used as fencing, not sure what chemical were used, but an easy fix is covering the wood where it touches the gun

Beware that fence slats are often pressure treated southern yellow pine which requires special fasteners to avoid corrosion of nails and screws. Using a non-treated wood better protects the firearms. Also, in an enclosed space pressure treated wood can have off-gassing that can affect metal even if it is not in contact.

I like the simplicity of this setup and the fact it can fit just about any size gun. I'm going to try making one from Trex decking material. Just need to figure out the pattern for teh face of the tning. Thanks for shareing.

Another consideration is to use synthetic cloth in any gun safe upholstery. Most natural fibers will absorb oil into fiber cells, which in the case of oil and powder can lead to corrosion and combustion problems.

you could make the individual rack lockable by having 2 solid side pieces and run a steel rod through all the trigger guards, then lock it from the end.

treated out door lumber is VERY corrosive. you need to find some thing else .like pine or spruse, maybe a PLASTIC mud flap . just bought one to set my safe on to keep it off cement floor for about $ 7.00. just dril through it when attaching it to the floor. cuts as easy as wood. comes 24x30 and 24x24
