You guys are champions. I built this with a few mods and it is unbelievably good compared to the raw footage. Massive kudos guys. If there is anyone unsure-- This stabilizer is seriously legit.

Bravo!! 5/5 stars. I built one this weekend and tested it out and guess what... IT WORKS GREAT!! I have even come up with a great modification for when I'm out backpacking and don't want to carry the extra weight around with me, I can simply add the weight with sand, rocks or water. When I'm done, I can just dump out the weight and disassemble the tubing into a bag. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!! I posted a video response to show you how it looks and how it worked for me. FUCKING AWESOME!!

no, the subject was on the escalator. The camerea man was on the stairs, which were situated in the center of the two escalators.

@jetkrazee the force involved it' s torque (the thing that you do to doors to move it against angular momentum), so try to add a little weight or longer pipes

Okay careful viewing of video shows how to hold. Watch shadows on the snow. Gees Louise. Use special brain cells to develop attachment for camera like some 20tpi .25in bolt. In video steady cam seems bigger than animation, but is correct. Gimbal will help with pan and jarring, noticeable weaknesses in sample video. Also pro steady cams have more balancing adjustments. Think 20/80 rule. That's why this one is so brilliant.

I put on PVC screw joints and glued the rest. It made the legs slightly longer and I can stick weight inside (and change the weight for different lenses).
@OPE0815 жыл бұрын
@MattRosenDP 3/4" slip to male thread adaptor glued to the top with another small section will allow you to screw a 3/4" flange to the top. And Im thinking a bolt with a few washers on it threaded thru some endcaps glued to the lower ends would work as easy weights...
@Enlazador912 жыл бұрын
I did this myself and the results were satisfactory if you handle it the right way. Every steadicam has a learning curve line. I wonder though, has anyone tried something better than this? Wich one?
@CharlieJamesReader14 жыл бұрын
I used this tutorial to build a steadicam that I used in a short film, shot in London. I used a baseplate on the top of the T junction, attached a square piece of wood to that, and drilled a hole in the middle of the wood where I put a screw from an old tripod in order to attach the camera. For the weights, I cut a dumbell bar in half, slipped each half into both ends of pipe, and screwed weight plates on. Click on my name to check out the film, 'Brief Encounter' that I made using it.

The floor flange has holes. Just like you would screw a camera onto your tripod, get a wingnut that goes through the hole and into your camera

Also, if you have any tips on how to modify this to take the camera low, please pass them on. I may try shortening the arms and angling them more horizontal so that I can get lower before they hit the ground.

Hey thanks guys! I just made it today and the results were fantastic! I made one for my T2i and it works great. It cost me about $7 and I still had 5ft of extra PVC so I'm going to make one for a friend. I'll be posting the results of my steadicam in a few. Hans
@WorldBBChamp15 жыл бұрын
Also, since my camera is heavier, I'm going with 1-1/2 inch PVC. If anyone has any ideas on how to avoid the heavy 1-1/2 inch plate (due to all the adaptors needed) or a better idea for a plate, please pass it on! ..and thanks - excellent concept!

Do you find it difficult to pan with this design due to the long arm on the rear by the leg? Overall I hear nothing but good things about this design, but I just built a rough draft version and ran into the panning issue. I'm a newbie and may simply be misusing it. Any advice from anyone would be appreciated!

Bike pegs? Is that the correct terminology? Where on a bike is it located? I can't place the part. The overall tutorial is clear and you did a good job. Just remember that we read English from left to right so the directions should do the same, otherwise it is confusing at first. It just seems odd to have it done in the opposite direction.

Hey, this is very helpful! I cannot wait to actually start working on it, but I would just like to know where I would find a base plate, and how would I insert the bolt in the plate to allow the camera to hold up? The plate seems to be completely flat and bolt less, and this video doesn't explain where the bolt should go and how it should be inserted.

Awesome job, I clicked the annotation to see how it's put together, and the kid in the video used a bunch of duct-tape to secure the baseplate to the rig. I have a feeling you guys had a much better way of doing that, that didn't involve duct-tape. Could you please let me know how you guys solved this? Thanks again, have a good one.

Hi Ben - I think people realize that you just put the stabilizer in your hand :) We want to know which direction the poles should be in relation your body... i.e. short end forward, long end pointing behind you? Or vice versa? Its not as obvious as some of the other designs (or maybe it is and we're all just idiots). Thanks man!

There's so many question left unanswered with this video. I want to make this but there's a ton of detail missing. Here what I would like to know: What did you use as a base plate and how did you attach it? What size and weight pegs did you use and how did you attach them? Do the weight of the pegs depend on the size of the camera? How did you attach the camera to the base plate? What does the real steadycam look like?

@TheMikeGuy15 жыл бұрын
Yes, I understand I may be asking stupid questions, but they are coming from someone who has never seen or felt any of the equipment mentioned, so I am very unfamiliar with it. But I have another question, since the pipe is 1 inch x 2 feet, should the connectors also be 1 inch, or just a tad bit over 1 inch for the pipe to fit inside it. Same with the floor flange.

Okay explain 20/80 rule. 20% effort produces 80% results. IE: 15 minutes and $8 gets you 80% of a great steady cam. It will take you hours or days of effort and $50 - $1000 to get you the rest of the way to 100%... What's it worth to you? Ben shows it's awesome already. Maybe a little more can be done but who has the time?
