I use 12 madagascar beans in a 1.75 liter bottle of vodka and it makes a deep, rich extract that keeps on giving just refill with more vodka as you use up the extract. I infuse for 18 months up to 2 years then decant to another bottle then refill the same bottle with beans for another 2 years . I have beans that are 6 yrs old that still infuse deep, rich vanilla .

Your doing great love your video❣️ I would cut in half and split the beans , to put in those jars . But really use taller bottles 😁 by FD standards. It’s 1 oz of vanilla bean to 8oz of alcohol ! Btw - I use a coffee bean grinder to grind my spent vanilla bean 🎉 to make the sugar.

Those crappy ones are still fine for using; they'll plump up in the alcohol. When you're done with your beans, do not throw them away! Put in a jar, cover with alcohol. Sticking with whatever alcohol you picked, as you have more "spent" beans, just keep adding the beans to the jar and keep all covered. This will slowly become your Mother Jar. Keep this going. Over the years, you can throw ANY type beans in there, and you'll end up with a wonderful formula that has a unique flavor! 👌 You can also do other things with them, but keep in alcohol until you pull it out and grind them up or whatever.

I love your video. I just joined a vanilla bean co-op as well and my order hasn't arrived yet. I ordered Madagascar Bourbon and I'm so excited to make my own vanilla extract! I'm so happy to hear you call it 'caviar'. Some videos call it 'beans' or 'seeds' I guess by rights they are seeds but 'caviar' is more classy :) I'm loving how well you explained the entire process. I think I have enough time to decide what carrier I want to use. I've seen vodka, spiced rum, bourbon, rum....the ideas are endless. Thank you for sharing your video with us new 'beanies'. :)

REALLY? Can I still get the benefits of ACV? I would love this as I can't get used to taking a tablespoon of ACV!

Love this Wendy! I've tried a few alcohols and our favorite is gold rum or bourbon. And it's been a while, but I think I tried Tahitian, Mexican and Madagascar beans and we liked the Madagascar best.

It’s best too. They extract much better. Unless you want to use the caviar for something.

@@Kynetguy full agree. This is the best way! And why bend them? Cut them in half!👍

What am I doing wrong if the vanilla beans start to mold in the vodka
@sweetdreamweaverart2 жыл бұрын
Are you sure it isn't just vanilla oil? The oil looks like mold but it's just the oil in a solid form

I call bullshit on that two half beans being sold at grocery store. Yes they are old but they are not sold like that.
