I am SOOOOOOOOOOO THANKFUL you posted this recipe! I have been searching for it for over 20 years! When I was a young mother, I did a baking business out of the house to make ends meet. One of my clients had brought me this recipe to make for her holiday meal one year. I fell in LOVE with it of course. Years later my husband and I split, and he kept my recipe box. I have been searching ever since. THIS IS IT!!!!!! Thank you, a million times, over!!!! I am indulging in a second roll right now!!!!

So easy to make and so delicious. I tasked my daughter with making these today while I was at church. Gave her the video with receipe and got her as far as the yeast bloomed. After 1st rise she rolled out the dough and cut with my pizza cutter. They turned out absolutely delicious. She was very proud of herself for someone who never makes much from scratch and never rolls or bread.

In 2001, one of our granddaughters (who is 28 now) attended an elementary school that served the best rolls I had ever eaten. When I asked the lunchroom crew about them, the sweet lady who made them graciously shared the recipe with me. It is almost exactly like the one you posted, except shortening rather than lard (only 1/4 cup), a slightly different amount of flour and no egg at all. You are not kidding that the rolls are absolutely the very best! I didn't think to ask the lady her name at the time, but I saw an obituary last year and vaguely thought, "Hmmm, I might know that lady." I read the obit, and sure enough it mentioned she worked a few years AT A SCHOOL CAFETERIA, and she was famous with friends and family for HER ROLLS. I am so glad I was visiting the school during the time she worked there and very thankful to stumble upon her obituary and finally know her name. God has his ways! Rest in peace, dear Janice, and thank you so much for the recipe. And thank you guys for sharing with everyone what I'm sure is almost exactly the same. Those who try it won't be disappointed. As a side note, my beloved grandmother shared the butter/molasses thing with me when I was a child, except with biscuits. Thanks for the memory. ❤

Yummy Grampa would bring in the country ham from the smokehouse & grandma would put it in a lard stand with hot water to clean off the mold & salt. Then he would slice it off with a big butcher knife & grandma would fry it up & make red eye gravy. Best eating in the world !!!!

Sorghum molasses has always been in my parents home! I loved it my whole life so I always jar a jar. In Alabama you can get it at the Fruit Stand at the Redlight middle of town the really large fruit stand in Loxley Alabama for South Alabama ! In Huntsville there are numerous Sorghum farms all around the country. They usually have a horse walking in a circle at that farm but they do cook it there! And running the sorghum through something that smashes the stalks and gets the juice out to begin making pure Sorghum. If it’s mixed with other syrup it’s not good like the pure Sorghum so careful what you buy! It’s also very healthy and cures coughs and sore throats! Now that’s not medically said so just take it as a side thought!
@tomwyant929728 күн бұрын
@@Fayde-o1h, we have a family who live just a few miles from us who make sorghum. They are well known in our area for their sorghum. We buy a few jars each year. In the fall, they have one weekend where they invite the community to come in and watch the sorghum making process. Like you said, they have a horse walking in circles to grind the sugar cane in the huge stone grinder/press. Then the juice/syrup is moved to the boilers where it's boiled down into molasses. It's an interesting process. Thanks for being a part of our KZbin family. We appreciate you being at the table with us.

Made these and they are the best. Thank you. Also they stay fresh. I used mine for 4 days. They don't dry out as fast as others I have made. Thank you so much.

How did you get yours to stay fresh? As soon as mine cooled AT the dinner table, they got dense and mealy😢

Tom & Melissa - you two are funny. Tom had to work hard to keep you out of the hot rolls.🤣🤣🤣 Tom actually told on his self earlier in the video. Stating he only makes them for holidays because he would eat them to much. Tom good job holding off on not trying one until cool enough for the video. Thanks for sharing these with us. I remember hearing from you that you always follow the recipe for the first time making it. I will be buying a small tub of lard. Thanks you two for creating loving memories & recipes for your family & the you tube world. God Bless you both & your families! 🙏👏👏👏💕🌻

Tom I don’t know if y’all had a Quincy’s Steakhouse or not. They had some of the best yeast rolls and offered honey butter to spread on them. OMG! That was mighty fine eating. My great grandmother worked in the lunchroom at the local school and she learned the recipe on how to make the rolls and we would have them on holidays. Such a good trip down memory lane.

I’m going to try this recipe. THANK YOU for saying you can let your mixture knead the dough. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family and everyone. Let’s hope we can put hatred and division aside and unite for our beautiful country.

Oh wow...these remind me of my mother in law's yeast rolls, she would send them to us every Christmas from Indiana. She's in memory care now and this made me think of her. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe 😊

Your "sigh" at the end of a bite says it all. Thx for the recipe. It reminds me of my Aunt Maxine and the yeast rolls she'd make only for special occasions. ❤

I could almost smell and taste those rolls. The topper was the molasses and butter. I hadn’t thought of that in forever. My Dad used to do that. Thank you.❤
@lisaray8983Ай бұрын
Same here. My Dad would do sorghum molasses and butter and put on biscuits and on cornbread. 😊

My aunt made these rolls. She would fry bacon, country ham, and onion…diced very small. She would stuff the inside of the rolls with the bacon ham onion mixture and bake. Delicious

I saw this video yesterday, Wednesday before thanksgiving. Because of time, I would not have had time to make my usual roll recipe, but this one yields lots of rolls, and requires much less attention. Started it at 8am on Thanksgiving morning, and pulled them out of the oven at 10:45am. So light, fluffy, and soft !!! Already sharing it. ❤ Score !!!! NOTE: I didn’t have Lard, so I substituted with Crisco and it worked beautifully.

Mmm, I can just smell and taste that delicious bread 😋 What I love about your channel is that you show us all the ingredients and explain the do's and don'ts, and/or tips to perfect recipes. I can see why you were a teacher and a great one I'm sure. Thank you both for sharing the best recipes. Love, love, love your cookbook, I recommend it to all!

Nothing like warm homemade rolls. Them being all different sizes is proof that you made them. lol Frying country ham and making red-eyed gravy for biscuits was something I used to love doing. Learned it from my grandmothers. My grandparents all loved molasses or table syrup and butter on their biscuits. I was never fond of it but my brother was and still is. Thanks for sharing this yummy recipe.
