The harvester ants were initially wary of the competent stone placement in the arena. They may be able to drag a dead mosquito into a sandy test tube, but could any or all of them situate a stone with such precision and verve. This is what separates humans from the insect world. That and our absence of mandibles.

it is best not to cover the colony so that it is dark in the tube because it is very difficult for ants to go from dark to light or from light to dark. for example, if you want to look at the ants and you remove the covering from the tube so that it suddenly becomes very light, they get a lot of stress

Btw if you make it comftable in the tube by wrapping it up in foil, the ants dont have a reason to move out. So if you really want them to start in the arena or building a colony, this won't work that well.
