1. Use Acetone if the paint comes off it is water base if not oil base 2. Mark the cabinet doors and mark them and go from left to right 3. Set up your work station 4. Take the doors off (if the hinges are in there without catch and release just leave the hinges in the frame 5. Make sure the plastics in the OAK are LEFT ALONE cause it will be hard to put back, even during painting 6. Remove handing, and have everything into a freezer bag and again label them, also use marker to identify lower you can mark that with marker too. 7. Drawers: first taking the handle off (after marking and everything) 8. Any Plastics other than the one that holds the screws for hinges should be removed and you can always use plastics like protectors you can always add later. 9. You have to clean the cabinet door to not trap the grease behind the paint you can use any chemical degreaser. Especially around the handle. 10. Sanding you can use palm sanders and the sponges. For sponges (you press it against the details of the door to get them sanded). (use good mask). 11. If you can vacuum your sander that’d be great. 12. You’d add the sanding paper (120) and sand the main area, it’d be better especially with a rectangular sander 13. You don’t need to over sand to the bare wood, as long as it is sanded it should be good. Like going over every piece couple of times 14. Make sure you do the sides 15. After sanding, again clean the wood again with the degreaser and also use blower to make sure primer doesn’t compete against dust 16. You can set it up on a box or something so you can rotate it easily. 17. Add primer by brushing and cutting the doors especially around the crack corners (where cabinet door gets depth) and then feather them away. OR you can use Primer Spray just around the hard areas and then use brush for the rest of it 18. Make sure that you get the sides (like 14). 19. And then use the roller for the rest of it. Now the roller can have a lot of paint in it (or primer), so you can do 2 or three and then come back and use the roller to absorb back the paint. 20. Let them dry, 21. Use 220 sand paper and as little as possible, every spot being only touched once. Or you can use sanding block and sand it lightly. And sides 22. Use a paper towel or something to get out the dust 23. Cutting the edges and hard parts. Tap couple of times on top of the edge, Push the brush into the cabinet and pull 24. The secret is NOT USING a lot of paint. And using the brush all over to make sure the painting brush strikes aren’t shown but usually the new paints act like self leveling 25. Use roller to go over the cabinet door. Almost without any paint on it. don’t forget the sides 26. Wait for like couple of hours to dry. 27. Come back with another sand, cut and paint again. 28. If you use regular latex paint you may need something to protect the door, but if you use melamine paint you wont need that. Cheers. Really good job explaining this. I took note and I am gonna leave it here, hopefully it will be useful for someone. If I am missing something let me know:

I coil a piece of tape around the sleeve and then peel it off. For cabinets though I use solid foam roller. And instead of dipping it, I try to brush paint onto it. The less paint on it the better, just barely enough to not be dry rolling. If a spray finish is not vital this works well with a little 0000 steel wool and satin clear coat at the end and ultra fine finishing pads from an auto parts store.

I was a painting contractor for 28 years. I did cabinets a bunch of different ways. You can spray them. You can roll them, or you can brush them. As far as prepping? You can sand them and use a Bin oil based primer, or you can degloss them by applying a liquid sandpaper followed by two coats of paint and primer.
@hanskinslo3265 жыл бұрын
Here's a tip on the rim of the paint can that gets filled with paint: Take a small nail and tap a few holes in the rim space with the nail and a hammer. This allows the paint in the rim to drip back into the can, and when you put the lid back on, it pushes that paint through the holes, keeping the rim cleaner. You can also drill holes with a small drill bit, instead. This is definitely one of the best videos on this subject, and I have some professional experience, so I kinda know.

I watched this video several times in pieces and it was invaluable to my project. They turned out better than expected! I learned several things along the way as a beginner, which I’ll share now. DO NOT SKIMP ON ROLLER QUALITY. I used a Wooster high density foam roller after using a cheaper one initially and there was a world of difference. After getting the technique down, the final texture was minimal and could be mistaken for a professional spray job to the untrained eye. My sister had hers sprayed by a pro and I actually prefer the slight texture, not to mention it’s easier to repair nicks and scratches. I suggest painting in sections if you’re a beginner, starting with the area you care about least. My technique improved greatly by the end. The only part I wasn’t 100% happy with were the detail areas that required a brush. Slight brush marks are still visible and the paint is not quite as thick in those areas. I considered using a can of spray paint in those areas like the video suggests, but ultimately decided against it since I was 75% done by that point. It may have been worthwhile. Most importantly, this project was not hard, it just required a lot of patience.

This tip alone will save anyone who uses it many many hours of tedious and frustrating work and yield a higher quality finished product. Painting the recessed trim on doors is by far the least enjoyable and most skill demanding task in painting cabinets. Taking this a bit farther, one could stack the doors half a dozen high, line up the edges and spray all four sides too. Well done….. again! Cheers

I actually put the cabinet number in the recess for the hinge and put a small piece of painters tape on the hinge with the corresponding cabinet number. I also made a post note and posted it on the wall with how the cabinets were numbered(left to right and upper/lower). For the drawer fronts, I put the number on the back right in the middle so that it would be covered by the drawer box when they were reattached. I was able to use an airless painter sprayer in my basement to do the painting. I love how my cabinets came out.

He should have used a foam roller along with the brush, or a sprayer, when he was painting his cabinets. His roller is too thick and he didn’t use the roller on every flat surface so you’ll see a lot of imperfections, texture and brush marks on his job Overall not bad for diy though. But keep in mind everyone, cabinets are a tonnnn of work for homeowners. Not as easy as it looks on a KZbin video. We’ve had to fix so many where customers tried doing it after seeing a KZbin video, then they ended up applying paint/primer unevenly or their cabinets started peeling after they painted

tip: only on metallic paint cans make 4 holes with a nail in the channel edge of the can so the paint in the edge can go back into the can dripping by itself
@deniscurtis65593 жыл бұрын
I always use the plastic spout that snaps on the can. I still get paint in the rim, but I don't get much paint running down the side of the can. I use the brush to take out any paint in the rim and wipe off the spout before removing. Works great for me.

Im a 57 yr old woman and I have 15 cabinets plus alot of wood in between. My quote was 6K for everything. With this pandemic I dont want to pull out any money from my savings. I am going to tackle this myself. My only problem will be not moving my stove or my refrigerator to get into the corners and above, to heavy for me, finding the space to dry, and drying patience .Scared as heck, but im going to tackle it. I think it's gonna take me a month also by myself. Pray for me people. I'll need it.

How did you do
@Msjuju201313 жыл бұрын
@@hakimvlogs6579 They cam out great. They cleaned my cabinets with 409 which was great. I did have the men put another coat of cabinet paint which made it 3 coats. It turned out perfect. I paid 2,400 for my callacatta quartz countertop and 2300 for my cabinets. I could have done this myself, but it would have taken ,me 2 weeks. The sanded, primed, 3 coat paint in simply shite SW, and also painted my walls in Repost Grey SW. looks amazing all under 5k when lowes & home depot wanted 10 to 15K

Theirs a pandemic and you’re worried about kitchen cabinets, yet are not quite sure if you’ll have the expenses for. 6k is a very fair price from a professional painter this video is labeled diy as it should because never would I a painter brush and roll cabinets nor would any other professional painter, unless you’re using oil in a controlled environment with zero dust particles.

My cabinets were flat black.....nasty! I followed your advise . Couldn't get that type of paint here in New Mexico... but was able to get some other good paint ...Sherwin Williams. Some of my family saw the cabinets before and when they saw them later they thought I had paid a professional to install new cabinets! They are so nice! Thanks for all your tutorials!

Took me 3 weeks with 8 hours a day 5 days a week. I sanded, primed and painted every square inch inside and out. 4 layers of paint and 5 layers on the shelf tops. Called a painter at the end for a professional opinion and he said it was perfect and that he would of charged me 4 grand to do what I did.
@sj98515 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you should have paid 4 grand to do the work unless your 3 weeks of time is not worth 4k.

I was sent here by KZbin. Does KZbin know what I did several years ago? Yes, several years ago, I saw a bunch of shows of using Ann Sloan chalk paint, to paint almost every thing. Then I used that paint to repaint the kitchen cabinet, a wood coffee table, a one-hundred years old wood dresser. The reason I did repainting use Ann Sloan paint is it can almost bond every thing, no need to do chemical wash or standing both of which drives people away from repainting. Chalk paint is water based, no smell. I did put a coat of polyethylene ( which is a thing that might be harmful to someone)to protect the paint.

I paint the inside of the doors 1st. I also use a foam roller because it doesn't leave the "orange peel" then brush it out. I also add "prepsol" to the latex paint because it causes the paint to flow out smooth.
