The logistics of homeschooling lots of children while running a homestead isn't easy! We live a simple lifestyle, but it's also really, really busy. I needed to find a way of schooling the children that was effective, but also efficient. I resorted to merging a couple programs together and this is what I've come up with! Between our unique homeschool program and just living an educational lifestyle, the kids are thriving! #ambleside #robinsoncurriculum #largefamily #homeschooling

I am a HS librarian at a public school and I really enjoyed this video. My children are all grown up now (23-31) but if they were young again I would homeschool. Public schools are going further down hill. It is so sad. Students no longer want to read. I have tried everything. I love your passion for homeschooling and for literature. Your son's ACT score is a reflection on him but to YOU as well. Congrats on raising such a terrific family. I just recently found your channel and enjoy it so much. Looking forward to more videos!

Thank you for sharing your homestead picks. I Love all the books! I was tickled pink when I saw the Childcraft books on your shelf! We have those as well. We also use Rod and Staff for math and Teaching Textbooks for our kids too! I totally agree about the dictionary with correcting spelling mistakes. It is what my dad did with me when I was growing up and it is what we do with our kids as well. I found that if I tell the kids how to spell something they never remember but if I have them look it up, it will stick.

Hi Janice - I only recently stumbled upon your videos and am enjoying each one I have watched. I very much enjoyed this one about homeschooling. As a widowed senior I no longer have children in school, but when I hear about how the school system operates these days, if I did have children still in school I too, would be opting for home schooling! So 'good on you' 👍for making this decision and for how thoroughly you have set up a teaching system. Thank you for sharing your lives with us. You have a lovely family and homestead. 🙂 (Oh - I live on the west coast of British Columbia, Canada)

I have never had a comprehensive home schooling program explained to me. Thank you for the clarification. I personally wish I could have experienced this kind of school structure. I mainly educated myself up until 5th grade, and there were big holes in it! Your children are receiving a quality, broad, enriched education that can only be achieved by a few in today's world! But is desired by all! Thank you for your instruction! Blessings to you.

So educational for those considering home schooling, we took our children (3highscool level) out of school for a year and used government correspondence schooling and in that 12 months they all learnt to enjoy learning for themselves and I didn't have to drive them to their books. Our son did years 10, 11, and 12 math that year and when he entred the classroom at year11 ( in a remote school where the math teacher was actually working at the same level as her students as she had never taught math before) and it only took a couple of lessons and our son realised she didn't really know what she was doing and after a little conversation, with the utmost respect, our son was asked to assist her in her teaching.our son is dyslexic with numbers but has learntto overcome it by continuing checking his work. Our son's first job was as a tv presenter where he had to calculate every program, adds, news, and programs down to the 1000th of a second so there were no blank frames inbetween and he only go the job because he made a mistake in his calculations, saw it and immediately corrected it, his boss told me he could just put his head downand get the job done while, particularly the news room was in chaos just before going to air. I really believe the year out of the classroom helped each child become responsible for their own learning with the insensitive of lessons done in a morning block then the rest of the day ment on the road or free time. In retrospect wish I had home schooled them all but then having fostered 70children ove 30 years it may have been rather tricky as some of the children had significant disabilities. Well done to you and your family. Blessings from down under.

We've used A Gentle Feast for 3 years and some other CM curriculum before that and I've just been drowning in it all...though I love aspects of it like what you mentioned. I'm due with baby number 8 in December, so I thought this was the perfect year to chart our own course! We'll be using Truthquest History guides for a bit of a spine and then I'll just be planning the rest based on our interests. Thanks for this encouraging video! And you can add all the other learning that the homestead offers. Still, your kids do not have to spend eight hours and more in a schoolbuilding. Also., I think, they meet their friends, but do not have to put up with school bullies. You are doing a great Job . Congratulation on the rapid groth of your channel!! (from Shawn) I am sorry for the delayed response. I'm checking up on unanswered questions this morning. We talked about this on a recent livestream, but I don't know if you got a chance to see it. From our perspective, a "farm" refers to a commercial operation when a farmer specializes in growing a few things and sells them as a cash crop. An example would be growing hundreds of acres of corn. A "homestead" is the practice of growing a variety of things and having a small amount of livestock all for the family's consumption. Homesteading is more oriented toward self-sufficiency while farming is for profit. I hope that helps explain it. I see you have made many comments to our videos and we really appreciate you. We just love having so many viewers from different places with such diverse backgrounds. Lets all learn from each other!

@@Nogames2281 There's a difference between a "bubble" and sick twisted perversion being forced upon you. It's best the parents teach and guide their children how and when they see fit. And about what. Teaching blasphemy and perversion and labeling parents "enemies" because they want control over what is taught to their children is very damaging! Public schools now are nothing but recruiting grounds to get as many started on that broad road as possible. 🤨

Bubble is a subjective word. For instance one could say having one teacher and the same 25 same aged children in the same room in the same school five days a week for a school year is a bubble. It’s all where you’re standing and how you form your opinion.

I would never have had the courage to homeschool my children but my how much easier it would have been in many ways. Having grown up with a mother with severe mental health problems - but was quite happy even on but the days I had to stay home and mind my mother! I did a Montessori teaching course when my children were small learning their letters by feel. My middle child wasn’t interested in reading but coped and absorbed knowledge. During an eye test it was discovered that he had very little sight in one eye and other problems which meant he was dyslexic and of a type that was familial. Sure enough on testing they were all dyslexic. All did well in school with up and downs and proceeded to get degrees at university. The middle most dyslexic son is a university professor. You get huge admiration from me.

I did not home school my 4 adult children . However I did have them read and they still read . My son had difficulties with hand writing so I did writing without tears with him myself at home . My youngest 2 actually did public high school online instead of regular high school both did 4 years of high school in 3 years and graduated early . One did college along with the online high school which she did honors and advance placement classes on the high school online . She ranked 2 out of over 600 high school students in Ohio that year at that online public school . She had full scholarships but was determined to go in the Army and did she was a linquist and served time over in Afghanatain that was really hard as a mom . She now is in Medical school working on her doctors degree 2 more years and she will be a Doctor . My other daughter finished high school in 3 years and has several degrees associate degrees in the medical field as well and has been employed since she finish her schooling and does well . If I had young children today of my own I would home school them . Right now I do work with my grandchildren and would help home school them if that’s what their parents choose . I love how you made platforms work your family .

I don’t homeschool but have always been interested in it! When my daughter was in elementary school before they offered all the honors classes I would supplement her learning and then during Covid I did more because online schooling was lacking! I think you probably get a better education from homeschooling but my daughter would not so well with it he loves choir and drama club and her friends! I’m not saying homeschooled kids don’t do social activities and spend time with other children just not what my daughter would want,!

Awesome!! You know, I wouldn't typically think of Rod and Staff combining well with a Charlotte Mason curriculum, but apparently it works for your family and mine! :)

@@ozarkfamilyhomestead We use Charlotte Mason principles like narrations, living books, and all the wonderful enrichments, nature studies etc but like you, the teacher intensiveness of the more cm curriculumsc we were using was too much for us so Rod and staff took care of that for us. Best of both worlds, I say!

I absolutely LOVE your library!! We recently relocated from Washington state to Arkansas. We got rid of pretty much everything except necessities and some passed down family heirlooms (my grandmas hutch, my desk from when I was a baby, my baby rocking chair, my wooden kitchen set, hubby's tools, my gardening equipment as I homestead, the pouktry and of course my beloved books. The only thing we paid movers to move was the tools, my books and the hubby's Star Wars collection. 😂❤. I thrift store and yard sale shop so honestly it wasn't worth the cost to pay movers- I was able to sell/donate everything and well, I have furnished the new place for nearly free. Gotta love Facebook marketplace and Craigslist for that aspect!! ❤

Thanks Jessica! True book lovers will openly drool over each other's libraries!!! :) We have some friends that moved here within the past year from New Jersey and Colorado and they were both saying that, if they could do it all over again, they wouldn't bother moving all their belongings. They would've done what you did. I hope you're enjoying your new home and I'm so very glad to have you here on our family's channel! :)

Absolutely Wonderful! I'm an English teacher but have always had an interest in homeschooling. I do have a question. For writing, you mentioned that composition focuses on book narrations and creative writing. What do you do to ensure the children masters the other forms of composition ie-research, literary analysis, argumentative, expository, and functional writings? I'm sure you do but just wondering what sources you use to do this

What happens if they don't bother to read or don't like it. W If they do three hours per day, what are they doing for the rest of the time.

I'm just catching up on watching your videos, multi tasking today so I can watch a few. My son is 28,graduated 2013 from city public school and he just made it out of there! It is no longer a good setting to learn in so I feel your family will be very Blessed this way. Do your kids recess for the summer? You are the True example of a GOOD Mom 🥰

Hi Rachel! I appreciate you taking the time to leave a kind comment! I enjoy working in the kitchen while I have a KZbin video playing in the background too. I feel like I'm learning something from the video while I'm doing something in the house. We technically school year-round, but our school time is much heavier through the winter and early spring when there's less to do outside. We pretty much just stick to the basics when we're super-busy with outdoor tasks. :)

I only have one child(8) left at home. I decided to homeschool him as our older kids were finishing public school. I am blown away right now though! I’ve been leaning towards RC, but haven’t purchased yet. I am doing a “trial” with the book list and starting Saxon 5/4. I partly haven’t made the complete switch because I haven’t wanted to let go of R&S English. I have been thinking maybe just read aloud, then I heard you and am like”how is she reading my mind?!”🤣. I also have R&S math, but to use as practice and supplement. We have just finished CLE Math 2, which seems to be sliding right into Saxon 5/4 fairly smoothly.

We have used and loved RS English for years, and transition from CLE math to Saxon after middle school levels are completed. I think Plain curriculum is some of the best there is.

I love Ambleside also. I came across the website of one of the advisors that went into detail about how she used it. I’m curious, because you didn’t mention it in the video, how or what do you use to teach reading?
