When you do the final tour when it is finished, you guys should split up. Let Rebecca do the home tour and talk about her choices. Justin can tour the parts related to the homesteading part. Maybe flashback to shots of what each area was before and what it is now. Also, have more wide shots to show the entire room or area. Rebecca has done a great job thinking of what all you need to live comfortably with a big family. Love it!

I agree about STL and HH being terrific homesteading channels. But don't forget that when the Rhodes started out, they were also starting out with raw land, a few old buildings, and a very tight budget.

I remember the moment when Justin realized why it was so important to use his own trees, vs buying planks, for the deck. Because it was sentimental. And now the deck (his trees) is part of the view when looking out onto the landscape.

It always takes twice as long and costs twice as much as you think it's going to! Ya'll have had so much happen these last couple years. Grateful you're still smiling and treating each other kindly. Building a house is sooooooo stressful. Soooooo many decisions to be made. A plethora of minutia. Ya'll have done great! So excited for you!

It is great to see things coming along, it is a long and sometimes discouraging process. While I think it is so wonderful that they are always thinking of how the kids will fit into things, I hope they are able to handle it someday if they don't all want to stick around. Kids need to feel free to spread their wings and try other things as they get older, not feel they are duty-bound to stay at the homestead forever. It seems so far away when they are young, but it happens so quickly. It is never easy as a parent to have the babies leave the nest. We live with our daughter now - we are getting older and she wants us to be able to stay in the house and help us as we age, which is so great. I am a fan of intergenerational living, it's just not everyone's choice. Will say, we are putting in railings where none were before because of aging, so never say never on that big, wide staircase in the front of the house.

Your house is BEA-UTIFUL!!! I can't wait for you to make it a home. Your hard work has paid off. I'm so happy for you. When I saw the garage, it reminded me of a remodel I did for a customer. She wanted her garage to look like a living room room. I painted and installed wainscoting. I added framed pictures and a chandelier. Whenever the door is open it looks as if you were looking into her living room. She loved it and the neighbors were confused that she would park her car in the living room. Another happy customer! Enjoy your new home!!

Haint blue was used by enslaved Africans in America to ward off evil spirits, "haints", from their spiritual traditions... and is yet another thing white colonists stole from them without a second thought or actually using it in the way it was meant to be used. Instead white people are like "isn't that charming. I think I'll do it too". 🙄

Knowing your kids & having both access's i would have enclosed that porch space for a second mudroom and made a bigger deck in front by removing a couple of plant beds. You could cover the porch with a double layer pergola. Top layer polycarbonate and underneath a trellis for plants would keep you dry provide light and give you a more outdoor porch experience with far less cost than the roof was for your existing porch.

With everything so white, and nothing to break up the lines, it’s hard to get a sense of scale and design inside the house, but you definitely have space! I believe decks are an essential part of extending the living space of a home. I have often thought a deck of the master bedroom is the perfect getaway for the adults. Have that first cup of coffee in the mornings, and just survey the land. You have such a view off of the master bedroom! Every time I see the house from a distance….my eye goes to the huge steps leading to the huge deck, with the huge porch roof, and that to me says “front door” Your front door is lost in the design. Although the little alcove is perfect for what you had in mind, keeping you dry as you knock on the door, or fiddle with keys to unlock the door, it just doesn’t have the “I’m here!” Front door look. A small gabled porch design would help bring attention to the front door, and of course a color to the door would also help. But yeah, it was my only observation of the overall design of the house. Really can’t wait to see all the flooring done, cabinets installed, and eventually see the furniture get out into place. After all the moving you have done this past year, having a forever home will feel nice for a change. I do hope it fulfills all your dreams!

@@chronicallyoverit74 We lived next to two sisters who were spinster school teachers. Every time their front porch was repainted they insisted for the light blue color on the ceiling. And they NEVER had wasps nests, bird nests nor any other insect built in under the ceiling. And we also adapted the idea and never had any problem. Since the insects and birds look in the wavelength and the color matches with the sky it makes scientific sense. Hope this helps explain.

I am so proud for you guys. You are some of the hardest working family that I have ever come across. I love seeing you all succeed. Shows us all how working hard and working with your family really can be a success. God Bless you all

I have one big question about your "new" house-----will there be shoe storage by the door??? I have watched y'all for a couple of years and every time the children get ready to go outside there is a big hunt for shoes!! God bless y'all and keep growing.

Do like everybody else does. . .once you have your CO or whatever they do in your srea, add in all those improvements that you feel might be issues for the building inspectors but totally acceptable to you.

@laurakneeland4462 Your being kind. Did anyone say, "Interrupting pest" like from the Richard Scary books. How condescending Justin, your acting. It's not all about you. No coveting in the husband realm here... Good job Justin...
