Hi, I just found your channel (more like the other way round) and first I want to thank you. I've heard of that guy and people defending him. This is the first time I saw him "working". He shows absolutely no sense of proper surrounding, timing, horse behaviour, facial expressions, _anything_ . When it came to the hobbling (? my English isn't the best), wich I personally don't like, and let the horse walk with this loose chain around its foot, my jaw dropped. This is so dangerous. And him lying on the horse and harassing it... Well. It's sunday morning and I literally& really was crying loud and in anger. Couldn't stop. How can anybody be so self- righteous, ignorant and cruel! Plus letting the dog be around. Just NO. This filly wasn't "testing him", she's been constantly trying to keep her balance; mentally and physically. In the end, she looked totally and profoundly broken. Such a shame. Thank you for your words and reactions to it, you're so right in (on?) everything.

Have had horses my whole life. You are absolutely correct, this is NOT an aggressive horse. Horses are emotional and very sensitive creatures (they are basically empathic, they can read a person's emotions and where they're directed). Any energy you put into the horse comes back at you tenfold. Dude was chasing the horse down, no releases, no structure, just bullying... Literally how you traumatize a horse permanently, he is lucky she was a nice and submissive horse. I'm not even religious but I think I'll find myself praying for his kids and horses after seeing that display. Just watched his short of the horse coming to his ranch, 10 months old, just transferred and he is in the pen filming and pressuring her. Looks like a bad case of weanling/separation/moving angst that was never properly addressed and mishandled. These cases are harder to work with, especially if they are released into a herd to fend for themselves. She did kick at him in the field, but it was a warning display of 'give me space' which is common in these cases but usually only occur when there is external pressure from other members of the herd -> get stressed -> want space or dominance. She is like 2.5 yrs old at the time of filming and sensitive horses like that are about the worst to use domination tactics on... From what I saw, she has a bad herd dynamic and feels the need to try and dominate out in the pasture with the herd. Pretty typical for a bad wean -> defending for herself. BIG hint for anyone online to be skeptical of - if a horse has a halter on its head and is standing well next to a human, it is not an aggressive horse. (Some special exceptions exist, but like Tay was saying in the video, there are ways to correct behavior and get the horse to understand... Cuz if the horse doesn't truly understand and accept, it can be a ticking time bomb for an explosion when stressed.) If there is an ACTUALLY insane horse attacking everyone in sight, as a last resort to try and tame it before putting it down.... Sure throw it on the ground and have the whole village lay on it.... Aside from that, leave it in the past.

Sigh... Homestead Horsemanship. You know, I have seen this video on my KZbin feed for weeks and had wary feelings about it from the thumbnail itself and the fact that Homestead Horsemanship has a history of being irresponsible, ignorant, and dangerous to his horses. Raleigh Link talked about this guy a few times before especially in a response video to a time when he mishandled a horse who had colic (this mini horse died from his colic). It is nice to know that not only has he not learned anything, he is actually getting worse! The fact that he handled Karen the way he did was disgusting and I'm horrified that he even had the nerves to post this online. If you look in the comments as well, you will see people making excuses on why he "had" to give Karen a lesson so that she wouldn't be dangerous. Unbelievable. Oh and recently, Raleigh mentioned this guy again during a video where she talked about influencer stallion owners who are irresponsibly breeding their stallions.

Uhmm, I am a Christian and I believe in prayer, but he is manipulating spiritual principles to justify bad behaviour towards the horse. This horse is maybe a young and spicy. That is about it… That horse was scared, confused and sensed his hostility. Maybe, if the horse is not a goodness of fit or too much to deal with, he should try finding a new owner who understands horse behaviour. The cruelty was unbelievable… This man is so cruel and irritating.

As a horse owner, I would NEVER do this to any horse. You're correct in saying there's humane techniques to use on an aggressive horse to address bad habits. 💯 This is NOT a humane technique!SMH 😡

He “laid down” a week old colt for his “bad behavior.” Horses name is prince. JR comes off like he knows everything. He cannot be questioned or challenged by humans or animal. The dominion thing gets on my nerves. Imo it means dominate to him.

I work with a horse named Maka she has so much personality but she doesn't know how big she is. Maka is a Belgian AQHA cross, her head is as big as my torso and when I take of her bridle she sometimes tries to itch her face on me and picks me up off the ground. So instead of her picking me up I brush her face while taking her bridle off so much safer. Also she isn't allowed to be tied to hitching rails cuz she leans on them and has broken them so we tie her to trees now. She is such a silly girl I love her. I have more stories about her so I'm just gonna type them if you wanna read them. I was riding her through a meadow and she was floppy letting her ears flop all around. After walking through the meadow I walked her onto a helicopter pad and she got scared of her feet hitting the concrete. It was so funny but I pet her for being good. Oh I have more she wasn't trained to go through water so I would get off of her and walk her through shallow streams and rivers but one time it was too deep of a river for me to walk through so we put a horse in front of her that she liked and one behind her. At first she hesitated but With a big kick before the river she went through it and she did so good I pet her got off gave her treats and then we kept going and after that she was way more confident going through water. Later I taught her how to jump just little things and step over logs she is a sweet big girl. I love my Maka moose but my family wont buy her because she isn't purebred so I've been saving up my own money to buy her. As long as I buy her she can stay on our farm and my family will pay to take care of her but my family wont buy her. Hopefully soon I'll be her new owner.

They definitely do things differently. I don’t always agree with their methods like using spurs. I rode for years and never had spurs. They are rough in their training. I do not understand why he’s doing this. What’s the purpose? There isn’t one.

I stopped following them 0:44 ages ago when their mini horse died of colic and they never called the vet because they ' know ' what to do! Which was nothing!

Yeah I saw that, the pony was cast, and he aggressively shoved it over with his booted foot, then he said he knew what to do for colic. And only consulted with the vet over the phone when his home remedies didn't work.

I unsubscribed after Oliver was used for breeding and he’s not a good example of a breeding stallion. He’s confirmation isn’t great, he’s a rescue Clyde with issue , he’s admitted that himself in video’s. Just because a horse is registered and not gelded doesn’t mean it’s breeding quality . In my opinion this is irresponsible back yard breeder with low quality horses .

I used to follow this family for a long time. I found the longer I watched them I found them to be wanting. I did not like this video at all it looked insensitive and arrogant. I also find that in a round about way they are asking for money to support them playing on them being christians. They are not shy in this regard.

Hey I’m the guy you were critiquing. I appreciate how you expressed and supported your opinions. There were a few things I agreed with mainly I should never have named her Karen. What you said about your attitude based on names is correct. I did find it disingenuous that you didn’t show the clips of her approaching humans on her own in the pasture and spinning and kicking. I also think you tried to anthropomorphise a few things to make a more confrontational video. Praying on human tribalism to increase the quality of a video. Negativity sells. The mare never did anything aggressive when caught only loose and free in pasture. The result was she never did anything aggressive in the pasture again after this and also became easy to catch in the pasture. You edited the pasture scenes out so I know you know what I’m talking about. All in all though you did a much more knowledge based video review than Raleigh link. You don’t have to agree with every methods out there but your horse you were referencing was striking out of fear. This horse was not fearful she was treating humans in the pasture as other horses and was being dominat. That’s the difference. The results were very good and we moved on with the usual methods. Try becoming a more successful channel through your own talents rather than preying on others content for your gain.

Don't be surprised if he lied to you because that man has a track record of lying to people whenever they critique him in the comments of his videos. He also does that thing Tara does as well where he will delete comments or argue with people if they critique him in a way he doesn't like. I can't find the video but when someone asked Shae in the comment section if she knew Homestead Horsemanship months ago, she straight up said no in response. With how she hates animal abuse esp in the horse world to the point where she will take a horse she sold back to her farm if she has to, I believe her.

@@barbadosantigua1 Free Spirit Equestrian has a few social media accounts that are open to messages especially on Facebook. I would recommend that people be very careful doing this however and do it as calmly as possible because sending her messages the wrong way can easily open her up to harassment as a woman because online, things can become uncontrollable quick (esp an equestrian woman because oh gods a lot of people are not normal to women online).

UPDATE: I looked in the comments of the linked video and a few others (regrettably) just in case I was wrong and I could not find the comment and his reply about him being Free Spirit Equestrian's friend. The video is 4 months old so I think what happened probably, is that: 1. He got cold feet and deleted the comment and reply out of cowardice 2. Free Spirit Equestrian cut him off for animal abuse if they were friends (I don't believe this in the first place bc this man is a liar) because this is not something she would ever believe in especially as someone who had to train horses who were abused by people like him. Belle, one of her horses has signs of being abused by a previous owner and is one of the horses Shae has to keep forever due to equine shivers and the mental scars she has from being mistreated in a way where she has to be a pasture horse for the rest of her life due to said issues. or 3. Homestead Horsemanship got caught him lying about his friendship to Free Spirit Equestrian when other people drilled him about it and he deleted the comment + reply to cover his tracks. Homestead Horsemanship lies a lot and there are instances where I saw him straight up lying when replying to people.

Thank you. I called him out for his sloppy training when he was working his Clydesdale stallion in this same round pen. There were even mares present to distract the stallion from the lessons, but he couldn't give a crap. He was looping the lunge line around his wrist and dropped it on the ground and even got his foot caught up in the loop.😢 Edit to add: He said that he reviewed his session and found nothing wrong with it, and he knew what he was doing. 😮😢
