Every moment of this video hit all the marks for me. I laughed out loud at the chicken photo bombing you and your studiously ignoring him. I worried about your lifting those heavy turnips…even with help. I loved seeing your beautiful baby bump. Your kids are gorgeous, just like mom and dad. It’s 10:30 pm and for some reason, I am craving big baked pretzels! I hope you’re feeling better, Becky.

Those turnip and radish leaves can be used for making soup, stir fry and kimchi. Also, there are ways to blanket the outside of greenhouse (with or without electric control for lifting), so over winter crops can grow happily even when it’s-20 Celsius outside.

@@jordie6688 yes, turnip greens are super delicious from October to March/April as its sugar content are so much higher so they can keep growing during winter. Same applies to almost all winter vegetables including all oriental greens, land cress, cabbage, kale etc.

I learned from the Asians that I can toss lettuce into a stir-fry near the end of the cooking time. Their culture wants 'greens' in just about any type of cooked meals. My Taiwanese friend was visiting us in Scotland and also wanted to include a worm she found in my stalks of celery. I drew the line on that one. 😂

I just discovered your channel and subscribed. It really shows what is possible in homesteading and gardening which is very inspiring for me, although I could never get as much done as you. In a q&a you mentioned anxiety and as someone who is having a hard time with this myself sometimes, I just wanted to warmly recommend checking out the Buteyko breathing method. Maybe you notice altered breathing (perhaps more often, perhaps through your mouth instead of your nose), which has become a very frequent observation in our fast-paced lives. There is a fascinating two-way-relationship between chronic over-breathing and many conditions, including asthma, snoring/ sleep apnea and anxiety. Books like "The Oxygen Advantage" by Patrick McKeown offer a very hands-on overview of the science behind why breathing more doesn't necessarily mean we are less out of breath, with exercises that are simple and I would say life-changing. Lots of love from a young doc and to a splendid new year!

I had no time to do a full harvest that week (I was sick (covid) and trying to finish up Christmas orders-I sell on Etsy), so I just harvested enough for the week, and the wind coupled with the extreme all day cold (-2F) just decimated my garden. Hundreds of dollars of vegetables were just wiped out. The saddest one was a whole bed of leeks. I've NEVER lost a leek to freezing before.
