UNDER ATTACK While Swimming Our Clydesdale Horse!

Hey friends. It has been CRAZY hot here the last couple of weeks and on top of the heat the horse flies have just been awful! We do make sure to keep the horses sprayed but honestly bug spray doesn’t do much for these massive bugs! The horse flies are by far the worse at the river though. Once up at the barn they aren’t quite so bad. But they do make it a little difficult for Oliver and us to fully enjoy our swim! Still, we are very thankful we have the river that we can take our horses down for a swim when needed! Such a blessing! Hope you enjoy and have a wonderful day!

Horse flies are the worst, I lived by a Auction barn years ago and those flies would come over into my house and chase me and bite.glad y'all get to cool off some in the river!

Yes! That's what I told my husband, that Oliver was purring! I asked him if he'd ever heard a horse purr, as his Dad used to raise quarter horses. Nope. That was a first for him! That water must have been so enjoyable!

This Magnificent Oliver is performing the same glottic maneuver that a couple of my Lab Retrievers did quite noticeably while swimming. This respiratory grunt expels water from their throats and lungs and is a very innate response to protect their airway. Notice that the deeper he goes, or stays in the water, the more noticeable and stronger he grunts.. He’s loving you, the swim and trusts you completely. (((((Oliver))))) Such a big beautiful boy! 🥰 At the age of 18, I was a trail guide on a horse ranch and I used to take our horses into a pool of water in a stream, mid-way through out trail ride. The people loved it because it wasn't too deep and the water only came up to the bottom edge of the horses' saddles. All the riders had to do was to lift their legs up above the water and each one did it perfectly (I had explained it to them beforehand). It was super fun and of course the horses loved it too!
