@@nogames8982 Horses need shoes in some places. In the Rocky Mountains, for instance, if you are riding a lot, they need shoes to protect their feet from too much wear, which can make them foot sore. Imaging tearing your fingernail below the nail bed. That's similar to a horse having their feet worn down too much. Now when I tear my fingernail below my nail bed, I can bandage it up and quit using it for a while. A horse cannot do that. They are a prey animal so even sleep standing up in the wild. But in the winter time I would take mine off, and just trim them every 6-8 weeks. Then in the spring, if I was going to be riding one or more of them a lot, I would put shoes on those horses and just trim the others.

I think the farrier who put the shoes on also raised his eyebrows, but the owner is responsible. How bad this is for the joints of such a young horse, let alone her feet. Glad you removed the shoes.
@alycewich44726 ай бұрын
JR mentioned the breeder is the one who told him how tall her sire and dam were, so my guess is there are farriers who specialize in working with the draft horse breeds. This was a big fancy sale of Clydesdale horses only. It might be the norm with the breed when they are selling as show stock, but I think you're right about the stress on the foals/young stock's joints and legs when dealing with this type of shoe at such an early age. But maybe they only do it during show season and leave them barefoot the rest of the year.

JR will only put some on if he thinks she will need them, just as he does with the rest of the horses. And if he does, I cannot imagine him using that type of shoe on her. It may make their stride prettier in the show ring, by pulling a wagon alongside Oliver, she has no need for that.

He has one Clydesdale named Big Jake who is 26 years old 20 hands high and tops off 2,350 pounds. He is massive in size. Every morning when I drive down the road to the office past him, he runs over to the fence near where I park my pickup regardless of where he is in the pasture.. He expects his daily treat of a few sugar cubes, or carrots or apples or water Mellon. If I forget the treats, he pouts. I have spoiled him. He is also very protective of the other Clydesdales. Jake loves to get baths and be brushed. I suspect this girl will grow to about 1600-1700 pounds and about 16 hands high. She seems well natured and very happy. Y'all are lucky you got her.

Great job everyone, what a gorgeous filly, I think she looks so much happier now she’s with you❤can’t believe someone would put those ghastly shoes on her. She’s definitely landed softly with you . 💗💗🥰🇦🇺
