Just got these speakers and hooked them up to my Yamaha RX-496 receiver. Love the warm sound listening to Sade's "Greatest Hits" and Vince Guaraldi's "A Charlie Brown Christmas." For my listening needs, a center speaker isn't necessary. In fact, I've grown out of the bass reflex type speakers I used to enjoy as a younger person.

Good point on the rubber feet. What is odd is the A4.2 atmos modules come with little gel feet for when they sit on top of tur speaker. Now I you mention it, would have been good if they just threw those in too for the bookshelves. Nice review by the way.

I bought two pairs of B6.2 s on Black Frtiday 2018 for $75.00 each (Crutchfield and Audio Advisor). I owned the Pioneers but gave them to a relative because they were DULL. You call this WARM. With the ELACs I cured that problem with an old BSR Equalizer. Now they sound close to a Klipsch but not as bright. Ready to buy 4 more this Black Friday. I actually use these on a bookshelf so the front port is important. Looking forward to your test of the New Reference 6.2.

Thanks! They have a new pair out? I didn't realize that!

Great review as always. I am definitely going to buy these for a 5.1 set up. Due size restrictions in my home theater cabinet I am thinking about pairing these with a Klipsch R-52C center channel speaker vs the Elac debut center channel (which is too big for my cabinet). Do you think I will be compromising performance by pairing two these two brands together? I currently have a 12 year old Energy speaker setup with a 12" Velodyne sub-woofer. Sub-woofer will probably stay as I love the bass sound.
@HomeTheaterHobbyist6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, sorry I missed this earlier. I would go with the Elac center channel because the Klipsch will sound different. If your heart is set on the Klipsch then you'll have to go into your receiver and change the equalization settings for the Klipsch so the sound better matches. Keep the sub I've heard there great! Let me know what you decide to do, I'm interested to hear.
@mikecorcoran2646 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. Only reason I am going with Klipsch is for size reasons in home theater cabinet. Regarding equalization settings, I have never done that before. Do you have a video on how to do that and are their target settings I should be shooting for in the equalization process to get the best results?
@HomeTheaterHobbyist6 жыл бұрын
I don't have a video discussing eq for tonal shifts between speakers but let me try some things on my receiver. If it works I'll put out a video. If doesn't then no video. Either way I'll respond to this thread and let you know the results.
@mikecorcoran2646 жыл бұрын
Before doing that I was thinking my Yamaha receiver has YPAO optimization calibration with microphone. Do u think that will optimize the equalization settings? @@HomeTheaterHobbyist

I think the auto calibration typically sets the eq to "flat". So you'll still have to go in and adjust the eq.

I purchased these speakers about a month ago, and have them setup in a 20X20 garage. To play them without a subwoofer is terrible. I can switch back and forth between the ELAC and the ELAC with a sub. A subwoofer is a must.

I really like these B6.2 bookshelf speakers. I found that they will scale to the quality of your amplifier. They didn't sound so good using my OSD Nero XD integrated stereo amplifier. I used them on my Onkyo TX-NR737 and it was a huge immediate improvement. They also sound great connected to my PS Audio Sprout100. I'm using speaker isolation pads underneath mine, so I don't need rubber feet.

Nope. But I did buy the Uni-Fi UC5 Center channel for my basement theater room. These B6.2s are in my upstairs living room on my 2 channel PS Audio Sprout100. I plan on upgrading my Infinity Primus P363 Towers to the Uni-Fi UF5 or something more expensive in a few years. The Uni-Fi Center actually sounds better with the Infinity towers than the Infinity Primus PC251 center.

For Elac's Debut 2.0 B6.2 would you recommend Onkyo A-9010 or Onkyo A-9050?

I just took a look at the specs and it appears the 9050 has a bit more power 75watts vs 44 watts per channel on the 9010. So I'd choose the 9050 but I haven't heard either so I can't say if they would be sound differences.

It would be helpful if you did some comparisons with other bookshelf speakers of the same driver size. (you did mention Klipsch RP 150). My 6" two way JBL bookshelf speakers (Northridge series) are also front ported with large cabinets and have a surprising amount of bass. My Polk Audio RTI A3s have even more, punchier bass and are solid down to 50 hertz. The A3s are a little brighter than the JBLs and do sound much, much better overall. The Elac speakers get great press, but just about all reviews do little if any side by side comparisons.
