Homewood Stoves

Күн бұрын

Homewood Stoves is a small family business, and we craft old-fashioned, cast iron wood cookers in New Zealand: www.homewoodstoves.co.nz to the highest standard of quality.
If you live outside of New Zealand, but are in love with our woodstoves, don't despair! www.homewoodstoves.co.nz/reso...
This demonstration and promotional clip from Homewood Stoves Ltd shows how to cook with fire on our latest and smallest stove: the Homewood Companion. The Companion is a single oven cast-iron cooking; lovingly handcrafted to the highest standard. See more here: www.homewoodstoves.co.nz/stov...
The song is Neil Young's "Harvest Moon", covered live and in a single take [at the end of a long day of filming!] by Penelope (Zak's mother).

This is my favorite video when I’m feeling lonely and all alone. My Mom and Dad have passed on and it’s just me left behind as an only child. My Mother was born and raised in Alaska and she grew up without any electricity or running water and they grew everything in the garden and hunted and fished for their meat. My Mom used a wood burning stove with her 14 brothers and sisters for many things. Heating, cooking, being the primary of course. I wish I could spend a couple of days in these ladies company, learning my way around the different foods and recipes that I saw in the video. I am mesmerized with the song being sung and the lovely guitar playing. Like Heaven on earth.

Technology isn't so bad we have the capability to solve and make things better. If it wasn't for technology I wouldn't be educated in different diseases and misunderstandings, I learned how to make my own clothes, what ingredients to look for in skincare, and so much more. You can learn so much more things too. It's not all bad. If you really want to be closer to living something similar to this, but live in an apartment you have enough space to grow some of your own herbs, instead of buying an expensive washing and drying machine or saving up some change to go to the laundry mat just get a galvanized washboard and a drying rack from amazon. I'm a new mom and I wash all my clothes this way. No machine required. I live in a house so I'm lucky to be able to grow my own fruits and vegetables. Best part about manually washing my own clothes I use that same water to water all my fruits, vegetables, and native plants around my house. So nothing gets wasted. There are many other things you can do too. You don't need to have a house to live close to this. The beauty about technology is that once you see it you can learn and begin your journey into actually doing it. Not just be wishing about it.

It’s a good feeling to know you’re doing something the same way people in a different era did. I’m an artist and my favorite media is oil paints. It’s intriguing to entertain the thought that I’m using painting techniques similar to those used by Van Gough, Michelangelo, and other famous painters centuries ago. I find solace in the fact that I’m smelling that same warm, rich oil paint aroma that they did. Modern acrylic paints to me are too cold, runny, dry too fast and they smell like pure chemicals. They don’t compare to the comforting richness of oils. It’s like reading an old book; taking in the smell of the old yellowed paper and ink, hearing the spine crackling as you open it, reading it’s time-honored story. It’s an experience that is appealing to all the senses.

I grew up with one of these stoves. You talking about serving many purposes this is it. Best cooking, it will warm your house so well it will run you out if you're not careful. My mom use to heat water up on ours and I would take a bath near the stove in one of those old tin tubs. They had different sizes & she had a bread warmer to which was up on top where you kept your plates to keep them warm. People need to go back to those stoves I would like to see how the Energy companies would take that.😁😄😆.Oh and the ovens on those stoves baked the best pies, breads, cobblers & cakes. We had all cast iron cookware. Hazel Stoves was the name of the company that made that brand.

Between the ages of 3-7 my family cooked on a wood stove and we loved every minute of it. We lived in Brookings, Oregon, close to the beach, and we loved that state too! Great Memories!

I just wanted to say that this video reminds me of my grandma. She had a gas stove but did ninety percent of her cooking on a wood stove and 100% of it during winter months! Me and my mom have wood burning heaters in our homes for winter, but we cook on them too! Ours don’t have an oven but we cook meals on them in winter but I want a full stove like this one! This video reminded me of simpler, happier times. Both sets of my grandparents are gone now but I’m reminded of them every time I use my wood stove. Thanks for the memories!

I can’t tell you how these two videos touch my heart. The simple joy of living has gotten lost to most of us. Watching your family live in the beauty and peace of family and farm makes me yearn for a return to the rewarding life our generation has lost. When the first video came out, I tried to find a distributor for Homewood stoves, or even to have it shipped straight from Australia to our address. Hopefully someday Homewood will be available in the US. Thanks for the joy of an uplifting video and for the awesome music.

I totally agree with what Pamela said. I can't say it any better. But I want to add something. Many years ago I catered for a rock and roll concert in California which featured Neil Young and also the Eagles. I cooked most of that meal at my home on a wood burning stove. I was a college kid, but I had a large garden and a Chinese Catering Business. I was on stage behind the curtains when Neil Young sang that song for the first time. It was pure magic. You could hear a pin drop. My wife and I were crying. The lady singing this song understands this song from the heart and somehow sings it better than Neil Young did that night. It was just beautiful. She took me back forty years. I am crying again. I am a manly man, and don't cry. This may be the most beautiful and touching KZbin video I have ever seen! You nailed IT. You are not selling wood stoves, but family, and family virtue, and a lifestyle -- actually deep and abiding love. Seeing all three generations of your beautiful family sit down to this wonderful meal really touched me. I can remember a year we only spent $40.00 on food for the whole year, and that included the catering business. There is no feeling on earth like feeding a bunch of people you love a gourmet meal they are going to remember for the rest of their lives from food you raised on your own land, and cooked on a wood burning stove with wood you cut and seasoned yourself. Cooking is a means to an end, not an end in itself. The essence of all good cooking is love. I cannot remember the dishes I cooked for that concert. But I can remember all the love I put into it. After the concert was over, the Eagles were talking as they packed up. "We really clicked tonight. Why? What happened?" Then they looked at me. "It was the food." They felt the love.

@@homewoodstoves I should thank you for helping me remember and relive that wonderful memory. My daughter was not quite 2 years old. The day before the concert, I had her safely in a playpen in my big farm kitchen while I cooked. She had an old raggedy Ann doll. It was raining and foggy outside. We were snug and warm thanks to the stove. She needed to be tickled every ten minutes or so. I was not rushed. The food turned out fantastic. My daughter danced at the concert and loved the music. She gave Neil Young a "high five". You did a beautiful thing with your video.

Such a lovely family gathering.I can get the rich fragrance of your freshly baked bread, served with glistening black berry ? jam, fresh orange juice squeezed by hand. Nice white plates generously heaped with sausages and bacon', all done on this beautiful heirloom treasure, a wood burning home stove! All these touches harking back to a forgotten era conveys deep contentment. So nice to know that some things are still made the old fashioned way and therefore all the more heavenly. It was a pleasure meeting Janie , Zak, Grace, Zelda, Vera ,and Penelope. The song sung by her was the perfect choice for this family breakfast. Thank you.

I miss these times. I grew up cooking that way for my mom while she worked 😌 good old days, I grew up feeding the farm animals, cooking in the kitchen at 12 years old we had stove like that. And we had fire place . All the farm animals chickens, rooster 🐓 the rooster would chase u. The pigs 🐖, horse. I remember making crackling bread 🍞. And yes in those days we had a outhouse to go to the bathroom. Ha.ha. I remembered you would have to run across the yard field to it because the rooster 🐓 would chase u. But they were fun days . I am 63 this year in September and I am glad I grew up on a farm , and yes we planted and gathered our on crops, just good old days . But they were good old days , I have great memories to tell my children and grandchildren. .......... if I was able I would do it today. The new generation today depends on stores . But we grew all of our food. Off of the land . Great things to teach your kids how to plant and eat your crops and food you planted , I put up food since I was 12 , canning food for the cupboard cabinets and two freezers ..... oh and I still remember the good jelly homemade 😋 I made , man nothing beats home made jelly. We would go pick blackberries. Bring the back to the house for mom to cook a black berry pie. Yum mom made the best blackberry 🥧.... she drain the seeds out . I can taste her blackberry pie now. ..... I loved cooking fried apple pies . Fresh from the dried apples we had dried of the apples we gathered and dried. It made me the strong woman I am.today . I have went through a lot in the last 5 years , strength, and God got me through it. Looking back on all I had done at such a young age and through my life , help me get through my last 5 years . ... God bless this family , that they never take anything for granted 🙏.

We have a original white cast iron stove at ou chalet. It’s pretty the same size. You also have a drawer on the right upper side where you ca poor water and it keep it warm. The chalet was build by my mother-in-law grand-grand- uncle. Our chalet week-end brunch looks pretty like this where the 3rd, the 4th and the 5th generations are all there eating next to the stove. We have a modern stove also in the chalet, the cast iron one is always the heart of the house. Now with the 4th generation, croissant are sitting next to dumplings. No matter your origin, all the family appreciate those precious moment together .
