The -003 and A02 don't compare to the quality of the discontinued AO1 that's getting harder to find, but for an OEM filter it's sufficient. However, unless you're able to get a bulk lot where you can get them for under $7 each, there's better options out there for less.
@faxmen09

Yes when it comes to cost and what known about A02 efficiency there are many better options. The 01 even more rare now than the topic 003. Many Honda dealers want a ridiculous mark up on Honda OEM filters. Even above the ~$8.60 list price.

Felt end caps.... cheap filters. ... Quite frankly, I have never heard of anyone ruin their engine due to filter failure. I have done a lot of wrenching on the side.. it's not the filter. Usually those that have engine issues, never change their oil! Change your oil every 5,000 or less and no problems! Honda's regularly last 300k- 400k or more miles with no issues if maintained. I used Fram orange can filters all the time in the 1980's and 1990's. Cars all ran flawlessly well past 100K. People make too big a deal out of this. I'd rather buy a used vehicle off someone that regularly changed their oil every 5K than someone who bought a "Royal Purple $15 filter and Purple oil but only changed it every 10K because "it was expensive".... No thanks!

Interesting... Those end caps being felt or whatever seems cheapo but the silicone anti drain back valve is of good quality. Not sure I'd go with OEM Honda this time. The filter just seems a bit low quality mostly because no metal end caps. Nice thick can good filter media so it seems. But those two particles one long price under the microscope showed filter attached to it... Maybe falling apart due to low quality. Just a couple things stood out I'd go with Fram ULTRA SYNTHETIC. Good review. Nice to see a used filter as compared to itself in brand new condition. Pretty cool 👍

The made in Japan 003 Honda oil is not the OEM oil filter most commonly sold in the US by dealers. In fact, they are rather difficult to find now. The Fram made A02 is much more common, found at most dealers. 003 looks fine, but as it's an OEM filter, you're not going to find any published efficiency info. If it's like the A02 which was ISO tested, it's not very efficient. Thanks for the video.

Our newly-aquired Acura MDX takes the 15400 -***-*** oil filter, which is SCARY-small, and requires a leap of faith in order to install on the 300-HP, V-6 engine. It's MUCH smaller than the filter for the 95 MERC's V-8 engine. Whip City Wrencher's thorough inspection shows NO Micron Rating, which is a "NO-GO" for me. Fiber End Caps !?? No problem. All that fuss is exaggerated, in my view. The Gasket design is odd -- but less likely to "stick" on the engine. I prefer the common style that's found on most other filters. Cannister is thicker than most, but no "Burst Pressure" is given. Metal core with well-spaced holes for balanced internal pressure is good. Old-style By-Pass Valve adds to the cost of manufacture. Been running the Bosch Premium oil filter in the famous 95 MERC for about 12 years, with excellent results and no problems -- so I installed a Bosch Premium # 3323 on the Acura. The 15400-***-*** may be a very good filter, but with no Micron Rating info available, it ain't going on my vehicle. Hats off to Whip City Wrencher for bringing us the "inside" info on these oil filters -- especially his exclusive "Microscopic View" -- Those other dudes just can't cut it. www.mercuryforum.com/forum/grand-marquis-14/1995-grand-marquis-restoration-8937/

The Honda 1.5 turbo is very hard on oil. The biggest problem is fuel leaking past the piston rings and diluting the oil. The first time I changed the oil in my Accord (same engine) I drained a quart more than the published oil capacity, and that was with an OCI just under 5,000 miles. I wouldn't recommend going over 5,000 miles OCI with this engine.

This one is made by Mahle (15400-RTA-003, made in Japan) not Fram (15400-PLM-A02, made in USA or Canada). It meets the specs, comes from a reputable manufacturer (Mahle) and is fitted to most brand new Japanese-made Honda cars on the production line -- there is no reason to hesitate in using it. 🙂
