Hello Bushougoma, I intently watched your video and then went and looked at the car, I got lucky with the cruise control as the plastic cable cam was not broken, then I remembered that you mentioned the vacuum line so I traced it and found that it was disconnected. I plugged it in and the cruise works perfectly, as a bonus the car idles better because the leak was fixed and believe it or not the climate control system started working correctly. I had been having to run the AC when I used the heater to keep the windows from fogging up (hardly makes sense, but it worked). That little vacuum leak was causing multiple problems. This one video helped me fix my problems, thanks a million for the information. You should start plugging some products and get some sponsors, you really do that good of a job. Keep the videos coming brother.

Thanks by the tips. My honda accord 95 cruise stops to work. Button control green light up but when try to activate it on steering wheel buttons it does not work. Would it be an electric issue?

I have a 2005 Honda Element and unlike yours, the CC cable-cam mechanism is on the same hub as the main throttle cable-cam (same for all K-series Accords) but it's *still* made of plastic and mine broke awhile ago in a way similar to yours at 9:02. The cable does hold the CC "pull" but is not secure and has already popped off once. Yeah, a whole new TB is not appropriate but after 16 years of use, the CC cable-cam in most other K-series Honda TB's in the scrap yards by now are at risk of breaking soon if not already broken. I cleaned the attachment points on the cam then set the cable end in some Hondabond, leaving it overnight. Hope this works....

I like your rtv “repair” non working cruise and saw broken barrel holder when putting back together after replacing starter on my 2006 element, ya, that was a lot of fun. Two small strips of gorilla tape, working for now, might try your silicone suggestion next time. It’s elemental

Excellent video. The cable drum on my '96 Accord is also broken similar to yours. Does this cruise control output linkage fulfil any other critical purpose besides initiating cruise control? The reason for asking is because I wanted to know if I would still be able to drive the car with this cable inactive while I hunt down another cable drum. Thank you
@Bushougoma4 жыл бұрын
It's solely for maintaining tension on the cruise cable. I'd disconnect the electrical connector from the cruise vacuum valve to make sure no one activates it by accident until it can be fixed.

Oh and I almost forgot check to make sure the plastic button that presses clutch pedal position switch hasn't broken and fallen off. If it has the switch won't be actuated and cruise won't work. The button is an inexpensive part and can be found at the dealer.

Bushougoma yup i checked and sure enough it was broken off.
@Bushougoma11 жыл бұрын
The 01 Civic uses an actuator motor and not a vacuum actuator like the Accord in the video. I'd start simple and check the cruise control fuse first and make sure the module under the dash is getting power. If it is then I'd check the clutch pedal position switch to make sure it works and the brake light switch. If either isn't functioning cruise won't actuate. Check the cruise switches on the steering wheel back probe the switch inputs on the module.

On mine the cruise only works when the headlights are on. If you try to engage with the lights off the hard cruise switch light comes on solid but when you hit RESUME the engage light just flashes on momentarily and nothing happens. Headlights on it works like normal. Drivers side headlight is acting up a little, I am using HID and it is eating ballasts on that side (probably due to a loose ground) too so I think that is a clue. I think I have a loose ground. Is there one that is shared between the the cruise module and drivers headlight? Where would that be? I have a 2004 accord.

Throttle valve cable for the transmission 3:06 if i do cruise control delete, should i remove it as well or keep it?
@Bushougoma6 жыл бұрын
It has nothing to do with the cruise at all. The transmission kick down cable determines the shift points so unless you want an erratically shifting transmission you need to keep it.

I cracked the plastic snout when I was replacing the starter. Now my gas pedal is stuck. Are these two things related, or do I have some other problem causing the gas pedal to be stuck. Thanks.

Hello Bushougoma, I really thought your video was the best I've ever seen. I recently had my transmission repaired on my 03 Honda Odyssey and the cruise control doesn't even work anymore. I am taking it back to the shop but does this video pertain to my vehicle as well. I always like to know what the shop is doing so nothing is done that i don't want done. Thank you for your excellent video!

for anyone watching this 10 years later, and you can't source another used throttle body. you might try this if handy with your hands and tools. make a couple pieces from thin but sturdy metal or plastic the same shape as the outer curved sides of the old plastic piece(Both pieces should/will be shorter & smaller-not going all the way around the curve-maybe an inch or so ), then carefully drill a few very shallow divots into the plastic circumference and epoxy the metal pieces to the both sides of the plastic piece- BE SURE THE CABLE IS INSERTED BEFORE EPOXY IS APPLIED TO THE CLEANED FLAT SURFACES ONLY away from the cable nub hole-- allow it to dry 24 -48 hours, reattach, then it should be good for some time to come -possibly the life of the car.

If the inputs aren't present suspect a bad switch on the wheel or a bad clock spring. From there go under the hood and pop the lid off the cruise motor make sure the cable is connected and the reel isn't broken. If it's connected properly perform a cruise module bypass test to make sure the motor is working. If all of the above checks out check the grounds on the cruise control module if they're good the cruise module is bad. If you have a DMM and would like more detailed instructions PM me.

Your vids are always clear, with good information . I like the added voice over commentary info as well. I wonder who holds the light and camera while you are working - perhaps you have a little brother doing that.. I was wondering my cruise stopped working , the SRS lamp had been on for a while and the horn just stopped working a couple months prior the cruise had worked sporadically but turning the steering wheel it would shut off ( a big hint what was wrong) . So I replaced the reel assembly AKA clock spring, Horn and SRS (no constant SRS light) both work now , the cruise does not work at all. The lamp in the Cruise switch on dash burned out - during/after or just before reel assembly replacement. I replaced both bulbs in the switch. I try the cruise and yet I get nothing no indication on instrument panel either. So what could possibly go wrong given the above scenario ? Is there anything special I would need to do for the clock spring replacement (I reset the SRS) but on the cruise there should not be anything. I noticed after replacing clock spring - the check engine light came on, code 12 and code 5. EGR and MAP. Could a faulty EGR or MAP cause the cruise control to not set? I plan to troubleshoot these 2 items today.

My 2002 accord EX has the same issue however the cruise linkage appears to be sandwiched between the throttle linkage and the body. What is the best way to remove and replace without damaging the throttle linkage springs? Many thanks.
@Bushougoma10 жыл бұрын
The easiest method would be to swap out the whole throttle body on that model year it's just a few fasteners. You could also disassemble the cable reel and swap the plastic part over but it would be more trouble.

Yeah, it looks like it might have been the cable being rusty. A good stomp broke the rust. Should I just treat the cable with some bike chain grease? Also, I realized I have the same cracked throttle linkage for the cruise that you explain in this video. WTH?! Thanks for making these videos. Super helpful to the backyard mechanics.

Hey Bushougoma! Thank goodness I saw this!! My 94 Accord sometimes has a high idle, especially after I apply the brakes when I'm stopped and in Neutral or Park, or if I rev it high. My cruise control also stopped working, and sure enough, my black plastic is broken like in your video. From what I can see, the metal end of the cruise control cable doesn't move, it's the cable that moves. So is it OK for me to simply JBweld the metal tab to the broken plastic where it should be?
@Bushougoma8 жыл бұрын
You could try it but ideally the cylindrical piece on the cable should be able to rotate freely on the component when the actuator pulls on the cable to prevent it from binding. As for the high idle I'd check the fast idle valve it's a coolant temperature controlled bypass valve that allows air around the throttle plate when the engine is cold. It's supposed to close when the engine warms up. This valve is not under computer control (like the IAC valve) and can cause a high idle when it malfunctions. To test it warm the engine up and remove the air intake tube from the throttle body inside the throttle body to the left of the throttle plate there will be two air bypass holes cover the bottom hole with your finger. If the idle returns to normal the fast idle valve is bad (stuck open). Don't attempt to adjust the valve that will only be a temporary fix just replace it.

Great job Bushougoma. Your title says "Failure Repair", but I didn't come across what failed. The problem with my 99 CRV is that the cruise control seems to work, engages and disengages, light on, etc. But once the speed set to 70, it gradually and slowly decelerate to 65, or slower. Very slowly, with the control still in effect. I could easily step on the pedal to increase the speed to 70, and press the set button, and it works for another few miles. Also, once in a while, while the speed set to 70, it would slowly and gradually accelerates to 80. But the "automatic" acceleration only works occasionally, and seldomly. Slack cable? Or the 99 CRV is a totally different animal? Any clues and suggestions? Thank you again.

devdogg2 They aren't sold individually for whatever reason and only come as part of the throttle body. Look for a used throttle body at a salvage yard if you can't find one locally you should be able to find one on E-bay.

J-B weld makes a product called J-B plasticweld about $5. I cleaned the plastic piece and put this material on. Then used a dremel and drill to reform the worn piece. It has been 2 months and working fine. Better than $300 for an entire new throttle body. Still need to remove the throttle-body as described. Can't believe honda doesn't sell the piece separately.

There's also another product called Q-Bond it can be used as an adhesive to bond broken parts together. Or it can be mixed with a powdered plastic filler which can be bonded and shaped to recreate any broken or lost pieces. Never tried it though.
