Honda ADV 150 Oil Change....Only 1.5 Uggadugs Required

Honda ADV 150 Oil Change
Tools Needed
10w30 Oil (MB and SG Rated)
12mm Socket or Wrench
17mm Socket or Wrench
Socket Wrench if using sockets
Slim Oil Funnel
Low Profile Oil Pan
Petroleum/Oil Based Cleaner (WD40 works but I would recommend something more specific. It's all I had at the time)
One thing I forgot to mention: How to reset the oil change indicator on the dash. To reset it, have the key in the off position. Press and hold the bottom right SET button on the cluster. While holding it down, turn the ignition to the on position. Keep holding the SET button until the oil change indicator disappears. It should only take a few seconds. A very simple process that I forgot to include in the video.
It's a Honda so you can definitely get away with using conventional oil. However, I would recommend synthetic or semi synthetic oil just because the wear properties are much better than mineral/conventional oil.

thx on the video, the torque is 18FLb. I recommend their honda oil brand as labeled on the manual, it's cheap and honda spent a ton of time and money with their engineers to develop it :) thx again

Hi I just installed new 2022 Michelin city grip 2 tires front and back, with Xtreme bead sealer, dynabeads and new metal valve stems. Let's say that it will feel better than new. The handling is so good. I highly recommend the change. Good luck.

Careful, you said it takes 1qt. after cleaning the screen, incorrect: It is 1qt. after "disassembly" as per the owners manual.

If you were to just drain the oil at the filter/screen hole, you would only need to remove that one plug in order to get all of the oil out and perform the screen cleaning. That is how the honda service guys do it. Plus you won't burn your hands on the hot exhaust pipe. The gear lube is serviced on the left hand side of the bike too. I like your videos, f bombs and all.

Just started on the second tank of gas on mine about 150 miles on odometer. Nice video. Looking for a Corbin seat already and the wind screen doesn’t do much even in higher position but overall still really liking it so far.

Change oil once every year regardless of mileage. I live in Iowa and moisture will get in oil. Early spring after winter rest I will change oil for the new season. At one quart of oil per change this is cheap insurance for good engine life.👍

thanks for the post. informative. but on the oil side of things the Walmart supertech oil actually performs better than most all of the major brands. Unless they changed something recently they have tested very well in the past places like consumer reports, most all the car and performance magazines. I like the bike.

It may not be a bad oil. I just would rather go with oil that's been proven professionally with a racing heritage.

Broken in properly as mine was I found no shavings in oil. Changed at 500 miles and 1,000 miles so far. Oil is cheap maintenance if you plan to keep for long time.👍

Haha thanks. I do all my oil changes. The easiest way is to unscrew the bolt with the socket while applying pressure upwards. Once it stops threading out, the oil should still not come out bc of the last thread being applied towards the opening. At that point you just yank it as fast you can. No pun intended haha

I would assume since this doesn't have a traditional motorcycle wet clutch (because it's a CVT) you don't have to use 'motorcycle' oil? Any regular car oil should do? The bottle you have says scooter oil. Is that marketing or is there really a scooter oil?

It could be marketing but I don't think it is. I have a side by side that has a CVT trans that uses the engine oil to lubricate the trans as well and they sell atv oil that is suited for cvts..now I could be wrong and it could definitely be a marketing gimmick for sure but I'm going to go with that it's not. Will using regular oil not meant for cvts ruin the trans? Idk. I've never looked into the science behind fluids made for cvts.

I'm only 155 lbs but the suspension is leagues ahead of say, a Grom. The grom bottoms out all the time. The suspension on the adv 150 has a lot of travel, plus it's pretty firm. I wouldn't worry about it bottoming out

I change mine every 2,000-3,000 miles or every riding season if I don't accumulate that much. The manual says I think every 5,000 or so. Honestly you'd be fine with what the manual says. I just personally like to have a little cleaner oil running through the motor.

​@@mustang2005 Yeah I saw that. Although scooters are super easy to ride and maneuver, some people lack the coordination and balance to ride in general. Plus I heard a lot of people weren't wearing helmets. I'm almost always wearing full gear (helmet, armored jacket, armored pants, gloves, and boots) no matter what I ride...even when i'm on my 9hp honda grom. Just because it's slow and only does like 55mph doesn't mean someone else doing that speed or higher won't t-bone you. Some people will argue that if you get t-boned you're done no matter what. However, I'd rather reduce my risk of dying instead of riding a motorcycle with a "fuck it" attitude.

Listen silly boy, just listen to the Engineers who spent hundreds of hours testing these engines. Now, obviously it depends on the geographic location , temperature , and the type of roads you ride on.
