Thanks for all the kind comments so far - my right leg has been feeling it a bit today! Organising the sale of this machine is underway and I will leave details here once it is all finalized. It will hopefully be auctioned in the near future.

about 1978 i wanted a ride to work bike i paid sixty pounds for a well worn CD175 . things went very well untill i went to the motorbike show in London .i came home with a very nice two into one exhaust .fitted it to the bike .and to be honest the bike spoilt the very nice exhaust .a strip down began .painting the tank and muguards etc . then the frame . my brother gave me a five speed CB 175 missing its cylinder head .but the CD head fitted straight on .the CB engine was 12 volt so all the bulbs needed changed . the bike was taking shape so two new rain cheater tyres went on .the bike looked and ran lovely .far too good to ride to work .so a search was made for a ride to work bike . the saga began again .

My first bike as a 16 year old was a Cd 175 field bike I wish I had the space for it.👍👍well done Paul for getting it running,you've earned a few pints after all the effort kick starting it 😃.

Excellent idea Paul. My first bike was a red L-reg CD175. It was a reliable little bike and was even went OK two up. A few things I remember about it: On a cold morning, it would start on full choke but wouldn't run on it, I had to decrease it to about half choke to move away then turn the choke off completely after doing about a quarter mile. It had a mild tendency to "white line" on road markings but that might have been the Yokohama tyres. The only "problems" I remember having with it were minor and weren't all it's fault: I had to replace a cracked number plate, the baffles fell out of one side of the exhaust (I replaced both sides with Honda originals and the engine really perked up), the previous owner caused an oil leak by putting the drive side cover back on with a new gasket but failing to clean off all of the old gasket (a 5 minute fix) and it didn't like to run with the fuel tank less than about one third full because of the height of the fuel tap entry hole inside the tank (maybe it wasn't original). I sold the bike to a neighbour around 1978, when I passed my test and bought a Triumph 3TA. It was a very good first bike and owed me nothing.

I've just remembered that the centre stand also became very stiff because I hadn't lubricated it. I then bent it when putting the bike on the stand, couldn't afford to replace it so I sawed it off.🤥

My second bike was a brand new CD175 in 1976. Surprising capable little bike in its day. Did you have a look inside the bores? How about the points? Compression test? Sounds to be low on compression and one cylinder firing. If there’s been damp in the bores there could be rust. You stand a huge risk of damaging the pistons and rings.
@paulhenshaw45142 жыл бұрын
The engine very definitely needs a full strip and rebuild, with little compression on the left and it would be wise to check everything in the engine.

I probably shouldn't write this, but... The US has given them about 100 Billion dollars. The few grand that bike will fetch would be better spent on the UK minors who were victims of assault or people finding it hard to heat their homes this winter. I applaud your generosity, but I think you could easily find someone locally that could put the funds to good use. At least then you'll be 100% sure the funds are actually getting to the people who need it. My 2 cents.

I wanted to help those I chose to help, while also feeling I have done a tiny something that goes against putin [small 'p' deliberate]. Others joined in with contributions, I did what I wanted to do.

@@paulhenshaw4514 I meant no disrespect or offense. Your generosity is to be praised. It's your property/money and you can do with it whatever you want. I've been taken advantage of with charity in the past. Bad people take advantage of a crisis and I hope your funds found its way to the people who needed it most. Have a great day.

The people of Donbas killed over the past 8 years. Probably not. No one was told about those atrocities, just the official narrative pushed by the mainstream media on behalf of the banks and WEF. Peace
