Thank you very much for your video, it helps me a lot. For those wondering whether you can change the a/c compressor clutch without take the compressor out, it is totally possible (but will take a lot of time), I just done this today. You don't have to take your bumper and alternator off, just need to take the bottom cover off and follow steps in this video to take the top cover and metal bar off (metal don't have to be off you can just lift it out of the way to remove the radiator fan), when you remove the radiator fan there is plenty of space to remove the a/c top 2 bolt.

Just going to do this a second time LOL. Don't go cheap on the compressor. Used a sub $200 one from rockauto and it took a dump on me after about 1.5 years (hole blown right out of the side - guessing the high pressure switch on the compressor didn't do it's job). Just ordered a denso one today which is what I should've done in the first place. And just a few pointers; that compressor you originally pulled in the video is the original factory equipped one with the green label that turns into a super charger after around 50-60k miles. Only the 1.8 civics got denso compressors. Also, no need to remove the alternator; just the passenger side cooling fan. And the radiator cover doesn't need to be completely removed (just unbolt it and swing it over to the right side). Also the whole bumper doesn't need to be removed either, just those top two grill screws (with Allen heads). Somebody previously was saying that you can get it from underneath but believe he's smoking something (maybe that works on a standard civic but there's no room with the 2.0L - even if you slid the compressor over by the bellhousing you would still need to drop the subframe a couple of inches. And believe it is standard practice to drain all of the old shipping oil from the compressor and put fresh stuff in there. IDK why they bother, maybe it's a warranty thing for people who forget to add oil but that PAG oil is like brake fluid and sucks up any moisture. Not sure if I would trust it coming from overseas.

What issues did you have that you swapped out the compressor? My 8th gen is acting up. The compressor turns on and engages but my rpm’s drop to 500 rpm , then the compressor disengages, goes back up to 900 rpm for a moment, then drops again when it rengages. Then that cycle repeats til I turn off the ac. The engine almost stalls and drives weird when that’s happening

I read somewhere that the clutch might not be engaging because there's not enough freon/refrigerant/R134A in it. Is this the case? And if so, should I first just try to add refrigerant before doing any other diagnostics? I'm saying should that be the first thing I do if the air is running warm. Or should I first check to see if the condenser clutches are engaging/spinning. And then add freon? In other words, even if the clutches are not engaging should I first add freon before trying to get them engaged. Because the lack of freon might be the cause of the clutch not engaging? I have a 2006 Honda Civic.
@chillhill6388

This is great! I have to pull mine out. Already did the altenator based on previous video from Gerb. My compressor runs cool air if it will engage, but blows a fuse when it tries. I put a hockey stick fown there to force the clutch to engage while running, and AC is ice cold. So I got myself a clutch kit off Amazon for ~ $70 USD. Its really common for the clutch to go and the compressor be just fine. $350 vs $70. We'll see if I can figure out the clutch. Looks like its just snap rings for the swap. I'll probably swap the oil and the rings after watching this. Any idea where to finda an o-ring kit for the compressor lines?

Really want to purchase the civic but I don’t really know the basics of all the parts needed for the ac to work. I think it needs compressor and an ac line. Any other parts I should know about?
@TheGerbsteve
@TheGerbsteve 6 жыл бұрын
He probably got a ac delete kit. People usually take AC out for weight reduction and boost purposes ;)... You will need compressor, line if none, condenser, expansion valve, and I think that's good.

Gerb Productions cool thanks for the info! Owner is saying it needs ac hose , compressor , and condenser. It probably does need that valve your talking about too. Do you know how much everything would be? I’m gonna install myself using your videos cause I don’t want to pay a lot for labor. Your pretty specific in your videos. Can’t wait to get my civic si. I’ve always wanted one

Np man 🤙🏼... just get those three things. Your expansion valve is on the back firewall of the engine. You will see it when you connect the ac line in. eBay bro, eBay is your friend lol. I pad $140 compressor, $80 condenser, and ac line, maybe $60?? You’re probs looking at $200+ for parts. Now if you had to pay someone, there’s another $300 👀

Correct, there's bolts you can access for the compressor with car jacked up from underneath.
@cirdancescles4370
@cirdancescles4370 Жыл бұрын
😂🤔🙄yeah idk who has actually tried that. It’s better to remove from the top and I’m just starting my first one. There are THREE subframe bolts to remove on just one side. Also, remove the front and rear engine/trans mounts to have enough slack in the subframe to sneak the compressor past. No, I’ll go from the top for this. I’m not afraid to drop the subframe. I’ve already removed and replaced a trans and clutch in my car. It makes no sense to do this job from underneath.

You guestimated correctly. 3 ounces PAG oil. The last .3 ounces were still in the compressor. Don't forget to pull a vacuum on your system for about 1/2 hr. -30 vac. Gets rid of moisture and air you let into the system. Could clog up expansion valve. Other wise good vid.

You didn't flush the lines or evaporator. Failure to do this will result in premature compressor failure and will void the new compressor warranty. You also didn't show the replacement of the expansion valve (which can be a real pain in the ass), drier or condenser.

Yo, you were supposed to flush the system of all pag oil. 😑 there is supposed to be 5 ounces in the entire system. You drain the old compressor of pag oil to match what was in the old compressor, and match the ounces to the new compressor. If you had 2.5 ounces in the old compressor that would mean there is 2.5 ounce in the rest of the system. Adding to much will lead to compressor failing or worse. If your old compressor had no pag oil than you needed to flush the system of all pag oil and add 5 ounces to the system. If there were 5 ounces in the system and you just added 3 ounces... now you got 8 ounces in the system. That could blow up your compressor. Just an FYI.
