Hot hatches come in so many different flavors across the globe, Honda is not new to the segment but until two years ago, America never got a #CivicTypeR on our shores and when it was brought over, it quickly snatched up crown for best in the segment. Of course, any king is bound to get a challenger and that's where Hyundai has come in with the all-new #VelosterN, this funky 3-door hatch comes with up to 275 HP, a 6-speed manual, a limited-slip differential, and an exhaust note that would make any #TypeR owner envious... all for about $5,000 less than the #Honda. So, has #Hyundai given us a true challenger to the #HondaCivicTypeR?

I went with veloster N performance pack. I like the civic and if I tried a little harder I probably could have gotten one at sticker. My problem was every Honda dealer were just a bunch of A holes I even went in with 12 grand cash in hand and still they treated me like I was stupid.I know more about these cars then there whole staff combined. I hate dealerships. I know my FICO score I know there running a business but come on and yes I got my own finance company to put a loan together. But in the end I found a veloster N performance pack in homestead FL and they treated me unbelievably well. I was shocked I paid almost 2000.00$ under MSRP and they even gave me a better apr then my bank could in the end I just couldn't pass the deal up. I feel it's so sad cause I love the type R but its dealerships that killed it for me. That said I love my N and I've had plenty of cars over the years it's nice to buy one with 10 year warranty and I don't have to touch it. I probably will though.

Almost the same experience here, except I actually like the N better. I enjoy the smaller footprint, and the lack of outrageous styling. The driving was tit for tat. There is no way I could drive these cars to their limit on the street, they're just to Damn fast. I would like to track my chalk white performance N at some point though. The local Honda dealers in my area are very condescending, and act like they could care less to have me as a customer quite frankly. I got the red carpet treatment at Hyundai, and their service department is highly decorated, and I met the manager prior to striking a final deal. Everyone was outstanding, and they found discounts for me I was unaware of, lol. Pretty unusual. I am a little shocked still that I went for it, but the car is amazing at any price. I feel quite blessed to have gotten one though, as I've never seen another on the road around where I live. Laters, and congrats to you too my brother.

Everything you said you went in with is why they brushed you off. Buying a vehicle isn't the same as it use to be. Cash is shit and so is your own lender. Dealerships profit more on partnered financing.
@nurzrachit7133
@nurzrachit7133 5 жыл бұрын
@@stryderhyu I agree to a degree, but some dealerships are run by blowhards who don't believe they or their sales associates need to work for a sale. They have this "you need me"attitude that is not terribly appealing. That's Honda in my area. Every time I go to look at new cars every few years or longer, I drop by the dealers to see first hand how things are looking. Every time they run me off with their arrogant, rude behavior. I bought one Honda new, a 1997 Accord sport, it was ok, nothing special. Since then I have purchased 8 different cars new and used, none Honda's. Course Honda makes great vehicles for the most part, but they are not worth all that bologna in my opinion. If I'm dropping 30k plus, there better be a little schmoozing going on because you need me more than I you. Granted, if I really wanted a vehicle, I'd put up with it... It's only one time basically, but if I'm on the fence already, that type treatment doesn't lend itself well to your product. Just my two cents.

@@stryderhyu wait there is a misunderstaning here i did not go in guns blazing with 12k just to show off. this was over many months of consideration. i went into many diffrent honda dealerships that was just one example! the first time i had nothing but my credit and i understand how dealers work. they are under no obligation to tell you what bank will give you the best rate. so when they come back with 14% interest rate i know theres a problem then all of a sudden they claim oh we can do this interest rate. its all a bunch of bull. i mean there are skilled sales guys but the most skilled is the finance guy he is the real snake i even had one guy tell me he could get me a lower rate if i bought there extra protection plan claiming the bank required it for me to qualify. I mean come on thats a complete pile of lies and deceit. im sure you know how it works especialy where i live there are huge mark ups on every thing. even a reguler si i wont mention names here but 30k for a 2 door coupe lol. when i say i went in with 12k that was an experment to see if i was treated a little more seriously. i just wanted to test drive a type R which they let me only after seeing the cash and running my credit. and i understand why they dont just let you test drive a type R especially when they first came out. i know they dont want a bunch of joy riders but there is a diffrence between making money and just good old plain customer service attitudes and just being ignored when you walk in to some of these places. when it comes down to it if you go in at the right time some dealers are dying to make a sale to meet there mark and get there bounes for that month. i am just trying to make a point that not every one is a sucker and some dealers would rather let you walk out then take a mini deal and just not sell a car to a real buyer. i had the same shit happen with the veloster at certain hyundai dealers. thats why i drove almost 400 miles to buy the one i did because i called got a person who wanted to sell a car and i put a small deposit and made a mini vacation out of it and i just happened to walk into a brand new dealer that prided themselves with good customer relation.

@@stryderhyu see the problem is i was not desperate to buy a car and be the first guy on the block with there new type R or whatever new car that comes out that year if i was i would have bought one in 2017 when they came out. and dealers know this. there are peole who make huge mistakes and sign and have buyers remorse or realize oh shit what did i just get in too. thats why i wish the states would have the same laws that canada has when it comes to regulating dealers.

People who complain about the type R don't understand the history of the car especially Americans. Americans cry about not getting certain high performance cars and when they get them they complain about everything until the manufacturer ruins the car. If people have an issue with the type R then they would have disliked the Mitsubishi Evo 5 and Evo 6 getting into America,yet they cried about not getting them.

And for 10k less you could make up the 30 hp easy. You don't buy a Type R for 4 doors and having to spend extra money or just a muffler shop to cut out a resonator for the Type R to get it to sound good is kinda weird (Why does Honda think Americans want to buy a soft sounding road car?)
@TassieLorenzo
@TassieLorenzo 4 жыл бұрын
@@JEMeyers13 From Honda's point of view, there is no reason for the car to have an obnoxious loud exhaust since the standard exhaust flows more than enough. Dumping fuel into the exhaust on purpose (i.e., wasting fuel *on purpose*), just to make a pop and crackle effect (as the Hyundai N, Focus RS, Mini Cooper JCW, Renault Megane RS, AMG A45 and other European cars do) is against Honda's ethos. Most of those valved exhaust "loud modes" were done using loopholes in the EU vehicle noise rules (since only driveby noise needs to meet limits), which the new 2018 EU WLTP rules have cracked down on. Whereas Honda have designed their vehicle to genuinely comply with even the old EU noise limits. :)

I’ve finally had the chance to drive both cars. The type r was everything I had hoped for in a performance car and the N was everything I ever needed in a performance car. The type r is hands down the better car but here in Canada they retail for 48k and the N retails for 34k. For comparison sake the Civic Si is 34k and it’s hfp model is 38k. The veloster turbo is 27k. You just can’t beat the value of the Hyundai’s and I ended up settling for the very latter. It’s got more then enough punch for a daily and I saved a huge amount while also getting into an automatic. The Honda cars aren’t worth their price tag if you ask me.

@Abubakar Abdullahi I own the Veloster N and after the dealer mark ups on the type r I saved $18,000cdn. The civic is a nice car never once did I dispute that, it’s performance advantages are only ever seen on the track where most will never drive unless you opt for the dual clutch in which it’s much faster than the type r and cheap plastics on the interior who cares it’s soft everywhere you touch and it comes loaded with more features than the civic and again did I forget to mention it was $18,000 less!!! The seats are way more comfortable in the veloster, the driver position is more sporty than the civic, and it still will fit 4 adult passengers. Who cares resale value, buying a used performance vehicle is one of the dumbest things you could ever do. The veloster is a great car for the money and a hard to beat value. not the right match up as the CTR goes up against the Golf R's of the world and Hyundai already stated it's goal was not the R but the GTI. The Veloster N goes up against the GTI really...the SI get's smoked but that's Honda's fault and the ST's on the used market. The CTR, Golf R, and Focus RS has been compared against each other enough times for a reviewer to know this but you aren't the first to line up a CTR (one of the best FWD cars periodt) to the VN. That is a compliment enough for the VN since it punches well above it's price point.

The CTR is awesome but it's hard to find one at or near MSRP. Also, the 20" wheels with 30 series tires are not suitable for city streets. It is almost inevitable that they will get damaged so also factor in $1,500 -$2,000 for new wheels/tires. If you want this thing to also sound like it should, factor in another $700-$1,000 for an exhaust.

Though the Stinger is a very, very awesome car to drive, I would easily go back and pay the $25k premium of the Germans to go back to them (but I’m likely going with a Grand Cherokee SRT). The Germans just have a quality, refinement, and solidity about them that is far superior to my Stinger.

Great video as usual! Now being a Veloster N owner myself I feel like it's worth pointing out the amount of customization it offers. This to me feels like one of the strongest features of the N, being able to go into N Custom and fine tune everything from the suspension to the exhaust sound. N mode alone is definitely not made to be used in a daily situation as it definitely is way too harsh on everyday roads, but in N custom you can have the softness of Normal mode while never having to give up the intoxicating pops and crackles with every shift. @LightSum N. Exactly. These reviewers always put it in default N mode and complain about the ride quality. They are both awesome cars, I have a Veloster N so my opinion might be based, but in any case I`ve always wanted a Type R since its launch, when I had enough money to finally get one the price was too much, USD $48k new, $45k used with low mil, $42k with high mil, while Veloster N DCT fully equipped brand new in red (my color of choice) $37k, I`m sorry Honda, it`s a great car but still a Civic and you are asking prices of a different category of cars, with $50k USD I can get a much better car for performance, or to drive family around, the market is open and anyone careful with their money knows how to spend it in a smart way. Also for anyone saying that the Veloster will lose value quickly, it will not lose $10k USD in 5 years, spending +$10k on a car because it will lose only $5k after 5 years is not a saving measure or investment, Type R is 30% more expensive than the Vesloter N, they are both cars, they are both losing value over time, that`s about it, if you want a car that don`t lose value over time just get a super car that costs 6 digits, so you can use your "this is an investment, because it doesn`t lose value as much as a daily driver" excuse. Also please stop flexing Type R`s, "Yoo my Type R can beat the hell out of the Veloster N" well it costs 30% more, same with a Corvet, Mustang, Stingers, they can beat Type R`s easily buuuuttt they are way more expensive, there`s always a bigger fish, as long as you are having fun with what you can afford that`s all that matters, and Hyundai did slap Honda`s in the face with a great performance vehicle that costs 30% less, drive well and stay safe.

Just test drove a Veloster N Performance. Felt pretty smooth even in N mode, but felt a little slow. I'm comparing to my speed 3 with bolt on and a tune for reference. Still though got to love that exhaust and it definitely handles better than my Mazda. I haven't driven the type R but I'm leaning toward the N. With a tune and no parts you can add 30 Hp and 100 tourqe. Fun car!

Bias review. How many times you gonna say honda is faster? I think we got it the first time.speed isn't everything. Veloster was design to have beautiful cornering. Veloster is 100 percent better value and funner car than the typer. And i 100 percent disagree that typer has better steering. And you didnt mention the type r has a nasty rev limit delay compare to the veloster. I can go on and on... type r is definitely not worth another 7000 dollars over the veloster. Do not trust this review. Veloster is 100 percent the better car for the money hands down.

Have you compared the engineering under the cars!? :) For example, the traditional geared limited slip differential in the Type R (or Renault Megane RS) is more reliable (the torque biasing is done using gears, and needs no extra maintenance) than the BorgWarner electronic clutchpack limited slip differential used in the Veloster N and Golf GTI.

The old v-tech used to sing in your ear so sweetly when the cam would change over. That was as much Honda as their name. I miss that and they need to find a way to bring that back. It’s just not the same without it.

I had two 8th gen Si coupes (which I loved), a 9th, and then a 2018. I drove the 2018 about 5,000 miles and traded it. Hated the engine. If it had a K20, I'd never sell it.

@@r32juan you obviously have no idea what you're talkin about. if you actually did some research wings on jet airplanes are designed to flex and bend. Veloster N is a great car but it doesn't deserve to be compared to the CTR. CTR belongs with the Golf R, STI, Focus RS, etc. and the Veloster N belongs with the Focus ST, Golf GTI, Civic SI, etc. Just seems like a waste of time to compare these 2 cars. Brings the Type R down to a level it doesn't belong at and while the Veloster N is great it's not a Type R equivalent.

Si's are behind the N, sure, but it's still closer to the N than an N is to the CTR imo. Completely fair if you disagree. Maybe the problem is that the N is just right in the middle of all of them.
