Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower kzbin.infoUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.

For anyone reading comments the hrx is a great mower if your servicing annual contracts say on commercial accounts or even residential where your contracted to mow when it is wet and rainy. The hrx light weight ruts a lot less that the hrc and does a fine job bagging. I would recommend any company having a couple hrx mowers for use on those wet days or as a backup mower.

Thanks for this video. I also have 2 Honda mowers: HRR and HRX. Like the commercial mower in this video, I can use the HRR as a vacuum because it also bags really well. So well that you can run it on the sidewalk and it will pick up any debris left from edging. At the same time, I find that I have to empty the bag way too often. Since my mowers have the same gas tank size, I can comment about fuel use between the two engines. The HRX will run about 1.25 hours on a tank full, while The HRR will run about 1.75 hours on a tankful. The HRX is a better all around mower in my case but I am glad I have both.

Hi. I owned and operated a lawn care business for the past 4 years. I own both the commercial 216 and the consumer hrx 217. I love them both. The benefit of having a 217 is that if you're mowing fescue type grass, it doesn't leave a heavy track mark in the lawn. The commercial 216 is considerably heavier than the 217. I personally use the commercial most of the time because of the daily abuses I give it with all the mowing I do. the 217, being plastic, will not sustain the daily abuses of commercial work. Yes, the 217 is half the cost of the commercial counterpart but if you're mowing 5 plus houses per day, you'll need something with a bigger air filter and designed to last.

Great video sir. I've done tons of research on the Honda mowers and the HRC216 mower uses a commercial GSV160 engine with ball bearing supported crankshaft and conventional crankshaft driven camshaft/push rod/overhead valve design. The HRX and HRR mower uses the GCV160 or GCV190 engine with an internal crankshaft driven timing belt/overhead camshaft design. While the CGV engine does not have a ball bearing supported crankshaft, the design has been around for almost 20 years so it's obvious Honda has designed a proven and reliable engine while maintaining an internal timing belt design.

I have 2003 HRC216HXA and the problem for commercial use that is the bag is way too small. Every 200 feet on a heavy lawn requires it to be emptied which will cut into productivity. I use the optional side discharge but the problem with that is throwing weed seeds. The height of the commercial non-adjusting bar is critical. I am 6'2". If the wheels are not adjusted evenly from front to rear the handle will be 1" lower than normal. This will kill your back over an 8 hour day or much sooner if you have a bad back. One more point. I believe the newer Honda hydrostatic mowers have a faster ground speed than my 2003 so that will help with productivity. Problems so far over 16 years is the drive shaft now needs replacement and the bad gas manufactured today required me to overhaul the carburetor which was full of saw dust looking particles.

how much worse is the mulching on the commercial unit? I am in need of another commercial small mower and am shopping around. Going 21 this time instead of 30, and do a TON of mulching in the summer. We pretty much only bag really tall yards and spring / fall clean ups.

The HRC 216 has a lot more torque than the HRX217. I run both and your review is pretty spot on. The only thing I'd add is that the residential HRX217 will not last nearly as long as the commercial 216. It's just not built the same. We get maybe 2 season out of the residential before things start falling apart on them. Nice video.

The HRC model I owned had a nearly bulletproof construction. My complaint is as you said, engine power. Self Propelled mowers should always have 180cc plus ohv or ohc engine. I spent way too much time bogging down while mulching with the HRC. If Honda made two improvements it would be be the ultimate 21 Improvement one- put a GSV190 or create a GXV190 for this thing. Improvement two- a choke switch on the engine instead of a cable on the handle...with a blade brake you dont need the convenience of a cable that stretches and requires being adjusted. If Honda made a GXV190 then bye bye to Kawi fj180, Briggs, 8.50, and Kohler xt

frank392 although both use hydrostatic transmissions, the commercial unit uses a much more robust (especially internally) transmission than the residential unit. I just purchased the HRC216HXA lightly used for $600 online. If your mowing wet grass GET IT. It will suck up anything it goes over, period. Leaves, pine needles, tall grass, wet grass, it bags extremely well. I mean the bagger is like 2 times the size of a normal mower. Saves time, money, and cuts the best I have ever seen. The only negative is its heavy has hell, for a female it would be hard to handle. Im 6'3" 220lbs so its easy for me, but it weighs over 125lbs. the HRX217 has the kevlar or plastic type deck, which isn't bullet proof, it cracks if your hard on them. If your using the mower commercially I would go with the HRC.

Bought a new Honda HRX217HZA (electric start, 21") gas hydrostatic w/roto-stop. Followed the manual (probably my 12th mower). Electric start worked twice, then battery appeared to be discharged (just like the maual said it would). Tried the pull start: not going to happen> would not budge. Thought could be a hydrostatic lock or cracked ring or frozen/locked blade clutch or ???Pulled the spark plug. engine spun easily. Put the plug back in, locked still. Since the mower didn't come with a charger, had to order one and still waiting. Would like to get the mower running. Any thoughts on why it is locking up? I did a search and found that model online at a big box store and in the reviews with 1 or 2 stars only, there were MANY others with the same issue. Also, even though it only ran for about 5 minutes, there was more engine vibration than I would have expected and the throttle surged the entire time. Any ideas; or, should I just return it? Thanks in advance.

Remember when they were called the "Honda Master" ?? I have used Honda Movers (HRX 215 217) in my mowing Business (For over 30 years)..Sadly about 7 years ago they changed the wheel/tire design. No longer do they have an actual tire on the wheel. Instead they just have a glued on Tire skin..First year using this the Skin came off. Took it back to where I purchased it. Showed them what happened. He was in touch with Honda..They warranted the first of his claims.(Yes he had quite a few on the new purchases)..Honda eventually told him the Tires were coming off due to Abuse..(Hitting curbs) and the dealer refused to do anything..I told him to go pound sand.. Honda's have gotten cheaper built over he years.. Which bothers me and they do not listen to customer complaints. Oh and BTW please use Ethanol Free gasoline in all your power equipment. All of my shop mechanics from Echo to Honda recommend using Ethanol Free Gasoline instead of E Gas and a stabilizer.. Huge companies who buy new every year will just use E gas..But for someone like me who cuts 15 accounts on top of a full time job..Was told using Regular gas without Ethanol is way better for the equipment in the long term.

I am not looking to fix too much and like the simplicity of the push powerd one, less to maintain. Also nervous that it is discontinued, I think; and they will come out with a 190cc commercial right after I buy the 160..Which one would you choose now that price is equal? Can you please break this issue down for me? Want to buy once for a good long time.... Thanks in advance

Hey, I've been through a few of the Honda HRR216's. They cut great, fire up in one pull, and the transmission srarts strong but gives out after a few months of daily use. What is everybody's experience with the HRX's and HRC's. Do thier transmissions hold up strong for years or are what? Appreciate the info.

What people often don't look at is the engine build or quality of materials. The commercial mower has the GX160, which has a forged steel crankshaft and is supported on ball bearings. The noncommercial is a cast piece. The commercial has a cast iron piston sleeve. I'm not sure on the non-commercial.

Apparently, the commercials have a better trans., and silky smooth bearings in the wheels. @@stevecarr1992 I think the transmission is the same but how the power gets there (belt or shaft) is the different. I am almost positive the transmisison part numbers are the same. The commercial one has a weaker engine and holds more fuel but is much heavier. The main reason I got the HRX is because it mulches better and thats all I do with that mower, never bag.

CenterTree777 neither can side discharge, but the hrx217 doesn't require a mulching plug just move the lever to set it to mulch. You can choose how much u want to bag or mulch, both have rear discharge. I don't know if there is a side discharge chute kit for the hrx but there is one for the hrc and it's huge meaning big cutout for the clippings to side discharge and not get clogged

What does residential and commercial mowers mean and what’s the difference
@spercoco
@spercoco 9 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for making this video. I'm pretty much still confused lol. I know there is a Honday HRR216 PKA I see in places but I have not seen a HRX217 so that is my first confusion. Most of my customers I mow bi-wekly so I do about 20 to 30 lawns a week and it's just me (no helpers) so I am finally looking to get a commercial mower after years of using residential consumer mowers but I am confused as to what to get. Everyone tells me something different. I have to say that most of the lawns I do are not straight and flat; there are curves, hills, slopes, etc...so I am not crazy about self-propel type mowers for a couple of reasons: for one thing I turn a lot, go backwards, etc....I think the self propel is only good for long stretches. The other reason is they always seem to stop working (the self propel mechanism) so then it ends up being harder to push instead of easier. They are also more expensive and then finally I like doing the pushing so I get my exercise. OK well I guess that is more than two reasons lol! but do you have a recommendation for a mower for someone like myself?

I know this is a year ago but I like the yard machines at Home Depot!!!! They are 200 bucks and cut very nice! Been beating on one for 3 years now and always starts on the first pull! Only pice on it that I broke and had a hard time finding was the pull cord attachment. Other then that for 200 bucks you can't beat it! I guarantee you if I cut a lawn right next to one he cuts with one of these you wouldn't know a difference! Are these better? Of course they are! But you want something to do a good job at cutting but don't want to drop 600 the yard machine is the way to go!

I love Honda mowers. I have a hrm215 that is basically a hrx217, but older and without the mulch director thing. Sadly, it is broken. Has a slightly bent crankshaft, so it vibrates real bad when idling or not mowing and the cut quality kinda sucks now. It also has a leak, probably from a seal around the block somewhere. I would like to fix it, but about the time I fix it, I could have bought a new one. I do have another Honda, not sure what it is, but it is a lower model that is ok. Gets the job done, but I miss using the hrm215. I am surprised to find that you like the weight of the hrc, as most people say it's too much and leaves ruts. I find that like the hrx, my hrm leaves horrible ruts (I think they water it way too much), especially in one client's yard when I have to bag. I would mulch it, but they don't want that, so I guess I will have to do what I have to do. I hope to get an hrc someday though. They just look like a beast of a machine compared to the cheap plastic deck machines. Just wish they would make the engine bigger...

The honda rep inspected it via photos my dealer provided (did not inspect in person). I only used it for my personal yard ( 1 acre of lawn for 2.5 acre property). Had the typical rock hits but nothing out of the ordinary. Really bummed that Honda wont stand by their warranty.

That kinda sucks. At this point, you can replace the whole mower, or you can buy a shiny new deck for $168-$178 and be back in business. Depending on the condition of the rest of the machine, it's almost always worth it to repair a Honda.

What’s up with the axles on your trailer? It seems like the only real difference that should matter is easily solved with adding ballast to the front of the 217. I have two 217s, one is an HXA with the blade brake, and the other is a standard three speed. If these are getting hoisted up and into the bed of a pickup, why would I or any of my guys want to lift a steel deck, when you can get the same mower with a plastic one? Also, I would think if the micro cut blade set is sharpened regularly, it should work well on either mower. How about a quick video of the 217 cutting next to the 216, both with freshly sharpened and burnished blades, maybe a ground-level shot of one pass and the same speed and height? That would be pretty definitive. Thanks for your time.
