Getting the Rally this week to replace a 18 year old XR650. It will live on a RV receiver hitch and spend most of its life running dirt roads and making grocery & beer runs. Cool video, thanks!

Seems like the rally is the perfect halfway point between a dual sport and a light adventure bike. It’s right on the edge. I love that. Really looking at getting one if I can find it.
@tarjas Жыл бұрын
Just make sure you adventures don’t include highway speeds with luggage and an incline. 330lbs of bike, 300lbs of person and luggage, 286cc don’t add up well.

Honda made a true winner of a motorcycle. It’s a shame they don’t build more. I love my 300L, though I do mull over if a Rally would be better. But in the end I think I made the right choice

Just got my M1 in ON, Canada. While I love clean and rumbling old cruisers/bobbers stylistically, I've been checking out dual sports more and more because I didn't want to limit my riding to just the street and I've been looking for a jack of all trades kind of bike. While the KLX300 has been in my crosshairs for a bit, I've been looking into the Honda CRF300L + Rally options more and more. Watching this now I'm sold on getting the rally and you got me with calling it a Bard from D&D which is the first class I ever played and I loved the versatility. Getting the Rally and making it a capable, lightweight adventure bike sounds perfect to me. Thank you for putting your time and effort into this video, it was great and helpful.

Just a heads up, The L and the Rally have different part numbers for the fork spring and rear shock. So, its very likely they have different suspension stiffness.

I really wanted a rally, but there have been very few used ones for sale in BC Canada, but a used '21 300L came available locally for such a good price, I grabbed it. I already have an acerbis tank and skid plate on order, as well as a t-rex racing windshield with nav bar. I still think I'll get a rally at some point, but there was a $2K difference between a used rally here and this 300L, so I'll enjoy the L for a couple years.

If I understand it correctly, one big reason why the Rally's stock tank is > the 300L + Acerbis tank is that you get that extra fuel capacity without having to concede an accurate fuel gauge reading, since the 300L gauge is calibrated for the stock tank and not the additional volume the Acerbis tank adds.

It's funny, I was looking at the two bikes on the showroom floor just this morning, and decided that the Rally was not worth the extra $1000CAN, but now you have me thinking. Also, I look at those trails you are riding and imagine taking my V-Strom 1000 down one, and that thought alone makes me really want an L OR a Rally. That would be pure torture on the Strom!

Did you loose wind protection by cutting the fairing on your Rally? I own one and have thought of doing it
@Matt-xi8zr Жыл бұрын
I’m in the same boat as you. I think the loss in wind protection would be noticeable. The wind protection on my Rally is much better than my Tenere 700. I am worried about bashing up the plastic on trails. I don’t really want to add heavy crash bars. If I don’t cut the fairings I suppose I may be less willing to ride challenging trails. 🤷♂️
@reg26 Жыл бұрын
Matt I've been using my Rally a lot off road since I asked that question. I do not think it's worth t getting the crash bars. I have dropped my Rally quite a few times and no damage at all. The plastics are cheap and if one breaks while doing a BDR or something I would just ducktape it and replace when I get back from the trip. They are way cheaper than buying the bars plus I don't want the added weight, JMHO .@@Matt-xi8zr

@@jorgem.sanchezgonzalez5903 you wouldn't if you're just doing off road but if you want to do long tours, which is presumably what the rally model is aimed for, it's very useful. Hello friend, great comparison. 2 things I'd like to ask: Is the seat comfort different? Maybe different foam densities ... just wondering if your butt hurts more on one or the other after a long day riding. Does the Rally have additional mounting points for gearbags on the rear frame? Greetings🧭
@MotorcyclesOffroad8 күн бұрын
The seats feel the same to me, they both hurt after a while of riding. I went with a seat concepts foam and installed it over the original seat pan. Easy to do and much cheaper this way. The rally has the same mounting points from what I can tell.
