My nephew signed a 36mo lease for a Toyota Corolla that was $700/mo and $20k for purchase at end of lease. Literally $45k for a Corolla. Luckily the bank caught it and had him return the car to the dealer.

I tried to buy a Honda Civic and ALL the Honda dealers in my area were adding $3000 to $5000 to the price of the car with things like $2000 LoJack, $1500 "Weather Protection", $800 window tint, etc. I ended up buying a fully loaded Acura Integra for LESS money than a top trim Civic. Crazy. Acura dealer had no add ons and gave me a nice discount and a good trade in price.

I was in my local Honda dealership a few months ago looking at a used Civic. I called before I went and got an "Out the Door" price. After a quick test drive we sat down and started talking numbers. The initial sheet they gave me was $3000 more than what they had quoted me, and the extra $3000 was for Perks. The true value of the perks was maybe $200. Come to find out that on new vehicles they are adding $5000-$7000 for the same "perks". Needless to say I will never set foot in that dealership again.

Several dealers (Toyota, Acura, and VW) over the past several months the wife and I visited are doing the same thing. Selling the vehicle with mandatory add-ons. The prices ranged from 2k to 4k for alarm systems, door guards, wheel locks, and tinted windows. All of them stated they add-ons could would not be removed. Like Ray stated, we thanked them for their time and we departed the dealership. Only the Toyota dealership manager spoke with us last month as we were getting back in our vehicle and he then stated he would sell us the vehicle (4Runner) with out any of the add-ons.

yeah you have to walk in say i will buy it if you take all the make believe stuff off the window sticker. focus on the out the door price that is all that matters, i tell them they can leave all the addon's on if they want but say i wont pay more than msrp so they will have to discount the car down if they want to keep their addon money. i don't care if the dealer screws the manufacturer or the manufacturer screws the dealer, i will only pay what i want to pay or i will go somewhere else. the other good trick is to be open with them, say im undecided between three models between 3 different manufacturers, even if your set on one specific car then go drive all three and say your still undecided and ultimately your likely to buy a vehicle from the dealer that has the best deal. That usually has them falling over themselves to give the best quote and you can play them off against each other, they will call and when they do say your leaning towards the other brand because they currently have the better deal, the will ask what do they need to do to change your mind then you work them down. NEVER EVER buy a car on the first visit, go once to look once to test drive then the 3rd time you buy. make sure on the second time you get them to email you their best offer to compare to the other offers you have from other dealers on other brand cars. all the price negotiation needs to be done outside of the dealership on the phone and via email if you want to have a chance of getting a good deal.

One dealer sold a car out from under us WHILE WE WERE NEGOTIATING. One dealer said they would give us $24k for our trade, then lowered that to $17k when the time came to talk numbers. The last straw was when we saw a car coming off the delivery truck...still had the plastic on the seats and everything. We told them we'd take it right now as it was. No LoJack, no tint, no door edge guards, etc. They said Nope, we have to put all that on before we sell it (to the tune of $3,000). We gave up on Honda after that. After a year of being on the market for a new SUV, finally I found a Nissan Dealership that was easy to deal with. Up front I told them that I wanted the price listed on their website. In California the DMV has a link where you can calculate taxes & registration fees. I add it that amount to the list price & that total amount was what I was willing to pay for the Pathfinder that I wanted. They offered me exactly the OTD price I had in mind. Also because I have been a customer of Nissan for a long time I end up purchasing my dream SUV with 34% down & the rest with 0% interest in 36 months. Now I understand the reason their inventory continues to move along because they really treat customers with very friendly environment not like other brand dealerships that were not willing to make a deal. So finally thanks to Garden Grove Nissan I really highly recommend them.

I went to Honda about 4 days ago to look at the Si and/or Type-R. The numbers they showed me made me laugh! $58,000 for the Type-R and $45,000 for the Si! They are pretty conceited about those cars. I understand they are a popular and reliable vehicle, but such greed disgusted me. I went back to Subaru because their comparable vehicle (WRX) was $32,000. On top of that, the sales staff didn’t seem to write me off when I walked in because of my blue collar uniform at Subaru. VW and Honda almost seemed to scoff at me walking in until I showed that credit score, then I got respect. 😤

I would definitely buy again from Classic Honda of Midland Texas.

I can’t say enough about these videos. My dad used to sell cars and always did the shopping for me but he wasn’t able to help me this time so I had to learn how to do it myself. I watched as many of these videos as I could to know what to expect and when I got to the dealer, I expected to walk out and they knew it so they were desperate to make it happen. I’m happy to say I got a good deal and I know that because the car edge website told me what the fair price of the car I got should be. I didn’t rob them blind, but I am happy with the car I got and the price I paid and they were happy to sell it. Worked perfectly. Now I’m adding all the things they tried to sell me for thousands of dollars for way less by buying them on Amazon, and getting what I want instead of the cheap factory stuff. Thanks again 👍🏻

Honda is a rip-off. Here in Mexico the CR-V jumped 50% in price from 2020 to 2024. And since these is the favorite vehicle of the cartels, it’s the most stolen SUV, so insurance is very expensive. Hey, my out the door price for a new Civic Hatchback Sport Touring I'm looking at ordering is $31,127 with a $1000 off MSRP & $1900 for my trade in, that includes $500 for state tax, $499 for doc/processing fee & $27.50 for transfer tag/title, the MSRP of the Civic is $33,000. I went to another dealer across town & their out the door price for the same $33,000 MSRP Civic Hatchback ST deal & trade was $34,215! The dealer that getting my business does NOT do add-on stickers on the window for anything & they didn't try to sell me any added protection plans either! They sell a lot more Honda's than the other dealer does bc of pricing, it's a family owned dealer & that's their only dealership! The overpriced dealer has 17 other dealerships from other manufactures, they add a $1999 add-on sticker regardless if you don't want the add on's, they had a new Civic that just came in on the truck when I was looking without the options but my salesman said whether you get the options or not you will still be charged $1999 for them!

I got the deal I wanted. Discount as much as you can get. Once we left the dealer in the car. My wife had me alone. She looked at me and said I will never go with you to a dealer again. I'm so happy to hear from all these honest dealership employees. I'm honored to be in their presence. I'm sure not a single one of them is like the one who tried to take advantage of my Alzheimer's Patient (obvious cognitive disabilities) mother, or the dealership who quoted me a 5K lower price on a vehicle than they did my wife (for the exact same car just a couple days apart). During a visit to my local Honda/AutoNation dealership 5 years ago, I tried to negotiate repairs or a price reduction on a 3 yr old Odyssey (which my mechanic inspected, and gave a list of 10 issues). Their response was to hand me a pamphlet which said "We Don't Negotiate - the Price is the Price". I walked away. I may buy a Honda in the future, but NOT from any dealer who refuses to negotiate. Also, they advertised it as "Certified Pre-owned", and when I questioned them, they said, "yeah, it's AutoNation Certified", which means AutoNation certifies it's a used car (the odometer tells you that). These tactics have soured me on AutoNation, but I'm sure they're not the only ones pulling this crap. SEARCH OUT FAIR DEALERS & BUY FROM THEM. I bought a new Honda from a dealer 90 miles away once, because they offered me a great price by email. Honda dealerships are the worst in Canada. We went to our local dealership in North Vancouver in British Columbia Canada. We were looking at a new 2024 Honda Pilot. We agreed on a price with taxes in the parking lot based on the window sticker price. We go inside the dealership. The salesman goes to talk to manager and comes back with more details. $400 extra dollars for lug nut locks $1800 extra dollars for undercoating and interior protection coating that was already applied to vehicle $1400 extra dollars for documentation fee $600 extra dollars for picking a white coloured Pilot WTH! What a bunch of dishonest clowns. We walked away. A few months later we custom ordered a 2024 pilot from a different dealership out in Burnaby. Luckily there was now a 2000 dollar incentive (big whoop). We could easily have afforded the first dealer price but it is the principle. We were not going to do business with outright crooks. Many of these dealerships are price gouging dishonest crooks. Totally unethical. Dripping with sleaze. Boycott the price gougers and dealership crooks.

I've been to enough dealers and negotiated enough to know that if I'm offered an OTD price without anything off the asking price, or maybe the standard $500 off, the person I'm dealing with doesn't respect me or my time. ESPECIALLY if there have been no price drops on the car or better yet price increases, I know my time is being wasted and I'm either talking to the wrong salesman or I'm at a stealership.

The object of the game is NOT to turn your inventory as quickly as you can. The object is to make as much profit as possible. If you sell your Honda Civics for $100 each, you will move a hell of a lot of cars but not make much money. The savvy seller knows that it is the buyer that sets the price of his merchandise. He is looking for the right value for his money. I've been buying Hondas since the 1980s. They were always good value with reliable engines and transmissions. I have a 2001 Prelude that I bought used, and it is a damn good car. I also bought a 2009 Civic that I think is a good car with cheap interior. I bought a 2006 Tacoma, because the Ridgeline looked like an aborted SUV, and it's turned out great. I never buy service contracts and other hoopla. Just bare bone deals, and I never go to the dealer for maintenance. I've run these 3 used cars for years with no major problems.

Buy a good car. Lexus are shiny Toyotas, and highly overrated and overpriced.

@@JohnCap523 Just priced out both the Rav4 Limited and the NX 250 Premium....and the Lexus isn't that much more. Also, the Lexus has a better residual value. I do plan on looking at and getting the numbers on both

@@discopotato675 Because RAV4 IS the most overpriced car in the country next to the Prius Prime. The XSE or Limited are $15k+ overpriced. And very mediocre. But people buy’em up; mostly people who don’t know cars…

What is messed up is that I remember the Honda dealer in my town doing this back in the 1980s. Mind you, it was not to this extent. Whenever I see one of these stickers, I won't even sit down if that is immediately not stricken from the deal. I tell them right off the bat that I refuse to pay that and there is no point discussing the matter further. Full MSRP is where we start or we don't start at all.

I bought the 2024 CRV hybrid Sport-L 2k under MSRP. After my credit check they said that my interest is 10% (My credit score is excellent) but thanks to you guys, I knew about the bank rate. When I asked about that, they said they made some mistake and udpated to 4.9% for 5 years with 5k down.

80k for a 1500 Ram? That's ridiculous. It's the base engine, too. Those prices bought a diesel tractor trailer truck a few short years ago. These manufacturers and dealers are out of line. This is also why the dealership model is dying.
