I bit the bullet and bought a whole home generator because living in a hurricane prone location, if required to evacuate I needed something that would fire up and keep the house air conditioned, freezers and refrigerators running, preserving our food if I’m not around. I also didn’t want to have to get out in the storm during hurricane winds and rain setting up, plugging in and starting the generator…I do have a 2500w dual fuel inverter generator for other activities, so having both is a win win in my book. As a backup to a backup I also have solar, you’ve got to cover all bases👍 Honda generators are pricey but are really great generators! Great review!👍

Love seeing this review, for those that don't know, SE Michigan is serviced by DTE Energy, who is (at least to my research) consistently in the top 5 routinely for power outages. So its refreshing to see someone post about generators or standby generators in the car community. It'll be interesting to see how the prices fluctuate on those now that Ford started the trend of EV's and even FHEV trucks acting as portable generators (At this moment still a Ford Employee so I only know the Ford application 😅). Unfortunately this solution isn't for someone in an apartment complex for gasoline, I myself have been dabbling with the thought of picking up a Jackery which uses solar power, but that money could be better spent in saving for a house down-payment. But again this is dependent on how summer goes next year probably. Anyways keep on trucking Chris, loving the Honda week of information (I might have a good surprise for you in photo & video form come Thursday).

I’d be interesting in a part 2, where you show how more details on how it’s connected to your house. Transfer switch or interlock kit? Would also be curious if you’re able to run the house AC, in the event of a summer power outage.

I have a couple of solar rechargeable batteries but after a major hurricane you can expect a few days of overcast making solar impractical. I use the EU3200I to quickly recharge each of these batteries. The big one can run the refrigerator for more than 24 hours and the small one runs my internet and tv if necessary. I can run other things directly off the Honda generator if necessary. The portability is excellent and the quiet is necessary in a neighborhood.

Electric start would be a nice edition to the fuel injection engine. Maybe have a wheels with a handle inside the unit itself

@@rw9737 wouldnt say that. The gens i worked with didnt have timing belts or chains . Small ones use gears like the gx160kx. It overall though less pain in the ass to work on compared to yamaha havin different bolt sizing for every panel makin it a pain in the ass for my mechanics to fix

Hona generators are the very best most efficient that will provide clan power. I have Honda Generators that are over 20 years ole an only changed oil.

Champion is not as quiet, not as efficient, and not as reliable as a HONDA generator. The Honda eu2200 inverter is only $1099.00

Would it be possible to explain how you connect it with your electrical panel? I have a similar generator and I didn’t found any way to wire a 120v generator to an electrical panel. I am such a fan of your videos!!! Thanks from Québec,Canada!

The electrician could only wire it into one phase of the electrical panel. So half the switches work and we had to move stuff around to prioritize what got generator power and what didn’t. That’s my basic understanding of what we had to do at least…

I would build a reasonably sized heat resistant / fireproof baffle box to set behind the exhaust to capture the majority of the sound emitted if I was using this in a suburban setting. Many of you might roll your eyes at this, but if you’ve ever lived next door to a cRaZy neighbor who calls the police over every little thing, or flings dog poop over the fence into your yard in retaliation, it’s best to just avoid that headache altogether. 😉

Get a Reliance manual transfer switch. I have two Honda EU2200's and I installed a Reliance 306LRK at my home. I can power six 120v circuits, which is all I need for an outage.
