After you changed the fluid with amsoil do you wait 30,000 to do the next transmission fluid change
@midwestsynthetic4 жыл бұрын
30,000 is a good interval for a pan drop fluid filter change. AMSOIL recommends: "Normal Service: Follow the vehicle manufacturer's normal-service drain interval. Severe Service: Double the vehicle manufacturer's severe-service drain interval." I tend to be conservative, it's a lot easier to change fluid than transmissions. For the Honda in the video, going forward I'll probably change it more frequently with a single drain and fill. That doesn't have a filter, no pan drop, so it's simple as an engine oil change. Do you change the fluid after 100 miles because the Amsoil and Honda fluids are not compatible?

Thanks the the question. Here's what AMSOIL states on the FAQ page: "Is it required that all of the transmission fluid be removed before adding AMSOIL synthetic transmission fluid? Answer: No. AMSOIL synthetic transmission fluids are compatible with petroleum and synthetic transmission fluids and can be used to top-off transmission fluid levels. However, when conducting a transmission fluid change, most of the fluid in the automatic transmission will be replaced with the new fluid." You will of course want to use the AMSOIL product that's compatible with your particular equipment. You don't get all of the fluid replaced on a single drain and fill so the repeated drain and fills are the easiest way for the home gamer to swap out a majority of the fluid.

Thanks for the question. Answer: No. AMSOIL synthetic transmission fluids are compatible with petroleum and synthetic transmission fluids and can be used to top-off transmission fluid levels. However, when conducting a transmission fluid change, most of the fluid in the automatic transmission will be replaced with the new fluid." For the car in the video, the service history was unknown and most likely still had the original factory fill. I wanted the majority of the fluid replaced with AMSOIL which is why there are multiple drain and fills. Additional drain and fills are the simplest way to swap out more fluid, especially where there is a drain plug (vs. pan drop).

Most newer car owners who do tranny fluid at home will do over a period of 20,000 to 30,000 miles. So do 1st time drain and fill 1/3 of capacity. Drive car as usual and after 10,000 miles do 2nd drain & fill. Drive as usual and after 15,000 - 20,000 do 3rd drain and fill. This is recommended if your vehicle is under 50,000 miles. If your vehicle has over 50,000 miles and a tranny drain & fill has never be done or your not sure if it has ever been done then it’s suggested to do at least 2 drain & fills at one shot. So drain and fill. Drive car for 20 to 30 minutes to allow gears to shift and allow new fluid to work itself through transmission. Return home and do 2nd drain & fill. Drive car as usual for 10,000 to 15,000 miles and then do 3rd drain & fill. And if you really want to do preventative maintenance to keep transmission running very very very long time, do 1 tranny fluid drain & fill every 25,000-30,000 miles after completion of the initial 3 drain and fills.Your car transmission will have a long life. One other recommendation I would make is to purchase a container with liquid measurement marks. I got a gallon size from Amazon. It shows quart measurements, liter measurements and gallon. Use such a container to measure transmission liquid you drain out. Then put in exactly what you drained out. In most cases you will avoid overfill or under fill by measuring what you take out. This can also be used for motor oil or gear oil such as your rear differential fluid. By the way, if you have a sealed transmission, no transmission fluid dipstick, you will most likely need to do an overflow drain when doing the drain and fill. It’s an extra step that requires to drain any overflow by starting the car and allowing tranny fluid to warm up to a specific temperature range and then draining overflow. Sounds harder than it is but the extra step just adds about 10 to 15 minutes to the project. Can use a digital heat temperature gun online for less than $30. This will allow you to take temperature of transmission oil pan surface simply by pointing the device and pressing the trigger. Or you can purchase an obd device which will give you almost an exact transmission fluid temperature. But those particular obd devices will cost over $200. And most importantly do online research related to your specific car. And always get information from at minimal 3 resources to ensure accuracy of data or information. Due diligence!!!

@midwestsynthetic3 жыл бұрын
A full exchange would be the most practical if it's possible. Always make sure you're using a fluid compatible with your application. I'm not aware of any situations where you can get every last drop out. The closest would probably be something like some older Fords that have a drain plug on the torque converter so you can drain that too after a pan drop. You use more fluid with a drain and fill but the drain plug (vs. dropping the pan) makes it easy.
