From my experience, the metal caps can get water/moisture inside them which causes corrosion, then leads to the increase in resistance. I do know that the NGK ones use ceramic resistors inside, and similar to the STENS replacement caps, should have a resistance reading of under 5K ohms. What bothers me is the official Honda GX160 service manual states a reading of 7.5k-12.5k ohms on the spark plug cap is acceptable. Yet all the new Honda plug caps I've ever tested (OEM NGK, STENS etc...) are all under 5k ohms. I linked a similar video where a spark plug cap on another gx160 that tested at 10k ohms caused the engine to shut down, but only once it got hot. I've even tested dirt bikes that had no spark, and found that the plug cap had so much resistance, it prevented current flow from the coil to the spark plug.

I have a Champion generator with a similar spark plug cap. I will ohm it out now, because it runs for a while and then shuts down. Ignition coil is good. Thanks for the help.

Once I learned about this issue, I always check now, as it's quick enough to pull the plug cap and test.

I've got a GX200 that idles and even can take half throttle under no load. Any throttle higher and it stalls. I thought carb so I disassembled, cleaned real good and reassembled. No change. I was ready to buy a new carb but thought I'd check KZbin. So glad I did. I took a ohm reading on mine and it was 9000. Bought a Stens from Amazon and installed. Runs like brand new. Can't thank you enough for posting this fix. Liked and subscribed. Never would even come close to thinking this would be faulty.

My air compressor is a modified 8 gallon jenny 2 stage gas wheel barrow compressor that I have converted to a 30 gallon tank. Basically dropped the old deck plate on a newer 30 gallon. I like your videos. Help much needed. I have contacted local compressor repair company and no response. Compressor idled ran at full speed it only had a fuel leak out of the bowl. I purchased the unit for 300. I purchased a new carburetor replacement for a 10hp honda as PREVIOUS owner upgraded. I did have to use the old carburetor needle valve I think its called in the carburetor as I couldnt get to compressor to start with the valve that came with the replacement carb. I live in salt lake city utah. After changing to the old valve the engine starts and runs idles very well. Now i have my air compressor pretty well set up. I had my unit running idling and ran through its cycles and worked great. I did notice that I had worn out belts. I replaced the belts and also compressor pump oil and engine oil. I recently ran my air compressor and was working fine now my air compressor will not build air pressure and I started to get smoke out of the right side pump head where the air goes through cross over hose I want to call it that then ts and mates with the main hose that then hooks up to the tank. Being that I upgraded the tank I changed my original hose that hooks up to the tank. I did not change the T or other cross over hose. Now im wondering if since I did see excess carbon in the T fitting. I mean like made the interior dimensions of the 3/4" combination T into like a 3/8" fitting. I only didnt change it because I wanted to find the correct replacement so I wouldnt have to use Bushings. Im wondering if the air compressor is smoking due to excess carbon build up would that be a good assumption? Please message me back if possible... dunno if you can post this but my email is tylergoodrich1451@gmail.com

Does it matter that your multimeter cable is touching the table during your testing....not sure if if the table would cause a faulting reading....kinda curious...

What's the purpose of having resistance in the connector in addition to a resistor plug? Personally I use a non resistor plug whenever I can.

I have a Honda GX160 that starts with a starter and it runs, then it randomly shuts off but it starts right back up. If I unplug the cut off Wire to the coil it'll run and not stop. But it won't shut off unless you put The Wire back together like sensing it's low in oil, but it's not low in oil. Should I change oil???

Just tested my cap on a GX120 mounted on a core aerator. Problem Im having was it would constantly die at any rpm other than idle. Took apart the carb, and cleaned it with no change. I was almost ready to just get a new engine until I came across this. I just tested my cap and it’s reading 12500ohms. Got a new stents replacement cap on order. Hopefully it solves the mystery. Thank you in advance if it does

Thanks for this video, I believe this may be the exact cause for my sudden issue on my little wonder push blower with a Honda GX 270, it tries to run but just can’t build momentum to stay running then just acts like it runs out of breath so to speak…! It like tries to keep going for like 5 or 6 seconds and just comes to a stop … !

Tried this on gx 200 only revving with choke on. Btw this is being run on a mini bike so different throttle setup. However I’m getting a reading of 9.75 resistance so I think I have same problem.
