I can confirm that the tiny airbox thing does just hang there, also it can be opened, and inside is a foam filter that has commonly turned mush!

Thank you. Just what I needed to see before I embarked on my carb mission. My Haynes manual couldn't have been less helpful. This however, is gold dust. Thank you, again!

Excellent vids. Part 1 and 2. I seem to have quite a fast drip of fuel coming from somewhere under the carb 3 and 4 and it drips down off the fuel pipe that connects to the fuel tap. The bike has been sitting about 3 year. It was fine b4 that. I'm thinking a seal has dried up and been compromised. Watching your vid has gave me confidence to go strip and check the seals and now also give all the jets and general condition a check and clean up. My throttle had also lost its "snap back" and after watching this I think I know what that will be now so can address that on the butterfly valves. So thanks for taking the time to edit and post this.

top job colonel. good thing you let the fuel out before joggling them round. those fuels nowadays are not the best, the green snot see it all the time.

Thanks for both of your videos. I recently got a PC34 that stood since 2014. It only runs with choke on so I assume the Carb is in need of maintanance. Your vid gave me the confidence to perform the maintenance/cleaning of the carb.

If you don't mind Scott, can you tell me how many turns your mixture screws are at. Mine were all two and half turns out. Just out of interest really as I note the turns in this video but of course each bike is different. They are buggers to adjust once carb is back on the bike. I'm in Swansea and have a 1999 Hornet. It is bogging down on hills and I'm still working on it. Had the carbs off twice now. Cheers.

@@darrenrichards4840 after all my fiddling and taking apart the bike 9 times and spending money on service, and parts to try and find my problem I finally found the issue was the petrol tap, it was leaking slightly but dumping petrol straight into the second cylinder so make sure you service your petrol tap too, The kit is available on ebay for about 21 quid, I've set all my screws to between two and a quarter, the second cylinder is two and half it runs amazing now, Just wish I knew about the petrol tap before I replaced everything else

Cheers for that. Same for me with the fuel tap, mine was leaking at the seal and I failed to repair it so ended up importing a new one from Japan at £130, ouch but I was pleased to find one as looked all over UK suppliers. I'll be cleaning the carbs again and I have a leak at the sparkplug too (oil at plug seat) so I'll need to sort that gasket out. Also have a serious air mixture problem. Haven't looked at the bike since last autumn but will put time to it before the summer is out. Thanks for reply and good to hear that yours is running fine, incentive for me.

@@darrenrichards4840 it can be very off putting repairing a bike especially when there doesn't seem to be an answer for something that can be so simple, I couldn't find a tap rubber kit for the hornet 600 either but the cbr 900 fireplace rubber kit has two rubbers more than what's needed but it's easily found on ebay

Brilliant video. I needed to get my Hornet running so I can sell it and this video made life very easy. Does anyone know what a yellow, V-reg Hornet with 3500 genuine miles on it, in great condition, worth?

Good morning, dear Sir, I watched your very good videos carefully, because I have an identical Hornet which runs on 3 cylinders... This is the 1st cylinder, which despite the spark from the spark plug, remains cold in the exhaust! (According to the digital infrared thermometer). This is a motorcycle that has not been ridden for more than six years, and has been stored who knows how. I tried carburetor and gasoline cleaners, without result; replacement of spark plugs, filters, etc. I will probably have to clean the carbs like yours, to remedy this perhaps... If not, do you have another solution please? A+ B

Whats the factory setting for the idle screws?
@TwinTimber

Good video … Any idea what the yellow 5 lobed knob is for on the carbs. I hornet would not idle correctly and I adjusted the yellow knob while it was running and it fixed it. Is there a spifick position it needs to be. I managed to squeeze my hand in to adjust it thankd
@davidmustard2583
@davidmustard2583 2 жыл бұрын
If I remember rightly, yes that's the tick over adjustment. Carb bikes tend to have it somewhere accessible as you normally have to adjust it regularly, as the climate changes etc. 👍
@thecolonelscustoms8302

Yes I think that's the one. Just needs adjusting to suit the climate.

I'm having a problem. I messed around with that yellow knob too much and my bike won't start. I tried turning it all the way in and out and everywhere inbetween and nothing. Starts when choke is in roughly and shuts off when i turn the choke off. Any ideas?

The yellow center knob is the idle adjustment. It opens the throttle slightly. Once warm, you set the idle using that knob to 1400rpm (on my CB600F4). You can adjust the idle in different climates and altitudes but you really should be adjusting the pilot fuel screw for that. The idle screw can cover up problems such as dirty carbs or improper pilot settings. Turn the pilot screws in 1/4-1/2 turn for high altitude adjustment. However, on my US CB600F4, the pilot fuel screws are tamper-proof "D" screwheads and are a HUGE pain to get to with the carbs on the bike. You would need a specialized right angle tool.

Can you tell me if the smaller vacuum hose that runs across the top of the carbs that's like a long U shape stay open on one end? I took mine apart without realizing if it stood open or connected somewhere but I dont see where it could connect. Can you help?

Hi Anthony, Its a while ago since I worked on this bike and I no longer have access to it. I can't remember exactly but I believe the pipe is some form of breather pipe, does it not connect to the front of the air box somewhere near the top. Sorry I cant be of any more help. Kind regards, Dave
