Toyota DOES NOT own part of Mazda. They traded stock to start their assembly plant in the US. Mazda gave 5% to Toyota, and Toyota gave 2.4% to Mazda. One would say that 2.4% of Toyota is valued more than 5% of Toyota. So Mazda has more stock value in Toyota than Toyota has in Mazda. To correct your statement, you should say Mazda owns part of Toyota.

He hardly ever has anything good to say about any Nissan, but I know people who have them and love them. Both of our remaining Nissans are Altimas with CVT transmissions, neither of the 3 have broke down on us. The one that we used to have with the least mileage when we got rid of, it was at 126,000 miles. It was wrecked. We still have the other two Altima’s. One of them has over 220,000 miles (2009) and still going strong. The other one has 193,000 miles (2014) and is still going strong. Hondas aren’t as good as they used to be. I would grab a Nissan or I would get a Honda these days. I see them as equal in quality. I’ve not had a Honda, but I would take one, but they are still not as good as they used to be. I love my Nissans. I have one Altima right now (2014). Almost 200,000 miles of trouble free mileage. My daughter has one with over 220,000 miles on it and it is a 2009 only needing some new coils replaced, not all at once (about $50 or $60 a piece at the parts store). I'm not sure of the reason for your antipathy for Nissan. I have owned Altimas, Maximas, and Pathfinders and experienced no issues whatsoever. I have friends and relatives who have Nissan without issue. Does the US get second rate Nissans? Nissans are everywhere around here. Maybe it's a US thing.

The new ones have a reputation for being garbage, but I had a 1994 nissan altima I bought for 500 bucks and drove it for 3 years before it became a rusted out death trap. Still started right up, drove it to the junk yard.

Had a problem with the brakes on a Prius. Took it to a local dealer (only dealers can work on them per a local independent mechanic) and they didn't fix the problem after $1,000. Took it to Longo Toyota and they fixed it first time. $2,500. But after a couple months it (the brake pump) started leaking. Took it back and they replaced it free of charge with a new unit. Worked fine ever since. Also bought my 08 Tundra from Longo and after about 165K the dash lit up like a christmas tree. I happen to be working in the LA area so I took it to Longo and they fixed it in one day. There's some fuel injection pumps for smog that were warranteed for 150K miles (I didn't know about it) so it cost me around $2K. Pricy but it was fixed right the first time. I do most my own work (radiators, water pumps, shocks, etc.) but some things I need to take to a mechanic. I appreciate Longo fixing it right and standing behind their work. Hey, if a dealer gives good service (and many don't) I will give them a plug.

FYI..post world war 2: In Japan, companies often own small stakes in their competitors through a system called "keiretsu," where businesses within a group cross-hold shares, creating a network of interconnected companies that can sometimes appear to lessen competition within an industry; essentially, companies have interests in their competitors, although the holdings are usually small and meant to foster cooperation and stability rather than outright control. Japan once had six major keiretsu-Mitsui, Mitsubishi, Sumitomo, Fuyo, Sanwa, and Dai-Ichi Kangyō Bank (DKB) Group-known as the “Big Six.” They developed in the second half of the 20th century from different historical origins. A keiretsu is a conglomeration of companies across various sectors, including banks and trading companies. Mitsubishi, Mitsui, Sumitomo, Fuyo, DKB Group, and Sanwa are the six major keiretsu. Nissan Motor is a member of the Fuyo Keiretsu, and Toshiba is a member of the Mitsui Keiretsu.

The toyota dealership definitely used the cheap cat on his truck because that was the only part the insurance company would pay for. On top of paying a fraction of the labor required to do the job. So its a gigantic cluster by the dealerships/insurance companies doing piss poor work just to get the vehicle by before the warranty period is up.

Main reason I think Japan pushed for this merger is they don't want Foxconn/Taiwan to take over Nissan from Renault. Foxconn did put on hold their bid after awhile. Maybe Honda would transform Nissan into a more reliable automaker and also make Mitsubishi more popular. Platform sharing I hope won't weaken the 3 brands. The pride of the engineering team at Nissan I think would have to calm down when Honda starts restructuring and sharing ideas.

@michaelcarson121Ай бұрын
I've had good luck with mine. 97 Altima sold with 285k+ miles to crackheads who drove it another 4-5 years then totaled it. 2009 Infiniti g37 with 235k miles that got totaled when dodge truck backed into me in parking lot. Both car ran perfectly smooth and never had any issues besides some minor stuff and maintenance. I now have a 2019 Armada with 74k miles and absolutely love it and never any issues besides stupid washer fluid sensor so I just unplugged it. This 5.6 v8 is a beast 💪. I do all my own repairs and maintenance so maybe people don't take care of their cars and that's why they fail.

It's extremely unlikely that Nissan will be elevated to Honda quality levels. The most realistic outcome is that the overall combined quality of the merged company will be somewhere in between current Honda and Nissan quality. Probably closer to current Nissan quality. I can see this being a situation similar to how the influence of McDonnell Douglas dragged Boeing's quality down after their merger.
