Toyota DOES NOT own part of Mazda. They traded stock to start their assembly plant in the US. Mazda gave 5% to Toyota, and Toyota gave 2.4% to Mazda. One would say that 2.4% of Toyota is valued more than 5% of Toyota. So Mazda has more stock value in Toyota than Toyota has in Mazda. To correct your statement, you should say Mazda owns part of Toyota.

I have 2019 altima from new 100 miles now 35 ,000 and a 2010 sentra 135, 500 ...everyone say this and that no problems with both cars... did trans fuild change on altima, never did it on sentra...most reliable cars just drive it like a Nissan and not like a corvette.

Please folks, as we have had three Nissans in my family (now we have two), don’t believe Scotty Kilmer all the time! He hardly ever has anything good to say about any Nissan, but I know people who have them and love them. Both of our remaining Nissans are Altimas with CVT transmissions, neither of the 3 have broke down on us. The one that we used to have with the least mileage when we got rid of, it was at 126,000 miles. It was wrecked. We still have the other two Altima’s. One of them has over 220,000 miles (2009) and still going strong. The other one has 193,000 miles (2014) and is still going strong. Hondas aren’t as good as they used to be. I would grab a Nissan or I would get a Honda these days. I see them as equal in quality. I’ve not had a Honda, but I would take one, but they are still not as good as they used to be. I love my Nissans. I have one Altima right now (2014). Almost 200,000 miles of trouble free mileage. My daughter has one with over 220,000 miles on it and it is a 2009 only needing some new coils replaced, not all at once (about $50 or $60 a piece at the parts store). I replaced the last one myself, easy fix.

Look what happened to Boeing after they “merged” with McDonnell Douglass. The crappy company’s management (McDonnell Douglas) were sneakier than the good company’s management (Boeing) and the bad company ended up on top. What do you think of Boeing nowadays? Honda should make sure that all of Nissan’s management is fired, laid off, or retired before they merge.

I personally think the Frontier is a good truck and I hope Nissan keeps a manual transmission in the Versa or another car. Stop it with the CVTs. Even if they become Honda CVTs.

For many EVs, they have a battery conditioning function to essentially bring the battery to a safer temperature range by the time you are ready to use it, since it will damage the battery if you put a heavy load on it while it is extremely cold, and users likely won't want their car accelerating like a pedal bicycle for the first few minutes if their morning drive. Beyond that, the colder temperature can often lead to the voltage which will also reduce the effective capacity, since the conditioning does not bring it to the ideal range, instead it just brings it to the edge of a safe range. If it is 5f outside, it may bring the battery to 32f, thus allowing the car to offer its advertised performance, and not damage the battery.

I'm not sure of the reason for your antipathy for Nissan. I have owned Altimas, Maximas, and Pathfinders and experienced no issues whatsoever. I have friends and relatives who have Nissan without issue. Does the US get second rate Nissans? Nissans are everywhere around here. Maybe it's a US thing.

Honda buying Nissan and Mitsubishi actually makes sense. Look at all the non car related things that those two are in that honda wants a slice of. Nissan and Mitsubishi have many other industries outside of vehicles but to get a foot in the door maybe this is how honda has to do it.

Main reason I think Japan pushed for this merger is they don't want Foxconn/Taiwan to take over Nissan from Renault. Foxconn did put on hold their bid after awhile. Maybe Honda would transform Nissan into a more reliable automaker and also make Mitsubishi more popular. Platform sharing I hope won't weaken the 3 brands. The pride of the engineering team at Nissan I think would have to calm down when Honda starts restructuring and sharing ideas.

I've had a couple of Nissan over the years, and they were very good cars. Nissan was also a strong competitor for Honda, and had a good line-up of stylish and reliable vehicles. Hopefully Honda can bring Nissan back up to where they used to be.

I think a Honda-Nissan merger wouldn't be a disaster as it is perceived. Where Nissan really shines is their trucks and SUV's - especially their diesel version in other parts of the world. Honda doesn't have trucks other than the Ridgeline (which they sell mostly in the US/Canada) and they have no diesel trucks like Nissan Navarra and Toyota Hilux in Asia/Europe. Honda-Nissan merger will complete each other and can compete against Toyota on all segments.

If Honda outright buys Nissan it IMO could actually be a good thing for both companies. Honda could get rid of the Nissan transmission problems (Good for both companies) and get the Nissans 370 + larger SUV's from Infinity and Nissan Titan pickup which is an area where Honda is lacking.
