I 100% agree with your thoughts about a CPAP. A few years ago I thought probably less than 1% of people used them. After talking to thousands of customers I would say it's more like 10%. Pretty common really. Nothing to be ashamed or in denial of because healthy sleep is important!

Ha! So many CPAP comments! I’m proud to bring awareness to it. Sleep Apnea could really snow ball someone’s health. Not getting good sleep leads to low energy levels, which leads to gaining weight, and then all sorts of bad news. I was told that sleep apnea takes years, maybe decades off your life. I’m so glad I have my condition treated.

Thanks for the kind words Pony Richards 🙏. Baby steps are the way to go! Doing a shakedown trip is really the only way to know if a system works out. The Passport is 2.5 years old and I’m just now considering a RTT. It was a big decision because I was so happy with my Solo build, but my 2 person build is lacking, and a RTT will really tie everything together.

Couldn't tell from the video, but, if you're not, get a 12V power supply/cord for your ResMed. When I'm camping, not having power going through the invertor on the battery pack greatly increases my runtimes since its direct power, no invertor/heat etc, loss, supplied to the CPAP. Also, a portable (ie. lower power) unit will also save battery. (Had Sleep Apena since I was a kid and was always in shape...in my case, its just a matter of how my throat is built...life saving & life changing for sure!)

Solid Video! I think a solid video would be the break down of the different modes they have for the passport/pilot/ridgeline. I have a pilot and ive kinda dug down into the snow, mud, and sand mode but it would be sweet on what modes you use for instance going up river beds and such. I noticed in some of your videos you mention about going into S mode and use your paddle shifters. If you could dive down on how you approach an obstacle and what modes are best to use would be sweet gives me a good idea on how I can better idea on how to approach table tops and such. Really enjoyed your videos and because of that ive joined your group on FB. Of course second what you said about what to purchase for overlanding using an AWD. Hey Kris, I found the vinyl wrap on the internet and at the time metro restyling had the best prices. Regarding my Cpap machine, I use a power station to keep it running all night. Cpap machines don't use too much juice, my old 500 WH (watt hour) went from 100% to 70% overnight. Now I have a 1440 WH and I use it to power my portable refrigerator, Cpap, fans or whatever, it has alot of juice. It recharges through Solar at night. With the setup you see in this video, I was able to get about 22-23 mpg highway going 70 mph. In the city I drive spirited, so my city MPG sucks 🤣, it’s at around 15-16mpg. Since the Passport is rated to get 24 MPG highway, I’m not sure how much my mods truly affected them. I hear of some people getting up to 29 MPG, so did I lose 5 mpg? Yeah, sound about right. I was expecting 24MPG, so I don’t feel bad. I had my Passport lifted 2 inches at 8K miles and then had the 3.5 inch kit installed at 51K. I currently have 81K miles. I’m not sure how warranty is affected because I never had to use it. I have a dedicated video about the 3.5” lift. Lots of info, it’ll answer a lot of your questions

@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 3 жыл бұрын
I stole it from someone else :). Just sharing ideas and paying it forward! Yes, and I'd choose high quality plywood that won't splinter off and puncture your inflatable mattress. Since I do Solo camping, I installed am accordion hinge, so it swings out of the way to only cover one side. Or you can just make two separate boards, but it wont be as stable.

@@JonDZ_Adventuring lol I'm pretty sure I've seen another youtuber with a more basic version. But thanks! I solo camp as well, but I'd like the option, so I'll probably do what you did as well. If you don't mind me asking btw, didn't you have a luno life mattress in your earlier vids? If so, what made you go away from that?
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question Dalton. I would recommend the Luno life mattress because it’s made of tough material. I just had issues with the valves, which I believe they addressed in version 2.0. The main reason I went away from the Luno life mattress is because it’s 5” tall fully inflated. it’s advertised as 4”, which it would be if it wasn’t fully inflated, but if you don’t full inflate it, it’s sooooo noisy and squeaky. The thermarest Mattress is made of high quality materials and at the very most, sounds like crumpled paper when you run it under inflated. I’m 270 lbs, so I need to inflate things to get support. So the thermarest mattress is 3 inches inflated, which gives me 2 inches more vertical room. If you’re vehicle has lots of vertical height in the cargo area then I think it wouldn’t matter, but I struggled jumping to the back like I did in this video. You can see I had no room to spare.
@JDS-Dalton
@JDS-Dalton 3 жыл бұрын
@@JonDZ_Adventuring thanks again! I've got the 2.0 version myself and just wanted to make sure there wasn't some critical issue. Glad to hear the main reason is the height since that doesn't really bother me.

@@JonDZ_Adventuring just went ahead and got it set up, just like yours but without the tape at the moment. I did get pretty high quality oak plywood, and sanded it up, and I can already tell it'll be so much better than using storage bins wedged between the seats or the inflatable cube.

Hi Jon! I was looking for ways to set up a 2-person mattress in the back of our Honda Passport, and came across this video. I'm now a new subscriber by the way, and look forward to binge-watching the rest of your videos. In this one, you mentioned that the width of your air mattress was 50 inches wide, and the Passport has 48 inches between the wheel well. So you needed to do "a little cutting" to make it fit. @@bruceyyyyy I saw that episode too! And left a comment about that 🤣. It’s bewildering because the Pilot and Ridgeline have always been tested to do so well, even better than Ford. Back when they had Gold Mine hill a Ridgeline got up so easy, but the Ford Expediton with the GKN a twinster (same AWD system as the Bronco Sport Badlands) had the rear diff overheat and go into limp mode. Really easily too!!! You know TFL hates CVTs, I think they just tried to save face by trying to say the Outback wilderness is more offroad capable than a Passport. I can’t say that the Passport is better than the Bronco sport, but what I’ve seen of how it performed on Fins N things, it appears the Passport is noticeably more capable. Must be the V6 and how the proprietary RDU system performs, and to a lesser degree the better gearing. Yeah, the Cherokee Trailhawk is in a class all it’s own. I like the thermarest mattress better. The only issue is that it’s a tight fit between the wheel wells. I actually took a razor blade to the wheel carper wheel well so that it would fit properly. The thermarest is a shorter profile and more comfortable. The Luno life mattress is taller (less headroom), makes a noisy rubbery sound, but the material is really really tough, so you can count on it to last. I really needed the head room.

@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t give you flak! I love being part of the “overlanding” community, and you can drive whatever you want! So, most unibody crossovers can only take 2 inch strut spacers. If you go higher, than the subframe will need to be spaced as well to compensate for a more severe axle angle 📐. I’m not familiar with the 2011 Sportage suspension setup, but in some vehicles the geometry gets out of whack, and you might not end up with full minimum clearance gains. Sometimes aftermarket support might be hard to come by. The Russians love their KIAs, so you may be able to find a kit from them.

How was your Honda warranty affected by the lift kit? Thinking about buying a passport and lifting
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t know, I have 76K miles on my odometer (really 81K because of my 2.5” taller tires) so I’m well out of warranty. Nothing has broke. BUT! Definitely consider a dedicated off-roader as a vehicle too! I use to drive a FJ cruiser, I just hated the daily drive in it. As you can see from this video, I’m kind of a big dude, so fitting into a Tacoma, 4runner and Jeep isn’t so comfy. I love my Passport, but it might not be the best fit for you. Something like a Jeep or 4runner might actually be a better fit for you. If you drive spirited, and the onroad daily drive is important to you, the Passports for you!

I have a 2019 Ridgeline with the old 6 speed automatic. Do you happen to know if it’s a good transmission for do the trail that you do?
@nightryder21
@nightryder21 3 жыл бұрын
It will be hard to hit some areas because of the gear ratio. But if you are interested in adventuring/camping then just go around certain obstacles. Jinn has video around hear with an older pilot with a 6 speed and you'll be able to see the difference in transmission on a relatively mild "obstacle"
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 3 жыл бұрын
Just as long as you’re not trying to hit steep prolonged trails, you’ll be just fine. There’s plenty of places you could go. Also, you might want to look into upgrading your transmission cooling. Get a unit that has a built in fan. You could even run multiple coolers. I’m not terribly familiar with these systems, but check out @Hondapilotoverland he’s running two transmission coolers.

I got tested 3 times for sleep apnea. I don't have it but man am I always tired.
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 3 жыл бұрын
When I got tested they told me I had a 3% sleep efficiency 😖. Then they said, we will need the loaner CPAP machine back, you’ll receive your machine in 3 months. I was like… WTF? I kept the loaner until they threatened to sue me and then I wrote Kaiser a nasty email about how if I die in a car accident because I fell asleep behind the wheel, my death would be their fault. I used the test results of a 3% sleep efficiency as leverage 😃

@@JonDZ_Adventuring I did the at home test. They said it was inconclusive. I did the test at their lab and they said to follow-up with the sleep doctor. COVID hit so it took a while to get though. The doctor said I was borderline. I lost about 10 pounds between the two tests, by the time I spoke to the doctor, I lost another 5 pounds. He said I might not need it anymore, lets do a 3rd test. 3rd test said no sleep apnea. To be fair, I don't feel as tire as before but part of me wanted to have sleep apnea so I could say yes, this is the problem and now I have a cure! lol

How does that awning attach to the roof rack?
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring Жыл бұрын
I bolted the L brackets to the cross bars. I drilled holes into the aluminum OEM crossbars. Sounds janky, but strong winds blew the awning and bent those L brackets 90 degrees. I used the Leverage of the awning arms to bend the brackets back. No issue.

what happened to the luno life air mattress?
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 3 жыл бұрын
Because it inflated to 5 inches when firmly pumped up, I lost too much head room. The Thermarest is 3 inches or so tall, made all the difference! Also, I had issues with the valves of the Luno life. As you can see, the thermarest valve system is solid! The material is made of magic! Very high end! I think these mattresses are the same price now too! BUT, unless you have 50 inches of width, the thermarest won’t fit.
