Doesn't get any simpler to rebuild but take in mind they had a leak not pump failure from running dry due to complete loss of fluid while driving .. if pump works and is not crazy noisy and only has a small leak then rebuild it when in doubt change it out . There are other places leaks occur main one is oring behind return line pipe will suck air and make noise pump noise but it's only air and easily fixed have a nice day

Agree completely about keeping the vanes "in place"... Much like piston & cylinders (if not new). Makes sense to me :) I have seen other videos where they are picked out and set aside like general hardware. Common sense would dictate that "your way" is the correct way. As each item is worn in and "homed" for lack of a better description, to it's original location and orientation. My world makes sense again. Thank you for the video.

Thank you! I bought my Honda Element a couple months ago from a guy who took really great care of it. He gave me a very well maintained service record with a stack of receipts. Mostly I've been really happy, except for the fact that he had the PS Pump replaced just a couple months before selling it to me, and he bought an aftermarket new pump that is terribly noisy. The fluid isn't frothing and the steering feels fine, it just whines like a cat in heat. From everything I've read, most aftermarket pumps are just crap, and getting one that sounds terrible is not uncommon. I'm looking to find and pull a PS pump from an Element in a U-Pick salvage yard and rebuild it, and your video gave me confidence to know what to look for in a salvageable one, and get it ready to install. Thank you!

Great video. I managed to replace everything except the o ring under the Allen head nut 😠 of course a gorilla torqued it on at the factory, they must have used locktight too 😂 impact didn't work, so I tried a 2 foot breaker bar. Stripped it out so I said screw it. My pump was leaking from behind the bearing, so hopefully the seal in there was my problem

Timely video! I just bought a 2013 Honda Pilot EX-L 4WD... I went to change the plugs, she has 114,000 miles and no record of a plug change... Found oil in the rear bank plug tubes, so wound up doing the front and rear valve cover gaskets, upper and lower intake, the tube grommets and new PCV valve. I noticed my power steering pump was a bit wet, and thought time for a new one, and they are not cheap. Going to head over to the Honda parts website and purchase me some o-rings! Thanks guys! On edit: Just ordered the parts online, Honda Parts Now, $38 delivered. A new pump, near $700! Thank you again!

thanks guys👍 I’m trying to clean up my 20yr old Rsx type s engine bay and my PS pump has fluid all over it (yet the fluid level never seems to go down) 🤔🤷‍♂️. I’ve had it for 3 years so maybe the hose was replaced and it leaked on the pump but I doubt it.. the hose looks old. I really didn’t wanna go aftermarket pump, so this is awesome. this weekend I’m gonna clean it and hopefully I’ll be able to see what’s going on or how bad it’s leaking and if so I’m gonna follow this video! You guys are awesome!

How do you plan on cleaning it? I was going to do what I've done for oil leaks which is wipe the worst off with cloth, then use brake cleaner to get the rest, as long as I've got hoses and belts protected from it. It's been a long time since I've done any work and wanna run this by others first.

Just a heads-up, I was verifying part numbers for an '05 Accord EX w/2.4L, AT and found two pumps offered (one superseded?) with a few different part numbers than you have listed. I'm not calling you out on the "many different models, but all the same seals and o-rings", but VTEC Academy may want to double check your part numbers...or those purchasing parts to double check what you're buying. Thanks for a helpful video!
@VTECAcademy

We aren't saying these part numbers work for all Hondas. We were illustrating that the basic parts are the same as the construction of the power steering pump is similar. It just so happened that the part numbers on an EM1 pump were the same. Always check for your specific application.
