I’ve been tossing in the whole 5 quarts for years. A half quart over or under will not harm anything. It’s called a Forgiveness Factor that the engineers built into vehicles. They realized people do let there oil levels go over some and under some.

Depends on which year. Newer ones use more.

You can place a bread bag over the filter before you unscrew it. The dirty oil and filter will be dropped in the bag. Saves the mess from removing the filter. Give it a try.

good idea to crack the filter loose first. That way if it's stuck and you cannot get it off, you can drive it to repair shop - without having to put oil back in.
@dgriffin60742 жыл бұрын
The oil filter is difficult to remove without making a mess. The bread bag over the filter is a great suggestion. I also noted that if I remove the right front wheel, the oil filter is much easier to access and less of a mess is almost guaranteed.

Thank you! I have a 2006 Honda Ridgeline that I bought new in January 2006. It has 305,000 miles on it. I do most of my own maintenance but I really enjoy your videos. I hope to get 500,000 miles on it. I have a problem with my power steering because it makes a noise when the temperature outside is cold. I am going to make a fluid change but may have to change the “O” rings Do you have a video on how to do that? I really enjoy your videos!

what type of oil filter do we use?
@jejeffries352310 жыл бұрын
I have a couple more steps before installing the new filter. Verify the old filter gasket isn't stuck to the filter mounting base and wipe it clean. Also apply a light film of new oil to the new filter gasket. I plan to use a 1/2" longer filter than the OE filter in hopes that the drool will hit the pan instead of anything else under there. But with only 340 miles on the vehicle that's a few thousand miles away. BTW, do you remember how many miles it was between oil changes?

did you loosen the oil plug previously because mine is on so tight , that i am scared to strip it . I know the oil plug bolt is made of good steel but even with an extension bar connected to it , it still will not break loose. The previous mechanic must of put it tighter than 92 ft lbs

GmGarlo spray some WD-40 or some other Nut Buster on there. Let it sit for a few hours so it does what it suppose to do. Use the correct ratchet socket so it doesn't slip. Make sure the ratchet isnt on an angle. Keep it straight on the bolt.
@arthursmith6437 жыл бұрын
GmGarlo squirt some WD-40 or any nut/bolt loosening oil around the edges of the bolt. Wait about a half hour then try sgain. It should come undone.

craigsclocks the valves are supposed to be adjusted at around 100,000 miles when the timing belt is due. Do not neglect that timing belt. There have a kit which includes the water pump tensioner and timing belt. If the belt breaks there goes the engine.

My Ridgeline is 2009. I have 60,000 miles. I just had my engine oil changed and the service provider used an oil blend. Seriously engine feels a little rough....is that my imagination? Should I just have it done again to the synthetic only?
@autoresource794210 жыл бұрын
theresmcg23 Honda says to use 5W-20 premium grade API Certified oil, preferably Honda Motor Oil. If other, make sure the API Certification seal says for For Gasoline Engines. You may use synthetic motor oil if it meets same requirements.........for myself, i use fully synthetic Mobil1 and engine runs excellent.........so question is, what oil is in your engine ? If not right one, replace ASAP, it can actually do damage.....and i believe you, you actually could hear the difference. Good Luck.

0/20 and 5/20 is recommended by Honda. Adding the other half quart will not harm the engine. Neither will being down a half quart. It's called a forgiveness level. Engineers know people maybe pour a little more in or be down a bit. No harm done either way. Use the correct weight oil. I don't know why he is using 5/30. No need to pre oil the filter but it won't hurt.no need to have the oil hot. Warm up a couple of minutes is plenty warm and will flow out just fine.
@lyndonmansell351 Жыл бұрын
Driven warm helps get all the sludge out. Correct level is important, engineers don't expect a one litre variance in oil level !

Steven Ybarra Place the handle of your wrench inside a pipe or use a ratchet handle inside the pipe. Longer handle It gives more leverage. Possible over tightening at last oil change.
@arthursmith6434 жыл бұрын
Why wait for the OLM to come on. Change the oil at least by 30 percent. Because that means 70 percent of the oil life is gone. If it’s at 20 percent that means 80 percent of the oil life is gone. I look at as the oil is the blood the oil filter is the kidneys the air filter is the lungs. Keep these as clean as you can and the vehicle will last a very very long time. You will go well over 200,000 miles with no problem with the engine.
