The S2000 is at a big disadvantage due to its normally aspirated engine and the need to build HP through high revs. The upside however is its superior handling and longevity giving it the ability to be driven at 10/10th's all day long. The engines are simply bulletproof unless you get a complete idiot behind the wheel that over reves it during quick downshifts. No real race is won in one lap, and this is where the S2000 really comes to life. Once past the competition so they can no-longer slow you down, you can keep it going full tilt through the turns where the other cars lose ground and eventually lap by lap you build up such a lead that no matter how fast the competition is on the straits you have a nice lead and can keep it all day long. Where the S2000 gets hurt is on course with few curves and really long straits. I owned a 2003 and a 2008 CR. The CR was one of the best handling cars ever designed for the track and after beating it to death all day long; you simply drove it home, washed it, changed the oil and waited anxiously for your next play date. A true collectible!!!!!!

Hi! Sorry for saying that, but this comparison is pointless.. I myself am an onwer of a "track-day spec" S2000 so I would had a good reason to be happy with this video, with an S2k humiliating the new TypeR and the RS, but that's not the case.. Clearly the drivers of the two hatchbacks don't push their cars (maybe they're learning the circuit (Dijon! what a track!) or they do not feel like pushing their cars. Nonetheless, S2k is a GREAT car and could have been a nice battle to watch there, but these guys did not push/drove their cars ;) S2000 driver is often off the throttle, downshifting, just because the other drivers are too slow :/

Well, you're probably right about the Civic's driver but I wouldn't be so sure about the Rs's driver : this car has wonderful engine, but the chassis sucks. I don't think this car could be faster on corners as it is on this video...

yep… that's how I remember my ride ;) the s2k is just an amazing machine… always undetstimated because of it's "lack" of torque… but the horsepower figure along with the perfect chassis and right amount of slide, make it a winner ;)

i really do not hope your trying to say that an s2000 is better around a track in some shape or form. look at those inside lines the fk2 was holding up tight . wile the focus was well way out wide.and you started to spin out. but u held well. if i had a new fk2 id be afraid to wreak it to. fk2 all day everyday still.... p.s i loveeee s2000s dont get me wrong. but with 2 pro drivers to use full abilty of cars the fk2 be long gone. amazing track car

Probably, since the 2 other cars are FI, which means more HP than an all motor s2k. But make the s2k HP on the same level then compare cars.

kevinJbreslin honda cl7 lol the focus is a nose heavy econo box with a fwd biased drivetrain. It has a turbo going for it. That's about it. The s2k is lighter, rwd, lower center of gravity and just a better platform for tracking.

Nah, those other cars center of gravity too tall, in corners they have to bleed speed or they lose control and spin or crash. S2000 very low profile and balanced, it attacks corners like exotic supercars.

i think the driver is just good at cornering.. prbably complemented by the s200's superb corner handling... during long stretch of straight line, the s2000 cannot keep up with the other 2 cars in front of him. Good driving, for sure :)

The s2k is one of a kind type special car but the horse power advantage on the Focus RS should have made it much faster. You could tell the Civic and Focus drivers just weren't driving well, lines were all over the place and cornering speed nowhere near the limit. A fair comparison this wasn't but still fun see the old S2k smoke cars. Sometimes owners of newer cars just don't drive them hard.

9000Redline I think you're right but the horsepower advantage of the RS isn't as great as it appears when weight is taken into account. The RS is packing 200 odd kg extra lard.

Yes, have owned my s2k for many years and done a fair bit of track driving. Good point about the Focus RS being heavy but it was obvious it fast a lot faster on the straights and out of corners. Good video to show driver mod is the best mod.

The CTR and FoRS clearly have the straight line advantage, but in the corners the S2000 is much much faster. I would bet that in a time attack battle the three cars would be very close but I'm giving the win the the S2000.

Really, this is a video of a tuned s2000 overtaking a focus when the focus slows for traffic. There's not much to see. We know the new civic is miles faster, because it is. Doesn't make it a good car, but obviously it's a lot quicker around a track.
