This makes me glad I grew up in the 60s and 70s when thing we're built well and lasted and could be fixed. I'd hate growing up today. Go show thanks Johnathan.

I had an early 70's CT70 that my best friend and I bought together completely disassembled , I think we were about 12 then.. it was in 4 milk crates.. we got it running and driving .We later bought another basket case CT70 H model the H was manual clutch and I sort of remember the exhaust pipe was different like yours is to clear the clutch release arm... We later bought a rolling chassis SL70 and swapped the engine into that, it was a conventional style dirt bike.... Man I miss those days!

Good times, CT70's are a blast to ride and fun to scoot around the trails and back roads.

Good video! My wife's car crapped out an I took her to work for 2 months on mine. I weigh 240lb and she a good bit less than that, but it ate up the 15mi ride like it was nothing. In Tucson traffic too. These are some of the most underrated bikes ever produced. Again good video!

I've got a green Ct 70, bought it at a yard sale for 100 dollars. I just recently pinched the throttle cable in the forks when i turned them and now I can't ride it till I get a new one. Seat is tore, dry rotted tires and no tail light or twist throttle( atc 70 throttle box), no title either. It's a rare 4 speed model. If I had a title I would make it street legal. One of the front shock is froze so there's no front suspension. It's a lot of work but it's worth it.

It's always something interesting with you Jonathan, no matter the project. Tip : don't. sit so far back on the seat next time you crack the throttle wide open. Like to see the video of it though. ha.

$725 for that project Trail 70? It sure sounds like a lot. I completely understand your affection or appreciation for it though because it was the first so called "motorcycle" that I ever owned. Other than that I had one or two minibikes. I wish I could remember something about those minibikes but being a kid, all I knew was it either ran or it didn't. I just remember the minibikes seemed to be a lot louder and much more likely to fail or to maybe hurt you. The Trail 79 though was very STOUT and STURDY. The Trail 70's were very well built.

I am pretty sure steel wool will buff the rust off of the handle bars. I have brought chrome back that looked that bad before with elbow grease and a package of steel wool. You got the bike looking real good. I thought it was worse at first but its not bad looking at all.
@papawnanabubby50057 жыл бұрын
$725 isn't bad at all. The Cushman scooter show at Portland IN draws all kinds, and these are very popular. Yours would bring more than the seven and a quarter. Our campground doesn't allow these, that's why we have a golf cart.

Not knowing how the seat cover was held on the Trail 70, I would never had worried about it coming loose. Knowing that small metal v's under the seat are holding the seat cover on, I would worry that the seat cover would come off. And being without knowledge, if the seat cover started to come off I would think, "Damn, the seat cover is busted, broken, fucked up." Sometimes my mental security is absolute when I don't know how tenuous a situation is. I mean, the brakes work but then they don't work so well. I mean, the difference between working and broken in my mind can be absolute when maybe the brakes need some fluid or the bike seat nears a minor fix. I never was a guy who was looking to fix stuff. I was an out of sight out of mind kind of guy. I still am half the time. I have to remind myself that maintenance is necessary to keep stuff from being "broken".

I had a apple red one, sat in my parents basement for years after I broke it, I found you could hold down on the shift lever rev up the engine and release to do a slide burn out they didn't have a clutch, and yes I did that one to many times broke the mag right off the end of the crank, dad wanted it gone gave it to a neighbor for nothing I wish he hadn't, I remember taking the cover off man them bolts philips head don't like to come out used a hammer impact to loosen, memories sigh.
