vtec is simple with less to go wrong. Amazing power bans. Love honda's 1.5L vtec. I'm getting 36 mpg with my 2008 honda FIT 1.5L vtec. This car has awesome power too!

Alex Fry correct although throughout all of their engines the profiles and ways in which the vtec work differ greatly.

Alex Fry yes before vtec engages the exhaust valve is still on a longer stroke than the intake. But that's ok as most efficient engines have larger exhaust valves. In this case the valves stroke is greater instead of larger diameter. Releasing 100% of combusted gasses is important during exhaust stroke.

VVT isn't the same thing. VTEC controls valve lift and duration, iVTEC is VTEC + VVT. Controlling valve lift, duration and timing

Correct. They let more gas and air (oxygen) when opened longer giving more power but on the expense of more gas consumption

The more "open" engine breathes better at high speed, that's why the valve opens deeper and longer. But to run a "radical cam" at idle, it's horrible for mileage and drivability; it has that uneven varuuUmp, varrUmp, varrUmp kind of idle like you've heard on funny cars and a few high-school kids with hot rods.

The Honda was the first Vitech the. They the domestics copy them the one works nice is the hemi 5.7 but cam got failure they didn’t designed it right

The hemi doesn't have variable lift, just variable cam phasing for valve timing. It's harder to find an engine without variable valve timing nowadays than with. The Tigershark engine, however, probably has one of the coolest variable valve timing/lift systems ever in Fiat's MultiAir 2. Parasitic loss is reduced with only a single camshaft and pumping losses are reduced with the ability to open and close valves at differe timing, lift height and multiple times in a single stroke.
