Thank you for the heads up on the recall. In 2022, I bought a 2020 TLX/Aspec/Tech, 3.5 V6, and it had 10,031 miles on it. This was around the time when no cars were available, so there was no question about if I should or shouldn't, because I'm a SoCal field social worker required to have a vehicle. It just hit 25,025 miles today; and I absolutely love my car. I appreciate how you put the information out there, no bells and whistles, just the facts 😂😊

This has nothing to do epa lol, this is an engineering/build issue. Specs are incorrect for the rod/rod bearings. Oil is oil, just do your routine maintenance and don’t drive like wanna be racer lol. Bottom line, Acura always had engine issues, from the early b18 4 cyl and the early j series v6 til now.

@@selfmade_tj3408 Yep, its common with early Honda motors. A recall like this though affecting so many years of Honda engines is very rare. They don't typically have these kinds of issues, especially plaguing customers for years. I don't believe it is a mfg issue either that they "just discovered" after 6+ years of making the engines? The reality is that they are pushed to use thinner and thinner oil to meet EPA regulations and this affects how much clearance the bearings need to have and also how much tolerance there is before it fails. To have them breaking rods and spinning bearings is an oiling issue. These issues are also common of other MFGs during the same Time frame such as Chevy and even some Toyota's.

Just a heads up, its the Honda J35Y6 engine. Acura doesn't produce a single engine. They just put a Acura name plate on it right before it leaves the Honda engine Plant. If you jump the car during cold weather it would start, but suck in limp mode. A few times sudden stop and went into limp mode 1st gear only while driving!!

Hello, I have this exact problem with my 2018 TLX. I noticed the knocking a few days before I got the recall notice. I took the car to an Acura dealer and the service manager confirmed it's part of the recall, that it's really knocking badly and i should not drive it. Now, my question is what does acura expect me ( us ) to do while we're waiting for parts. The recall notice says parts will be available spring of 2024. It's a bit hard to swallow that Acura expects 250,000 people to wait months for parts w/o some kind of rental compensation or loaners. I have seen on some sites where some owners have gotten loaners. I'm sure that's a "dealership" issue, as my dealer does not have the stock to provide a loaner ( he says ). This is my 3rd Acura , but may be my last. I may decide to trade the car in if i can find a dealer that will take it. I've contacted and have an open ticket with Honda Customer Service, but i'm getting a lot of "we'll get back to you in 3 to 5 business days !". call me very frustrated !

Your dealer is trash and can do better. My 2019 starting showing symptoms in early december but had not completely failed as of yet. I drove it to the dealer and they put me in a loaner right away and they went ahead and dropped the oil pan to inspect the bearings and found abnormal wear on all of them. 5 weeks later I have a new short block under warranty and im back on the road. I still have to come back early spring for inspection but im fine with that because I got a new engine out of this and if you are still in warranty you should too. You need to be firm with them and not let them try to push you around and get out of fixing your car. If you have to call your local news station, they love to do stories like this and expose bad businesses and I can assure you Acura will do whatever they have to do at that point in order to get you to shut up.

I bought a 2017 tlx with the V6 SH-AWD about 4 months ago. Had 90,000 miles on it and I didn't know about this issue. Well sure enough just hit 100k miles and started hearing rod knock. The dealer I bought it from wasn't supposed to sell me this car then? Good thing it's recalled and I'm getting a new long block this week. Car is at Acura right now. I guess I kind of lucked out in a way but also what if the recall wasn't here yet I would just be stuck with a lemon and the dealership would have gotten away with it?

I could be wrong but I thought the 2020 TLX had the turbo charged 4 cylinder. I had a 2018 TLX Tech package with a V6 and had no problems. It is a great car. Like I say I could be wrong. 🤙🏻🤙🏻 Anyway thanks for the heads up!

How will they check that?. Drop the oil pan on every one of the models affected and check the crankshaft and rod bearings? On almost million cars omg..I have a 2015 Tlx,the technician is going to make alot of money on the recall jobs replacing engines.

That is weird for Honda. My issue was my 2020 2.0T Accord steering issue after 2 years, so I traded for 2023 integra Elite a spec manual and love it too like my Accord, but unfortunately same steering issue started and after 5 months ownership after first oil change. Dealership has been great with us for years, but still waiting to see about replacing parts or trade....for how awesome these vehicles are, I'm disappointed with Honda Acura for those issue. Any word on my issue and what it is and is it fixable??? I believe blown engine issue could be for start/stop, so I turn off, but sometimes forget.

Crankshafts were not fitted properly, it is now known. It is NOT due to thinner oils, and their fake fix, in many cases, is a band-aid. Everyone should get a short-block, according to an actual expert, Honda Tech. He would not buy a used one unless it had a new short-block put in. Some are only having a few of the bearings replaced, so it will just happen AGAIN! When real shops rebuild an engine, they mic, and fit bearings, to each journal, AFTER the crank has been inspected, and possibly turned.
