Unless I'm wrong (someone correct me), all the Senran Kagura games are made by Tamsoft and are _published_ by Marvelous Inc whilst Story of Seasons is made by _and_ published by Marvelous Inc. It's like saying Nintendo keeps making Pokemon games when it's actually Game Freak who makes them and Nintendo is just the publisher.

I really liked playing Harvest Moon back in the day, and liked the original DS Rune Factory even better! I just want a “modern” game like those ones but actually GOOD. Like I want appealing graphics, male romance options I actually like, and interesting NPCs! But I feel like most of the games that have come out lately are kind of janky looking, and just aren’t meeting with the potential of the genre…

I remember when the Harvest Moon games were actually good. I don't understand how older ones like Back To Nature have way more to do. Like this gamecube remake has less marriage candidates, less characters, less customization

AWL has always been the black sheep in the series, and its focus is on quality over quantity. There aren't as many marriage candidates, but you go through an entire lifetime with them. You watch your baby turn into a toddler, then a child, then a teenager. It's a different formula than most HM/SoS games. If you want a newer SoS that's more akin to the older games (but improved), Trio of Towns is solid. Also... less customization, really? You couldn't even be a girl in BtN, lol.

When I played Sun Haven that's one of the first things I noticed is how much more the people and town mattered and were not just there as objects to woo or vendor locations. I actually felt like part of a town/community with other people and not just like I was playing a farming game.

I've played Stardew Valley and a couple of Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon games. In my opinion, Stardew Valley is better for long-term play and experimentation-- you can decorate your farm, grow weird crops and catch weird fish, and there are mods if that's your cup of tea. Story of Seasons has a couple advantages as far as family life goes, like your child can actually speak and you can give them gifts. Plus you and your spouse can celebrate events like birthdays and certain festivals. Both are good!

I find myself overwhelmed by the many things you can do in Stardew, and the many ways i can optimize my profits via wine and aging, etc. I played it once, and got tired after a few in game years. Didn't want to play again for some reason. Harvest moon was different for me tho, cuz i played it so many times wanting to marry the different bachelorettes, and Cliff. Maybe i just like the people in HM better

In Rune Factory your kids can grow up enough to use equipment and fight monsters with you. The kids in Stardew feel tacked on since they never get past toddler.

I did try this game - for something light, and distracting. It is pretty much neither. At all. The economy is so borked that 1 base normal arsed cow, costs your MC half as much as the 2ND upgrade to the house (which you also need for marriage) * You cannot actually milk the blasted thing without a set of milking gear which added I believe 2 k or more to the actual price. So if you don't have enough to get the milking gear, you're boning yourself out of 5 k gold for no profit in the interim. With resource cost added, to both chicken feed + fodder (because if you want 1 chicken & 1 cow of course they eat different things. Nevermind the fact they have more expensive versions of cow that give different sorts of milk. * Good luck trying to cook anything; you need to upgrade the house at least once - you need the recipes, and you need to figure out how the holy hell to get the ingredients... and you can probably still fail at it. : / Certain recipes will require certain sets that are also needlessly painfully expensive. So it'll be about a century and a half in real time before you actually get anywhere with a skill that's only debatably useful to those who aren't hardcore players. I ended up learning like 5-6 recipes that even once I had the upgrade to the house I couldn't do a damned thing with. No ingredients, and no sets. I mean, come on... You guys could have at least let me hunt all those useless freaking wild forest animals that run away and do nothing but cost pixels. The crops grow too slowly to be sustainable profit in the early game. The nature spirits are pains to get to help you, and don't even try to get married. The requirements for the ones that are not locked to events you need a wiki to figure out how to find, are still absurd. Basically a couple of weeks after you get hitched, if you're playing a boy, your wife is preggers. If you're the girl; congratulations... But I don't think the kid is necessarily more helpful at tasks than the nature spirit. Even if the game DOESN'T have a time limit (I am not sure it does, but frankly if it doesn't how do you even get to NG+ ???) That doesn't mean we all want to be scrounging broke asses for the rest of eternity because RNGesus hates us. Or is it just me? At any rate, it's a game for a VERY specific * ahem * "special" kind of mindset. Because it definitely wasn't made for people like me.
