As an example, I was never a Bryson fan until I started watching him show up on youtube videos with others and his own channel. Now I pull for him every time he plays. It's so good to see some of these guys "behind the scenes" or casually and see their personalities come out.

Anyone who followed the PGA Tour when AK was a younger lad, he was one of the few guys who moved the needle. Tiger obviously was the needle, but AK was a kid who had a ton of buzz and interest. Recently he had turned into more of an enigma. What happened to him? Has there been a sighting? Etc. So to see the interest, especially from the US crowd makes total sense. As far as him not making it out on the tour, he got injured and took an insurance payout, that is the primary reason why he disappeared. Also not "loads" of guys who left the tour 12 years ago could go out and shoot 5 under. If it was that easy they would all do it.

The reason AK has been given this opportunity is because he is unique. There is a reason why you dedicated time of this podcast to talk about him. You wouldn't be talking about any other guy shooting +6, +2, -5.. long time golf fans want to see him play and it's a fun journey to follow. That alone merits his spot on LIV. If you weren't around 16 years ago you probably don't care as much and that's fair, but a lot of older people are genuinely interested in seeing him back. There has never been a story like this before, where a truly top 10 player just vanished, gave up the game and out of nowhere comes back to compete.. I would much rather watch him and his journey than some dude who can shoot -2 day in day out.. that being said, I would also love to see Robbo on LIV xD

Well said. AK on LIV is not about him validating it as a tour, it's a storyline that draws eyes to LIV, which clearly has worked. It's a "bait'n'hook" to get people to watch/give it a chance that maybe wouldn't have. It's a PR move, not a 'validation move.' I genuinely enjoy watching both tours, but at least LIV is trying to get more people into their product and not just building walls hoping more don't leave like the PGA seems to be doing.

I just don't get how you or anyone says there is no pressure on AK. He had 10 events to sink or swim. He now has 8. This is the rest of his life he is playing for. He plays lousy he's gone. He plays good he has a second chance on a career in golf. I can't imagine the pressure of what amounts to this audition. I will say his interviews seem he has his priorities straight. A pleasure to listen to. I can't imagine what his life was like prior to this. He says he is blessed and I believe him...

Important to note that Scotty Scheffler did more than just change to a mallet putter. He changed his alignment process. He went from using the line on the ball to set his alignment to target, to using the alignment on the putter to set his alignment therefore setting the putter first then aligning his body to the putter versus ball. It's more than an equipment change, it's a process change.

The parts of this podcast focused on LIV are starting to sound like r/golf....I was fortunate enough to be at LIV Hong Kong on Sunday. This was the first event I've been to in person and it was just a fantastic experience. Regardless of whether it's an exhibition or not, it was a thoroughly entertaining event, which made both me and my sons want to play more golf. The quality of both the logistics and the golf involved speak for themselves. Regarding AK, I can't imagine the pressure that he must have felt, especially coming from Jeddah to HK where we had huge crowds. He certainly needs more time, but isn't it great that there is another story to follow in LIV. If he makes a comeback to previous form it will be incredible and something that we have the chance to watch as it unfolds. This is supposed to be entertainment after all...

My first driver was the Cobra F9 because of Rick. I started becoming a fan of the PGA and wondered who played Cobra. I knew who Rickie Fowler was but became a fan the more I followed him. I got to watch him shoot 60 at the Travellers live last year. I eventually filled my bag with All Cobra clubs minus the putter. To be honest I love them. The Aerojet Max instantly improved my game. The Forge Tec X I love. But a Pro and Rick influenced me to the clubs I have now.

50:44 Definitely agree with the "77" meaning 177 etc. I once posted a comment saying "what do the tour pros do with all the time they save not saying 1" and many people didn't appreciate the joke, but it kind of goes to show it's bit ridiculous. 51:43 The tap of your wedge on your shoes when you get out of a bunker has a real use and benefit. Many a time greenside bunkers have a ton of sandy footprints on the green (and the sand it tough to clean off before your putt). If you tap your shoes to get most of the sand off, you make less of a mess. Also, good courteous golfers do this whether they stuck a sand shot 10" from the whole or bladed it across the green. Respecting the course is irrespective of the score you shoot.

Guy, I would say that AK has no pressure, or it means nothing is unfair. I am sure it means everything to AK, his family, and his future in golf. If he doesn't perform, it will be short-lived, and he will return to obscurity. If that is not pressure, I don't know what is.

When I started the podcast, I wondered how long it would take Guy to say something bad about LIV. Didn’t take long. Broken record. Whether Anthony Kim is “deserving” of a spot is irrelevant. The PGA does similar marketing tricks to get eyeballs as well. Whether we’re talking various KZbinrs getting into an event, LPGA players with big names playing an event, sponsor exemptions, etc, every league/tour that wants to make money is going to try to give us something compelling and/or entertaining to watch. If Kim fizzles out, who cares? If he can make a comeback, what a story for those of us who watched him play the first time around. Same thing goes for when Lexi Thompson plays with the men, or a KZbinr plays. If they do well, what a story. If not, who cares?

When climbing out and off the bunker tapping the shoes with your club or stumping in the rough is a good habit not to transport sand onto the fairways and greens. Yes, on green you may remove it, but on fairway you don’t and if no preferred lies aply, you then need to hit a sandy ball, yet not in a trap - bunker.

I would as say Rick that a lot of us high handicappers haven’t earned the level of autopilot in our golf game that you have yet. Meaning, you can have a laugh a bit more and still play good golf. You’ve dedicated that time to the game that you can divide your attention and still play pretty well. I think for someone like myself I cannot approach a golf ball without seriousness because the ability to error in contact is still high. Folks have to remember that high performance athletes are required to be on all the time. That is why KZbin content has really changed the game for golfers. We finally get to see them in a relaxed environment hit shots we still cannot hit but under no pressure. Even in our common jobs, there is time for play and time for work.

I didn't start watching liv because of AK I started watching because I like golf and it is better than it was in the beginning. Plenty of room for improvement without a doubt. I truly think if its still around in 5yrs it will be much better. The pga have had yrs to make production better. @kennethbnorris That's correct, it almost happened this weekend. I started really pulling for Stentson and Poulter because of the team aspect. I'm not a Poulter fan at all but I thought it would be cool. I think Casey and Bryson played off each other and being teammates. I wish that they did a fourth day were the teams played together to start the tourny and it counted as team points and individual that would get them 72 holes and be like a mini Ryder Cup every tournament. It would solve the one thing that everyone complains about in world rankings and make them play better. You would want a better team in the end. That's just my humble opinion. They win pretty good money for team wins but I think they look at it as more a bonus, the players I mean. It is inevitable that they will have team playoff as well as individual being in both types of playoffs. That being said I do think they need to start the last day earlier to ensure there is enough time to finish playoffs just look at Sergio and Jacko playoff, what if one off them had a team playoff as well.

For me im glad AK took the opportunity to play LIV to better him and his family's lives and to hopefully inspire others to play and/or return to golf after a hiatus - as a lot of parents do when the 'nest becomes empty'. Also, AK is a class player, and class is permanent as he has proved again by his final round in HK. The sad part is that the PGAT had no place for him to return to pro golf. Yet AK was a super star, once was the 6th ranked OWGR player, 3 PGA tour wins, USD$12.2 mill earned between 2006 - 2012, Ryder Cup 2008, Presidents Cup 2009, yet there is no ability for the PGAT in any capacity to help AK back to the professional golf arena. I am super glad AK gets his chance to inspire others to play golf, whether it be newbies or returnees. Keep rocking it AK. Thx LIV golf. ❤

No pressure?! That statement alone, you have to recognize you’re just a hater. What about pga pro ams? Not gimmicky? They don’t feel pressure? You guys talk about pressure making KZbin vids while you golf but ak had no pressure?! 😂 wild take

Scotty schlefflers putter is just not the change to mallet , it’s the hosel aswell , it’s a crank hosel , missing that detail there

After Scottie's dominant win this past weekend, do mallet putters become the hot golf item for the average golfer?

Good point. It should. I think there are a ton of people who use a blade putter out of ego. So much easier to roll the ball with a mallet.

I agree 100% that golf is so cut throat that all players have to be serious. So we don’t see their personalities. So my question is, do you think you see more personalities on LIV due to everyone already is financially comfortable? That way in theory we should see better golf because people are more relaxed? Where as in the PGA, we see the more mentally stable/confident people win more? I find golf the most mentally demanding sport. Yes you still need a ton of talent. But, what separates the best from the best is the mental game.

Adding comment before watching. I didn’t care for it as much. So much more they could do in my opinion. It’s just manufactured drama. The Ryder Cup part and the Fitzpatrick brothers storylines were good. Overall I’d give it a 6 out of 10.

I feel that I am of a small group but I go the other way from the tour pros. Simply because I am a high handicapper and if Rory is using certain clubs or balls I tell myself he’s one the best golfers to have ever walked the earth I have no business using that equipment whether it be balls or clubs.

To your point about golf balls. I'm amazed that Tiger, the best golfer of our modern era, uses Bridgestone but not many others do. You'd think that EVERYONE would be using what Tiger is using. That the player and the players' results would drive purchasing. Yet ProV1 is the #1 ball. Who has more power on consumers, the athletes or the adverts?

I think what LIV is bringing is more compared to other professional sports where someone talented makes it to the big stage and has a season to show that he deserves to be there, just like football, we see a lot of players on the bench that get paid because they are talented, and then you see the process from bench to regular player to starter or they just don't make it and get cut. Imagine if these football players were given 1 match in which they would have to pay their expenses, their own crew, and they would have to perform their best to get a chance for another one... Probably most of the football players you all love would not have make it...

Saying LIV has a "small" competitive field is laughable. You brought up John Rahm and he hasn't won yet. An you don't even mention DJ, Talor Gooch, Cam Smith who have won at least 3 times and I think maybe even 4 times. And every event has been very competitive, no blow outs. So your comment is a JOKE.

I thought Series 2 was decent. Enjoyed the Wyndham Clark episode. Similar to Guy’s change of opinion on Keegan Bradley, I was the same with Clark. When he won the US Open I was underwhelmed but having watched Full Swing, nobody was more deserving. However, the LIV stuff bored me. And I really hated the narrative they kept pushing that people thought the LIV guys couldn’t win majors which is absolute nonsense. Guys like Dustin and Brooks are always going to be competitive in majors regardless of what tour they play on.

Your never ending downplay of LIV and to some extent their players does get a little old. Guess what, Tiger isn't an issue on the course anymore. Can you say with a straight face that the PGA Tour is "quality" golf these days. I mean seriously, 69 players in a "Premium" event, making the rich richer tournament. I think not. I am one that can not wait for Monahan to get his head out of his rear and get golf moving forward again, with "ALL" of the top players on one course at one time. As far as A.K., I am assuming you weren't around when A.K. was lighting up the tour. I for one, am happen LIV has given him the opportunity to revise his career, something the PGA Tour and probably McIlroy/Monahan would never let him do.
