I don't think most men would be happy if their girlfriend tells them "I wanna gain 35 pounds of weight". It depends on the circumstances. In her case I think it was definitely necessary for her to gain weight, because she was unhealthily lean. I think she looks happier and healthier now. But: If your partner is already overweight that's a totally different situation. In that case a weight gain would be unhealthy for her and to be completely honest, I would try to talk to her and try to convince her not to do it. You can be understanding and sensitive towards your partner even though you have a different opinion.
@cultsulth4 жыл бұрын
Yes everyone should be understanding but that doesn't mean anyone should like and accept anything. Anyone would be just right to feel that he doesn't like his boy/girlfriend to gain weight.

Hi! I know you posted this two months ago but I'd like to share my experience with you in case it might still be of some help. I started binging this summer almost every night due to dieting and I think it's been two or three months since my last binge. What I did was stop denying myself certain categories of food because the more I restricted the more I wanted. That's how our brains works: what do you think of if I tell you not to think of a red ball? I used to binge on milk and cookies, so I incorporated these foods into my meals again and ate them with no guilt. That's the key: you have to remove any moral judgement from food.... There's no such thing as good or bad food... It's all just food and you can't allow it to define the kind of person you are. You can be bad for stealing etc, not for eating a donut! After I ate a portion of the foods I used to consider as "bad" everyday, I stopped wanting them. They were not special anymore because I knew I could have them whenever I wanted. I had a mindset of abundance, whereas before my subconscious thought that whenever I had the chance to eat milk and cookies I should eat as much as I could, fearing it was the last time I would have the chance. There's nothing wrong with that: it used to be a survival technique for our ancestors who starved everyday until they caught a prey and ate as much as they could because they did not know when their next meal would be. This kind of mentality comes back when we start to restrict our food... It's our brain fearing starvation and protecting us. Just believe that you live in abundance and that all the foods you want are always available, which is the thruth about nowadays society.... food is everywhere. So just wait till you're hungry, sit at a table, plate those foods and eat them just like any normal food. No shame, no guilt. It's a conscious choice you've made. Do this everyday and you'll stop craving and binging. I binged a lot when I started this but making some mistakes is part of every process. I don't even like milk and cookies anymore, they're just like any other food for me now. Sorry for the very long message, but, in case you're still struggling with binge eating, I just wanted you to know you're not alone and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

The key is to quiet your mind when you feel the urger to binge OR restrict and keep practicing eating until you're full. And remember you're eating might be really all over the place and unhealthy for a while until you settle! you've got this, you'll feel so free

I'm sharing this with ED clients of mine. I like how Jeff described his disordered eating and that you call out how taboo it is to discuss it. I see more people in therapy who come in for feelings of anxiety or depression and we uncover that they restrict, over exercise and don't sleep well. Altering all three of those things will reduce strain on the body, mind, nervous system and allow the body time to heal. I think people are being mis-diagnosed and subsequently medicated when the key to a lot of change is in the basics. Thank you for making this video!
@hannahdun72835 жыл бұрын
keckk22 just a quick question: often people struggling with eating disorders consume calories on a deficit.. during the recovery process of an ED, is it normal for the person to have a larger appetite for let’s say 3 years even if the person becomes at a healthy weight and has progressed really well in recovery?
@ashlynnflory20345 жыл бұрын
@@hannahdun7283 Usually your stomach is supposed to become smaller when you're not in recovery cause you're not eating alot but as you eat more it gets bigger so maybe you're still not eating enough if you're still hungry because if your body is telling you you're hungry then you are but if it's just comfort eating then maybe you're not actually hungry.
@keckk225 жыл бұрын
@@hannahdun7283 Hey Hannah. When I've worked with ED clients and nutritionists at the same time they often tell me the damage done to a metabolism can take a long time to recover from. Long time meaning years so I wouldn't be surprised at all to find an increased level of hunger for quite a while. At the same time the brain needs to learn and understand healthy hunger and fullness cues and that can take a while as well.

Gunner that is a pretty shallow and fucked up thing to assume. Just because he is a body builder doesn’t mean that he doesn’t enjoy having his woman happy (or enjoying that junk in the trunk). He is a MAN, not a child/boy. A man loves his woman in every single stage that she does through in life and supports her and her changes physically aren’t going to do anything but bring them closer and make them fall even more in love. That’s is what going through a journey in a relationship does..bring two people closer, not to mention, she is somebody that actually follows through, just like a bodybuilder does with bulking and leaning. She isn’t doing this with zero goals in mind. She’s a fucking PhD..she is a dedicated, strong woman that know hat she wants and has goals she is working towards, and right now those the goals are health oriented and also includes gaining that control back over her health and body. Just because that is the way you think means that her man thinks that way. He is in no way a shallow man. I would LOVE to see Jeff do a science based video/videos on his binge eating to intuitive eating journey. I've struggled with BED for most of my life (since I was 6) so obviously our journeys are drastically different, but getting to a point of being able to eat intuitively seems like such a fairy tale to me. I'd love to see some of his research and tips on it as it is such a taboo subject that no one wants to talk about and people just suffer in silence as a result.

@Amanda R All in will be able to put an e brake on the bulimia as long as you're keeping your mental health in check and are prepared for letting go of your weight. Its a journey but will open your world up to having better relationships, more mental space, heart, energy and positive experience! Best of luck :)

@@CassandraMac thank you for sharing this experience! I'm early into real recovery - finally giving in to the extreme hunger after years of treatment and folks attempting to supervise a reverse-diet. (Fascinating to me that this reverse dieting didn't work for myself or many with EDs and that many body building folks struggle with this approach as well). Accepting the weight-gain and over-shoot is turning out to be the hardest part. Congrats on your recovery, it's always inspiring to hear people make it.

"Might be" a double standard? Jeff, so polite. Some of the things you describe are true, but the vast majority are not thinking beyond what it means to their eyeballs and how it feels to look at bodies. They might be able to dress it up in "health" or scientific concern but that's only because they know on some level that they can't say it out loud.
@abcw1145 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was hesitant to say it, but you've inspired me. They're interacting with it almost 100% on a superficial level. I'm sure some are fitness guys who just aren't paying attention and there are even a few who are trying to help in earnest, although they're apparently unconcerned that nobody asked for their advice. But the majority from my perspective are just bummed that she's not as lean and really, really want her to know what they think of her physique right now. If they know her struggles with hunger, then it's even more fucked up to say. Would you really want someone to go to bed painfully hungry and lack the energy to go about her day just because you prefer Lean Stephanie? Get a hobby that isn't ogling strangers on the internet and trolling them when they "fail" you. She has to live in her body and her health and feelings are what matter. She's also absolutely gorgeous at this weight, so I didn't want to imply there's anything wrong with how she looks. You're beautiful, Stephanie, but how you look is just so not the point. You're on a health journey.

YES. My first thoughts as well were that the critics are just upset they can't "enjoy" her leaner physique anymore because that's what they find attractive. It's gross. So many men think women exist for their viewing pleasure and need to fit their mold of what women should look like, not realizing she is a human being and this goes way deeper than they are capable of thinking.

I just competed in my first figure bodybuilding show in June of this year and I’ve battled with some binge eating, feeling guilty about it and try to compensate with cutting my food the next day. I appreciate that you guys are using such terms as "extreme hunger" and not labelling this lifestyle as an eating disorder. I think it's important to talk about this kind of stuff with out immediately labeling it as a mental illness. It's something that a lot of people go through, especially those who are involved in sports or fitness. Many don't even realize what's happening while they are going through it. It's also super important to explain the reasons behind why the body will binge or what actually goes on "behind the scenes" when people are going through this.

Love that you’re doing these videos. Such a positive influence for women. Just wanted to say that while the “all in approach” will help with your hunger cues and help with a healthier mindset around food, it’s important to get help around the psychological component of why there were challenges around eating.
