you can do it without the rpm increase, but it is less efficient, if you a have battery stock go with meshiel 2.0, fangs re, and brushless 2030's all on a 2s 3200 mah with 50c

i read on reddit that in really close setups like this you should increase crush, but maintain rpm, otherwise the difference in rpm doesn't help and just damages the darts as they get ripped from one flywheel to the next. if you increase the crush you're imparting more energy to the dart as it goes through the stages. i'm doing some hyperions in an aurora cage with bulldogs into wolverines with eclipse cage and wheels leaving out the middle cage.

the logic actually goes both ways, if your cages aren't spaced very far apart, it is better to use the same motors for all stages, because the crush will increase the fps, but if your cages are spaced far apart, then you should go with increasing Rpm, because if the cages are close and you increase in rpm then the dart will slow down because it will be halfway between cages that are both pushing it at different speeds which equals more drag

Had my own opinions about multistage set ups; namely that they weren't necessary beyond being exercises in excess given that a single stage brushless motor pair is quite capable of 200+fps. But... the theory (need more than one video, with a methodical approach to testing and unbiased/doctored results) is that properly set up multistage flywheels reduce damage to darts by gradually ramping up the velocity, thus (theoretically again) reducing the initial grab that strips foam and tears heads off darts. Source and test video please; I'm not convinced. It is proven that 300fps is possible with multiple stages, although it took a quad cage of staged brushless (8 brushless motors) motors to approach that mark, which (see initial opinion) really boil back down to exercises in excess and diminishing returns. 3 sets of motors to add 100fps? Amusing, but impractical and inefficient. To properly build a Dominator with 3 pairs of motors (+1 for auto), scrap the old methods and use six rotor drone build internals with ESCs, BEC, main controller (Arduino Nano, or a dedicated flight controller), etc. that will safely handle the current and voltage requirements. While it can be done with brushed motors, brushless is really the way to go. Worker didn't intend this, so whatever. Beats printing a large shell or doing extreme surgery to an existing Nerf blaster.

Hey Drac, I do share your opinion. But I mean there's a lot potential in the shell too. Suppose you'd go with a decent single flywheel cage, some bulldogs and FangRv's, then I believe with the dual mag and an auto-pusher kid, this could be a real solid addition to the hobby.

I feel like the Dominator magazine benefits from offbrand darts more than anything else. the squishiness of standard darts is a problem, however FVJs, accufakes and other offbrand type's more rigid foam helps remedy that jamming problem.

I think you could remove the first 1 or 2 Cages to get less obstruction and just lengthen the Barrel up to the last 1 or 2 Cages left. Then make it full Auto as a mg.

I've been spending the last three years slowly getting into Nerf after buying a few blasters to play against my nephew, and then I fell down this KZbin rabbit hole watching videos on multiple nerfer channels gaining insight and knowledge into this fandom and gaining the desire to collect and mod blasters. The notion of a multi stage flywheel blaster interested me but the insight I gained from this video has started to change my mind, expense aside, the concerns about malfunctioning should have crossed my mind sooner. Interesting things to ponder...

Normally I don't agree with absolutely everything you say, but I have to say, you are absolutely right on the Dominator, it's ridiculous, and for a 3-stage system, the FPS and cost just turn me off, I'd rather mod one of my Hyperfires or Rapidstrikes with Fang Revampeds, Bulldog flywheels and my own 3D printed 42.5mm cage. if I want range or FPS, I'll just use my Longshot.

Oddest design choice with this (and the swordfish) is the battery tray. Swordfish is setup for AA batteries and this is nowhere near big enough for the lipo that you need to run it. Its like the guys building the front didn't talk to the guys building the back end.

The physics behind a one and two stage flywheel setup stand true, no matter your opinion. With the friction coefficient between the wheels and the dart, no matter what rpm, accelerting the dart with a motor any faster than 25k rpm will result in a cap of about 120fps on a one stage setup. Having a second stage subsequently removes the tractive torque it takes for the dart to accelerate from 0 to 120fps, therefore giving the secong stage more headroom to accelerate the dart even faster until it reaches that flywheel's maximum coefficient before slipping.

And 3, the mag has feeding issues with crummy darts, like every other mag.

Yeah, I don't really get the point of having so many stages in a blaster. I can see having a second cage at the end to give an extra boost to combat barrel drag, but there's only so fast foam darts can move through a system, regardless of how many motors. Not to mention the possibility of the components being misaligned if somebody without much experience with building blasters were putting this together. And with so many essential moving parts without access to clear jams, an issue would put you out of a nerf war until you could open it up and fix it if you didn't have a good backup.

Doing it as a progressive 2-stage seems the ideal way to set it up. And only use a Worker lower-crush cage as the first stage better guide the darts from the dual-stack mag. I'm pretty sure the wildly curving shots are a result of the canted 3rd stage cage. I'm so done using canted cages on high fps builds. When I can get (very good condition) accufakes and waffles to hit a 12"x12" target at 60 feet from my 140ish and 160ish fps Stryfes and new Stratohawk build (hitting 145 to155 with a 42.5 cage and Bulldog flywheels), EVERY SINGLE SHOT from straight cages, what's the point? Unless you like your darts to pull high-G turns instead of flying straight :-)

I understand multi stage for people with extreme skills and a tight budget who make awesome builds throwing old stryfe cages in like a modulus and getting 200+ FPS from a setup that cost them less than 25 bucks (assuming basic motor upgrades). However, if you’re buying a $40 base blaster it’s taking the budget part out of it, and I don’t really see the point unless you’re going for the most powerful flywheeler possible.
