i love that keaton only did this movie on the conditions that 1. beetlejuice isnt the main character 2. burton had to use mostly practical effects keaton knew what made the first film good and refused to do the sequel unless those terms were met

I'm glad they resisted giving Beetlejuice a ton more screen time, and realized he works best in small doses. Micheal Keaton still nails the role and you can tell he had a blast.

​@seanknox7321 makes sense. I remember hearing he did the same thing about the batman cowl with the doodoo flash movie. The prop guys made the neck more flexible and he refused it because his iconic "batman tilt" that he did he felt was required for the character 😂

I can't imagine anyone else in the role tbh. When both he and Winona are gone there should be no more Beetlejuice. Oh, and even though she played it very similar to Wednesday, I think Jenna Ortega was the right casting decision for Winona's daughter.

Soul Train actually fit the movie perfectly because Soul Train was still in vogue when the original movie was made. I think it was a clever call back to that time frame.

But, excepting the Influencers & One woman at the Fake Out Wedding at the End, those are the only African Americans in the movie. Tim Burton doesn't like to use People of Color because they wreck his color pallet 🙄😡

It's also just so nice to see Tim Burton finally feeling like he's enjoying the art of movie making again. I think he's been so caught up in the green screens and CGI of the last decade or so of his work with few exceptions, that it's no wonder going back to getting something you can interact with has been so freeing for him.

Exactly! Wednesday was that initial spark, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the flame. It's a refreshing return to what made Burton so beloved in the first place, to the point that I'm actually interested in what he puts out next, which is not something I think I've been able to say since Frankenweenie.

The irony that the movie sequel WB was poised to just dump to streaming because they had little faith in it's bigger viability is doing significantly better than they ever expected, and the movie sequel they had a big marketing push and strong faith in has utterly floundered in the market.

I mean the trailers were already hitting the right vibe. But the fact Burton and Keaton actually kept Beetlejuice to a minimum shows they understood the risks of oversaturating him in a story. So there's a clear understanding of what works.

I truly hate what they did with Lydia. She went from being suave and snarky (yet mature) to a pill-popping, anxiety-ridden wreck whose kid openly disrespects her at every turn, has a mentally abusive gold-digging fiance, and generally doesn't seem to have any control over or even know what's going on around her. ...cool.

I agree. I actually thought they did a really good job building up her character throughout the movie but then they just kind of forgot about her at the end. I figured her and Beetlejuice would have a good exchange of words at the church but she just shows up and then gets taken out.

The only sad thing that came from this movie was learning about why Jeffrey Jones wasn't in the sequel. Now I feel a little weirded out whenever I see Charles and Lydia together in a scene in the original movie. Yes, Jeffrey is creepier than the demon who tried to marry a child bride because he is sadly real.
