I didn't even know who rodan was until this movie and I absolutely loved it, I think expectations were the problem, I came in wanting big monster fights and I got exactly what I wanted and more, when godzilla emerges from the water right before the finale and the scene of him with jets and military ships at his back was bone shiveringly epic

It's fine to like the movie. I like the movie, but I still admit that it's trash. It's fine to like a trash movie. Also the Rodan you got is pathetic compared to the original. If you loved this new Rodan, I'd recommend the original Rodan (1956); Ghidorah The Three Headed Monster (1964); Invasion of the Astro Monster (1965); Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla 2 (1993); and Godzilla Final Wars (2004) [My personal favorite].

Unpopular opinion? I actually f#$%ing LOVED this movie. I saw it a second time with my dad and I still liked it. The thing is that Godzilla movies historically didn't have great storylines for the human side to begin with so this movie is actually very par-for-the-course in terms of Godzilla movies. But it had way better/way more fight scenes than most of the other movies and that was a major selling-point imo

There is a lot of good human plot in a lot of godzilla movies, even the plot for that one with the time traveling is more interesting that the human on this american movie. Even the plot of the last american godzilla was better that the current one.

Yeah.... not to get all "SJW" (god I hate that term) but that actually is a consistent problem among mixed gender groups, especially those where the men outnumber the women. Women are conditioned to be nice, polite and to defer to men while men are conditioned to fight for attention. This is also a form of toxic masculinity (god I REALLY hate that term) which we probably need to change for the betterment of society.

The point about the human plot is spot on! They should have cut the Orca crap and just simplify it. The only character you care about is Ken Wantanabe's. And you still can have that awesome moment without all the rest of it. I was excited about that cast and like you said it was terribly wasted. And they messed up the twin dynamic for Mothra. I agree with Joe go all the way with that, or don't do it at all.

You are right about humans being uninsterenting and not the focus, but consider this: Godzilla is the protagonist and all monsters are the main characters. They have personalities, motivations and stories that are told trough the humans and their expressions and body language. Honestly the humans feeling unsignificant and a backstage to the monsters felt fresh from "every monster is destroyed by the army" in monster movies and I feel it's a great demonstrantion of "show, don't tell"

I didn't think about it until it came up in the video, that's definitely a Dog in the Shining. If you look at the details of the mask, it has bulldog jowls. Also, the Mothra joke made me laugh incredibly hard, and I will never forgive you for putting that song back in my head!

Sorry Dan, I have to politely disagree. I am NOT a Godzilla fan in fact, I had no idea who the hell King Ghidorah was BUT I loved this film. As I said in my previous comment for the Honest Trailer, I signed up to watch giant monsters fighting and I was not disappointed. I had a blast. Agree to disagree. Still love all your honest trailers.

You should check out Godzilla Final Wars (2004). From a review "Moreso than any Godzilla film before, spectacle is the clear priority here." Heavily inspired Pacific Rim. I love the Anno ShinGodzilla, but I also love Kaiju sluggin it out. I wonder how long before we get a gritty reboot of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers... I forsee a resurgence in practical effects...

I've seen every single Godzilla and by far this one is #1 Context is key and without the orca Ghidorah would of never woke up so how would they fight if he never woke

Godzilla is not radioactive. He absorbs radiactivity. That is his food. The underground cave itself is what was radioactive. It was only when he had that megaboost from the bomb that he started emitting radiation because it was too much for his to take and keep in.
