@@TotallyNotRedneckYall James Camerons original idea for the Terminator was actually supposed to be someone smaller who could blend into a crowd, much more like the T-1000. Originally Lance Henricksen (who is one of the detectives at the police station) was going to be the Terminator and Arnie was going to be Kyle Reese. After meeting Arnie, James Cameron decided to make him the Terminator instead, making the terminator less subtle but much more threatening.

I liked most of the cast of Dark Fate (never said I like the film), but the actress playing Dani never sold me on being a resistance leader. The futuristic scene where she's taking on those kid's in a fight was terrible, because it looked like cos-playing a future war, and don't get me started on the bit afterwards where she has all her soldier's stand up in plain sight!

I did like the movie in spite of what happened with JC. I have a better scenario they could have used that would have kept JC alive, and the t800 and Dani along with Grace, simply by making Grace the scientist who came up with the enhanced human technology. Because she isnt believable AT ALL as the leader. I fast forward past her future speech.

I feel this is a genuine problem with the ONE type characters the whole movie is spent on them so that they would live and save humans or whatever blah blah blah ... I prefer to have Dark Fate not to be released at all. The ending of the Terminator franchise will always be T2 to me. Dark Fate really broke the last straw for me after three failed attempts, although Salvation would’ve been good if they had the right script, that way we can see more of the Skynet war for the next two films. Right now I’m done, don’t need to see any more sequels or reboots from the this franchise because I’m officially done. FYI, I will never consider Dark Fate as the alleged sequel to T2. Just T2 and nothing else afterwards.

I gotta be honest, I thought it was hilarious and authentic that "Carl" would think putting a cell phone in a chip bag would block the signal. He's a machine from an alternate timeline, one where cell phones were never developed past whatever tech humanity had pre-Judgement Day (1997 in his continuity). Compound that with the fact that he's spent most of his life cycle moving forward from the new timeline he created by finishing his objective in 1998. If your crazy aunt is kooky enough to believe a potato chip bag is blocking a 5G cell phone signal, surely Sarah Connor and "Carl" could have a similar blind spot in their logical thinking - chalk it up to believe what you want to be true, even if it makes no technological sense.

What they should have done with this movie: keep setup but make the girl the person who frees terminators to be individuals. Some (group called legion) wants to kill her to make all terminators one again. There is a human & terminator sent back from the future working together to keep terminators free from skynets control. Boom, much more interesting & in-depth.

I think Terminator 3 does what it set out to do for me. It has some cringe moments that were very much obviously forced in just to attempt to replicate moments from T2, but the main concept of the story and the inevitability of the ending make me happy. I don't think Dark Fate adds anything to the concept and just kind of is "another Terminator" movie. At the end of the day you only ever need one Terminator movie tho, and that one is T2.

Terminator III is criminally underrated. Storywise it is the best sequel, with a great twist and concept. Kristiana Loken wasn't a great casting choice, but it feels a much better sequel after T2 than all the others including Dork Fate. It came right after T2 so it couldn't win. If they carried on that concept it would be interesting. I really wish they didn't kill Edward Furlong. Because it was a lazy writing, and I would watch an out of shape, ex-addict John Connor who gets himself together.

In T2, Arnold loses his arm again in that gear before lowering himself into the vat to be destroyed. Back in the 90's I always thought a real T3 movie would involve someone finding that damaged arm and reverse-engineering it to create Skynet again or something similar to it. That's what Legion could have been in this movie. That crushed arm was the plot hole I never forgot about in T2.

The issue with Dark Fate is how it fits into the franchise. It's the worst fit. On its own I couldn't look past the CGI and story being terrible. T3 is certainly a better fit and I'd say aged better than Dark Fate will. And in terms of fit you can watch Salvation as a prequel. Where does Dark Fate fit? Nowhere.

I think one point of confusion is the intro with the T-800s are from the original future timeline. At least, that how Sarah Connor made it sound. Carl also tells the Rev 9 be's from a failed timeline. The Rev recognizes what Arnold is after it scans him, but it seems like they're just the end results of similar technological advances.

The idea of a Terminator that carries out its mission being free to live the good life and basically become a good guy doesn't really ring true to me. The Terminator is a machine whose fundamental programming is the elimination of targets for the ultimate goal of serving and defending Skynet. So, when this Terminator finds itself in an alternate reality where Skynet isn't developed, its programming is just going to be OK with that? I think it more likely, as was implied in T3 when the terminatrix plugged into the Internet, that the Terminator would be more likely to take on the secondary mission of attempting to assure Skynet's creation. Of course, the crux of the idea is from that T2 deleted scene where they reprogram the learning chip. Cameron's original idea was that Terminators are slaves to their programming by default, but have a learning setting that can be activated manually. But when the removing the chip scene was eating up story time, he changed it to a line about Terminators being able to learn to help their mission. (Of course, the director's cut also ends in the alternate 2029 where John Connor is a U.S. senator, so that pretty much nukes Dark Fate there).

So the whole point about setting up a reboot, bringing in the original cast and pumping it up to be the "be all end all" of a franchise ... you mention how it didn't work here or in "Halloween." Can you think of an example of that approach actually working?

In most of the previous Terminator movies, the resistance attacked and co-opted Skynet's time travel facilities. After finding information about the Terminator's mission, the resistance sends a "protector", before destroying Skynet's time travel facility so it could not be used again. Skynet should eventually have a time travel facility the resistance could not reach in time to make any difference.

Or, as Spencer said, the Terminator's are sent back to a "sweet spot" in time, as it is safest to ensure Skynet will continue by not going to times where it does not already exist.

Anyone else remember, "No one goes back, No one else comes through. It's just him, and me."? I forgive them breaking that for T2, 'cause that movie was still good. But now, apparently, they sent SO many Terminators back that they're showing up every couple of years, even after they prevented Judgement Day AND SkyNet?

I think they what they should have done is flipped the script for the series and had like a grown John Conner trying to recreate Arnold from T2 because of how they bonded and what not and it is the Humans in the future who sent back the enhanced cyborg lady to kill him.

I haven't watched the movie so I don't know if this is addressed, but from what I understand based on the clips I've seen, Sarah Conner's supposed to have been hunting down terminators for the last 20 years using intel secretly given to her from Carl who can sense whenever a new one travels through time, right? If he knows where they are based on where they appear after time traveling, that means every terminator sent back would've been from the Legion timeline, right? So they'd have to be other Rev-9s or more advanced terminators like him why is she having so much trouble killing this one? Or am I mistaken? Also, if Legion's been sending Terminators further back in the past why did the new Resistance decide to send Grace here rather than to the earliest date they'd have sent back terminators?

I'm going to give you my Mexican Feminist Take of this movie: This movie is about motherhood the same way terminator 2 is about fatherhood, in terminator 2 there's a boy that doesn't have a dad, and a robot from the future ends up being that father figure he's lacking, this movie brings that premise further by showings us different kinds of motherhood, dani doesn't have a mom so she IS that mother figure, se takes care of her father and her brother, then appears Sara Connor, a mother who is grieving the loss of her son, and later we find out this new girl from the future is basically Dani's future foster child! This movie is about maternal love, and to differentiate itself from T2 is about a daughter traveling through time to save her mother. ALSO! It being set in mexico adds a little of that mom's-are-important thing because of our own virgin Mary, la virgen de Guadalupe, and even I not being a religious person loved the touch 👍

Does it matter having a feminine take? A child goes back in time to save a parent. Does gender matter in this case? It made no difference to the story.

I think a fair criticism to dark fate I've read is that since T2 our technology has evolved a lot and Terminator's writers have not kept up with making a future threat aligned with where we stand now on technology (as rightly illustrated with the ridiculously outdated Terminator Genysis app threat). I guess today we are more worried about disinformation and tracking. It's leaning more back towards an Orwellian big brother ai concept. But I guess that makes a better paranoia inducing thriller than action movie.

I wonder if they were going to copy something, then they might just make Legion akin to the Borg. The AI becomes a threat in the future as it decides to assimilate humans. This can make more sense for Grace's character too. She would be someone who was saved after being partially assimilated and hence, her 'upgrades' make more sense.

Redoing or paying homage to scenes is important for a couple reasons: 1. You’re rejogging the minds both of fans and those who watched the film when it was released 2. The reboot is bringing the film life for today’s audience. In turn, encouraging new fans. 3. Realistically, there’s only so much story one can create before it becomes convoluted; which of course is at the expense of strong characters and the franchise. *cough cough* Do I want every single franchise to be rebooted? No. Do I think it’s cool that future generations will get to see the originals? Heck yeah!

With the old terminators continuously learning to Co-exist with humans... Shouldn't they make a terminator movie where the mission is to override Skynet's ethics code to prevent the future war altogether? Of course, that'd end the franchise though
