What many fail to grasp, and I'm surprised they didn't point it out here, is that the Boys isn't "what if superheroes were bad". The superheroes are a metaphor. It's about "what if celebrities\politicians were superheroes". It's like thinking that Pink's song "just like a pill" is about drugs.

The series basically took the basic setting & character that was created in the comics, & made it much smarter & otherwise changed much of the story.

A parody of all the international thrillers- that actually looks at the role the US is playing around the world. Could start out following a John krasinki type , and have them get taken out and transition to the viewpoint of someone from the developing world opposing US intervention.

The show is so much tamer than the comics. and that's a good thing. The comics are so nihilistic and gross. This strikes a better balance of intense, funny and gross.

I'd compare this show to South Park. A lot of good, thought provoking social commentary, mixed with the dumbest, most low brow humour you can imagine. And that's why I like it. The show is basically saying, "Hey, we have a lot of stuff we want to say... but we also don't take ourselves too seriously."

It would get only 1500 views, but a Fandom "what-if" on making a $100 million Mayor of Kingstown episode would be funny. "Milo has trafficked Iris to Paris, France. Mike and Bunny go on the black market and hire mercenaries with tanks and a kaiju to stop Milo's gang of metahumans and mech suits piloted by characters played by expensive stars in cameos. All filmed on location in Paris, with a lot of practical effects for the monsters and machinery plus a few weeks worth of work for most of the stunt people in Western Europe and North Africa."
