@ ok, i guess i was being unfair, sorry. i said that because i perceived this softening of things was just so pervasive on media marketable for kids in America at that time (like in the Marvel cartoons, especially Spider-Man, where even the cops had laser guns instead of real ones, for example), but then again it's not like they're that only happens in the US (i still remember how in Europe the Turtles couldn't even be called "Ninja" due to violent undertones or somesuch).

I've rewatched them recently and the first one was solid and will always remain so to me at least. the second one, well it was a bit cheesy but still fun, the third one, was crap, i couldn't even finish it. My thing is is that the Michael bay version was flat and boring to me, yet i can see how kids might enjoy it and, good for them, i think its a bit of a staple to enjoy stupid stuff as kids. Our generation's entertainment was no different in many ways.

What funny is when you think about it, they went from advertising the use of real weapons such as swords and knives, things a kid wouldn't be allowed to play with, to advertising things like yo-yo's and sticks as weapons, which kids can get their hands on much more easily.
