Honestly, I feel like this is one of his better recipes, in that it's a good base to start from. It's..... not a "Lasagna" in any way, but it's a way to get food in your face, and with just a little work, it very much could be halfway decent.

In Australia, we'd call this a pasta bake, and we wouldn't add that much cheese, but it would be served with something like schnitzel or cutlets, or some pan fried chicken. Edit also the sauce would have onion and garlic, maybe finely chopped carrot and celery in some homes (not mine), then the tomato sauce, then basil, oregano, thyme, parsley, maybe a little chilli or cayenne pepper if you like a little heat. The water should be salty, about a tablespoon per litre, and should be boiling when you put the pasta in, and for baking, drained a minute early. Endit But the cheese. That cheese to pasta ratio is obscene.
@gink_ie Жыл бұрын
Yeah this is pretty much a pasta bake so I'd say that this is definitely a recipe Jack made that would be fine to eat, just put way less cheese in it :D

It’s a similar recipe I make for what I grew up calling “trash spaghetti” and all it was is a little bit of well seasoned tomato sauce, any kind of pasta, any kind of cheese, and I would usually use ground hamburger meat, and some spinach leaves. It was what we made in times of need and it could easily feed a house of 5 people and have some left over. Was definitely and is still one of my favorites.

so i tried jack's recipie as well years ago. i didn't use nearly as much as he did or you. less ricotta and mozzarella cheese, less sauce, added salt, pepper, crushed garlic and a little bit of oregano, bought a pepperoni log and diced up a quarter into small cubes and cooked it in a pan with some mushrooms and green pepper prior then baked after a light mozzarella sprinkle on top. basically a pizza version lol. it wasn't the absolute best but on a cold day it hits the spot and fills you up
@viscountrainbows2857 Жыл бұрын
Honestly just below my usual microwavable pasta as it doesn't have some meat to sop up the sauce and cheese, or a little bolstering grated parmesan cheese, but it's far from the worst struggle meal I could think of. I'd just throw a little salt to comp for lack of parm if necessary on it and save it for my tears as I cry myself to sleep, but seasoning it always evens out lack of meat of truly it comes to such Spartan times.

This is one of those generic recipes that is basic enough to be inoffensive and disappointing at the same time. But honestly, like with a lot of Jack's "lazy man's" recipes, it is much more work than just making a "lasagna" from those ingredients by layering them in a dish and sticking it in the oven.

Home cook here! You don't really need to grate fresh mozzarella as you can just tear it with your fingers into small bits, but if you really wanted to, you could harden it in the freezer for a little while so it's more rigid. Something you could try, if you have one of those boiled egg slicer things where you place an egg and push down a line of metal wires to slice them up, you can do that to slices of mozzarella as well! The videos you put up are great, thanks so much for the uploads!

I tried this recipe a few years ago out of curiosity. My results were pretty much the same as yours. It’s okay. It’s just penne, sauce, and cheese, so it’s definitely edible. But all the flavors are weak. It doesn’t look or taste like a lasagna at all. It’s the kind of meal you make when you want lasagna but you don’t have the ingredients for it so you make this instead. I remember it being fairly heavy too. Like, a couple of bites and you’re feeling pretty full. Most likely because of the amount of cheese.
