About Honest Tea Talk
with Aliyah, LaYinka & Sumayah
Inspired by Jada Pinkett-Smith's 'Red Table Talk', 3 Muslim women have set up a platform to speak openly and honestly, giving viewers an unedited insight into the minds and life of Muslim women. Honest Tea Talk brings deep and often unspoken topics to the table to lay down our masks and start much-needed discussions about matters related to Muslim women and the ummah at large.

As Salaam Alaikum, this is a very important topic, I think there should be a part 2 with an expert in islamic finance to talk about learning how to grow your money and obtain wealth the halal way with no interest being involved and how to obtain interest free loans for college or cars and homes as it can be a challenge living in the usa and there not being any islamic banking that I know of where I am from.

Assalamu Alaikum. Kids are in bed and I'm thoroughly enjoying my 'me time' watching HTT. This came at the right time! I literally finished making my 'vision' with so many goals and dreams. My goal was to make more money but this episode taught me that my goals were making money the END when it should ONLY be the means to piety (at some level). I am also the CEO of a charity and I totally understood where Aaliyah was coming from regarding the cost associated with bringing in speakers. But at the same time though, they are a brand and I respect their service and what they believe they are worth. What they've Billy for themselves was no easy task and they should be able to collect all the fruits from their labor. Also, if you enjoy these sisters talks please don't hesitate to donate. The link is in the description and you can even set up reoccurring monthly payments. I would like to see these sisters get recompensed for their beautiful efforts in this world and in the hereafter! Ameen

So true about muslims taking advantage by asking for discounts lol. My mother was a big spender and very generous to others too. Alhamdulillah. I'm very scared of having money, bit like Alia (the middle lady) for fear of dying with assets and wealth that become snakes in the grave! Have worked all my life, and often resented work that dug into my worship time. Allah always provided more than I need and with baraqa. Alhamdulillah. If you want to be content, don't waste, be grateful in times of plenty AND in times of need. Remember Him and He Will Take Care of the rest. All needs and wants. SubhanAllahe wa behamdehi.

I think when "poverty" was figuratively used, it confused some of us that having money cannot make you a righteous servant of Allah. Islam preaches modesty, moderation & encourages sadaqat as well as zakat. We had rich and affluent caliphs. Uthman was rich and charitable, so was Abdul Rahman ibn Awf. It's a misconception that only those who live in penury are true servants of Allah. Poverty doesn't equate piety. It's in how the barakah of Allah is expended - what you do with your money determined if you're a righteous slave or a defiant.

I don't want to agree but sadly in my own culture I've seen what money does to people. It drives them crazy. I have seen some parents or in-laws treat their well-behaved, respectful, devout, hardworking sons/daughters/in-laws badly because they were poor/on low income/relied on their husbands money but treat other rude, ill-mannered son/daughter/in-laws well simply because they are wealthy. haha Asians for you - money buys their respect. Pakistanis will never stop having a Hindu mentality. more money = more respect.

Macha Allah good job my sisters may Allah reward you abundantly for bringing up this program. Related to this topic I will like to say everything goes on the concept of modesty... our beloved prophet saw used to seek protection from weakness and poverty. So extreme poverty can lead you to disobey Allah and extreme wealth can let you go astray feeling arrogant. Both should be moderately priced in relation to our deen.

Loved this episode so much! Speaking on the context of speakers expecting 1st class flights and 5* hotels... on one hand I don’t think it’s wrong since it’s all arbitrary. A charity shouldn’t pay for this but that doesn’t mean other means couldn’t be sought to do so. On the other hand I wish digital keynotes was utilised to work round this dilemma. I’m of the view that it’s all arbitrary and there’s always a way to make it work and the value or roi is a key factor when deciding. I hear Aliyah’s concerns for attachment towards money is the worrying thing. But then I’m reminded that coming into/ earning a lot of money doesn’t so much as change a person but amplifies the running traits within a person’s view and beliefs around it. Like, if you’re already a generous person then you’d be even more generous. Similarly if you tend to squander money then you’d squander a large amount too.
@Sarararara.

The reason why some people believe having a lot of money is bad is because they are ignorant of the Islamic perspective towards money. And being blessed with a lot of money can actually be a test from Allah to see how you manage it.

This is an excellent topic I must say and I myself have had this conversation before with my peers in America. What I have found is that in muslim countries people don't have this mindset that poor is piety because it's run by muslims from top to bottom who are rich, pray, and obey the religion while gaining and maintaining wealth. Also when the muslims migrate to the west who are in pursuit of doing business they also don't have this mindset. The notion that religiosity cannot be coupled by having wealth or striving for wealth comes from monastery Catholics and the preaching of the Church to not be of the world. So Muslims reared in the west don't see depictions or examples of religious people and wealth coming together in one lifestyle because the western Christian idea of religious and piety looks down on having wealth if you are a man of God. Therefore the muslims take on the same idea because you literally see people making the choice to forget about religion since they have money and only turning to religion if they are poor which confuses the minds. However when I went to Saudi Arabia to work I saw the healthy balance between religious people and wealth. I mean big money and big homes and they are religious Masha Allah. They understand the middle course because it has always existed in their society so therefore they know how to practice and have both. I say go live with wealthy muslims in prosperous muslim lands and you will be able to strike the balance no doubt. Thank you for covering this topic though. Much needed indeed.

I have seen the same and completely agree. There is not that type of gap in mentality with wealth and deen
@thaqafahstyle
@thaqafahstyle 4 жыл бұрын
@@ummukatheer247 yeah it's a western thing for sure because as soon as the muslims who migrate from poor countries get to the west they strive for wealth and maintain their deen because they saw it back home. They left their lands for better opportunities and hopes to gain wealth and live a prosperous life. We don't realise how deeply affected we are by us being western and then muslim and that shutting ourselves off from the muslim world hurts us in more ways than one. It is completely western to be off to ourselves, it is completely western to be oblivious to other ways of thinking other than our own. But that's a whole other topic. I'm currently detoxing living in Dubai sis. Lol

Interesting talk sisters! I wish though there was a discussion about women and money. Since in the Muslim community in general, earning an income is associated with men since they are responsible for providing for family. So many Muslim women, even if they desire financial independence and abundance, they wouldn't go for it, because of the guilt and stigma associated with a woman earning. 'Why do you need money? Your husband has a high paying job' or something along the lines. Many women associate making money for themselves with extravagance and rebellion. Yes, we do have the example of Khadija, but nowadays, when her example is mentioned, I have seen many brothers respond with, Khadija r.a spent all her money on the Prophet pbuh and the Deen, and she stayed at home and managed her business by hiring people to do it for her. Yes, no doubt it is the responsibility of the mother to invest in raising her children, but does that mean she should not be earning on her own? Apart from this, some topics I'd like to suggest in Sha Allah Why Muslim girls are turning to Feminism Saying "No" Interaction with the opposite gender Creativity and Islam Self care Feminity- what does it mean to be feminine, what it is not. I can think of more, I'll add them later in Sha Allah :) You are inspiring sisters. JazakiAllahu Khair

"turning to Feminism " - due to some strictness but mostly bidah. Malik Shabazz when opposing segregation said ONeness of Lord = Oneness of Man. h/e sufi & shia grave worshippers with shia christmas mawlid bida make up new stuff & divide the umma like in Quran 9,31! so this divide leads to unity on material secularism which feminism falls apart of, feminism is like marxism but using a sex divide instead of class. Islam is the balance between 2 valleys, the right is linked to fanatic racism and the left takes that pain and then creates a similar tyranny with political correct marxism, plus they are atheists so they sell out. thats why lobbies buy the left and right. also as Malik shabazz said media is powerful, its makes victims look like criminals with cut and paste info. this is why communism is evil with info discrimination they can lead to all discriminiation! Islam we have a strong basis, creativity is cool with Islam. Prophet peace and blessings on him was nice while saying no.

1) woah. Going to look into depravation attachment. 2) 💯 we need financial education and literacy. I have none. It’s a struggle. 3) it drives me bonkers when people try to haggle with Muslims or small business self employed people but don’t do that with large business and corporations. Flips side, as Aaliyah said, I hate to see religion and spirituality monetized. I come from a Christian background and it was the work there. The answer is the clear and basic guidelines of Islam.

I believe the negative view people have with wealth and rich people is how society tells us to act with money. Society tells us to put your faith in your money and social standing or that your value is connected to your salary. If you always put God first, that protects you from the sins we associate with financial status.

thanks ladies! i think because of the different types of sources of income in our 'time', people might find that 'its not exactly' how the prophet peace be upon him derived wealth. so i agree with Layinka, we need our respected scholars to talk more about how technology interacts with money? what part of it is legitimate? when is a type of technology still not "fit" for generating income? what is the difference between a common need in a given area versus the need to create income? these lines are a bit grey for me. essentially: if as muslims we can distribute ourselves across all sectors more equally and then we get educated on proper royalty. going to try to get my health together and support this channel more (with any needed Arabic language services)

I will say as Muslim you should have money in ur hand and allah in your heart. Some of the sahaba were rich they contributed their wealth in a way that islam reaches us today they spend their wealth to defend islam to give charity See abubakar ,osman ibn afan, omar ibn khadab But of you are poor you may depend on others which islam did not encourage .prophet mhmd saw say المؤمن القوي خير وأحب إلى الله من المؤمن الضعيف وفي كل خير‏.‏
