If you want to see the true range of this band, then I highly reccomend the Wembley live version of The Poet And The Pendulum. The song is in five parts and written by the keyboard player after their previous singer left the band. The two were very close and he contemplated suicide. He wrote the song instead, symbolically killing himself within it. I defy you not to tear up if you decide to watch it. Floor's voice is on another level on it. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Everything you said is true. I would just clarify that the pain he wrote about was for the first singer, Tarja, not for the last singer in the bad, Anette. I'm sure you meant exactly that, but people who are not familliar with the band might interpret it as being about Anette.
@ChrisPhoenixMusic5 жыл бұрын
Indeed it was about Tarja, not Anette. It's important to keep it clear that Anette became ill and left on good terms with the band, whereas Tarja was fired, quite reluctantly. It was particularly painful for Tuomas because Tarja was a founding member and they were close for years, but she drifted apart from the band and began to act cold toward them. She was fired immediately after "End Of An Era" was filmed, and the band had to take a hiatus for a couple years to collect themselves in order to move forward. All things considered, Anette was a great singer, but she was a transitional piece, whereas Floor brings new life to the band (as you can see in this video). They returned to Wacken again in 2018 and also put on a very good performance, though I watched the DVD and wanted to slap the mixing engineer during the first couple songs. Anyway... more Nightwish reaction videos would be stellar, I agree. Floor is top notch.
@night_ethereal5 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisPhoenixMusic Well Tarja said in an interview for a magazine (I read the interview, it was worldwide, can't remember the name of the magazine now) that she preferred to listen to Whitney Houston over Nightwish, and this was before she was fired, so no wonder. It's one thing to say that to a friend or whatever but not so good in a magazine article about the band that you are in.
@swordablaze92595 жыл бұрын
It's not surprising that she prefers listening to a singer that's not her. If you ask actors whether they watch their own movies, most of them cringe. I'd think it more vanity if she was her favourite singer to listen to.

Hello. LOVED your reaction. Since this is your first Nightwish experience, I will give you "The Ann Waychoff" speech (a short / concentrated history of the band): Nightwish was started in 1996. They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now still is. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just saw her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol I would like to recommend "Ever Dream" (Live at Wacken 2013) kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6iqhHR8ltd7iMk Thank you.

Only Tarja's 3 first almums were operatic fashion, her 2 last albums were contemporary style (same styles as Anette's and Floor's). Anette's voice is bright, but since she has always sung in rock and metal bands and albums, it's really stupid to call her poppy. Bright voice doesn't mean pop.

@@schneevongestern9898 yeah, I'd agree that Floor made this song her own even if originally written for Tarja's vocals. @schneevongestern98984 жыл бұрын
@@blindguardian1979 tarjas singing with nightwish was magical. Especially with oceanborn. Until wishmaster. After that album her voice changed severely. What until then was a naturally flowing, lyrical and fantastic singing voice turned into something else. The vibrato became super slow and artificial, almost a wobble. the placement in the operatic range became big and dramatic and to my taste unpleasant. I do like her and many of the songs she sung with nightwish and solo. She has some glorious vocal moments and great solo music. But it's an obvious fact that floors range of tone and expression obliterates tarjas. Tarjas tone and expression are rather limited. And by no means she is a fully formed classical singer. she sings in that classical placement a lot and she's good at it but that's all. And with this song here, tarja fades to grey compared to how floor delivers it. The studio version of ghost love score is plain boring. The vocals are the least important ingredient. The main feels and the orchestra and overall sound are dominant.With floor, they become the main ingredient. Next to the drums. Floors vocals are supreme in any aspect. Phonation, resonance, placement, diction, projection, expression, variety, resilience, dynamics, breath support. She's a master and highly proficient in any of these aspects. You can give her almost anything and she will sing it perfectly. From almost death metal to pop to classical and a thousand nuances in between. Plus, floors stage presence is cinematic and a league of its own. Like I said. I love and enjoy and respect tarja. But floor is the far greater singer. One can still dislike her simply because one simply dislikes the sound of her voice. But apart from personal preference, she's outstanding. And I don't hype her as a person. I don't know her. maybe I'd hate her. But her singing skill is remarkable.

Floor is their 3rd and current female lead vocalist. All of them are sopranos, but Floor is the most versatile and can sing anything from pop to opera with great emotion and stage presence. She joined her first metal band "After Forever" at age 16 to be their lead vocalist. She first joined NIghtwish on stage in 2012 and learned their entire setlist of their world tour in 48 hours. She became full member of the band in 2013.
@Aurinkohirvi5 жыл бұрын
She isn't the most versatile. All the vocal coaches say Floor doesn't sing in quite classical voice. Honest Vocal Coach says it too: 02:55 "ALMOST a classical technique" and 08:65 "Ok, classical tone again, SLIGHTLY dropped larynx, making a BIT more of a 'oooh' sound." (Classical voice is with lowered larynx). Floor says herself that she doesn't have much classical education (she has only 1 year). Nightwish had a siger who does both classical and contemporary singing, though, and her name is Tarja. Should one have classical voice in Nightwish? There's 3 albums (Tarja's earliest albums) made for operatic style, but one CAN do new arrangements of songs, so you don't necessarily need to sing classical way, nor sing songs from the earliest albums. Tarja's two last albums were contemporary singing, (and this is from her last album).

Yes, Floor is amazing! Phenomenal! And her stage presence... like a goddess who put a spell on people and commands them! Yes, she has years of classical training. Floor Jansen started studying music at the Dutch Rock Academy in 1999, entering the Conservatorium Tilburg three years later. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera.

Nope, only one year classical training in Tilburg Conservatorium. Floor says herself she doesn't have "extensive" training into it (yeah really, tarja has 9 years of formal classical training and since that a private pupil of at least 2 classical sining professors, of which the other is Argentinian opera singer). Even in this video she says: 02:55 "ALMOST a classical technique" 08:56 "Ok, classical tone again, SLIGHTLY dropped larynx, making a BIT more of a 'oooh' sound." Notice the ALMOST, SLIGHTLY and BIT. Vocal coaches Beth Roars and Zach made the very same point Floor isn't good as a classical singer.

the way she moves her body is very expressive, I dont know what height she is but she looks quite tall so not your typical waif like pop singer. the total confidence shines though

Nice one Georgina! I keep seeing all the pop stuff you analyse and think a bit of a metal voice might be nice. Especially Floor’s voice!

Wooo me encanta el hecho de estar abierta a un género que se ve que no frecuenta. Me encanta la honestidad al dar su opinión. En mi opinión, la mejor de las 3 vocalistas.

Great reaction! And welcome to the amazing world of Nightwish :-) Ghost Love Score indeed is like a musical journey, and Floor (Jansen) made that journey even more epic. Yep, she had (part) classical training. And in her former (Dutch) band After Forever she already used her opera-style. Ghost Love Score is Floor's favorite Nightwish song. She's one of a group of amazing Dutch singers: Simone Simons, Dianne van Giersbergen, Charlotte Wessels, Sharon den Adel, Zora Cock and of course Anneke van Giersbergen.

I love Nightwish and Floor Jansen! She's a great vocalist, really versatile and just amazing on stage. At the beginning of her career, she said she was a dramatic soprano (she took a year of opera classes, so I suppose that's where she was classified). I do not know how much time and age has changed her tessitura, but, at least to my ear, she still sounds more like a soprano than mezzo? I can be wrong because I know next to nothing compared to a pro like you though, haha. And yes, she has had extensive vocal training, learning different techniques (opera, rock, even growling). And she's also a vocal coach herself! Though I'm not sure she practices that these days. Thank you for your insight, and I'm glad you reacted to the band, even though it's not your preferred genre.

By the way nothing else can say about Floor's voice, everybody knows how good she sings, I knew about her when she was with After Forever and she was always amazing, I just wanted to say there's so much great singer's out of popular music, this is just one example. Thanks for react to Nightwish!

Great reaction, thank you! Yeah, Floor is our goddess and she can even do so much more than what you've heard here. Best of all is her using that amazing mix at her disposal to really get into the song and make you feel the emotions behind it. This, combined with her amazing stage presence, also makes her the perfect singer for Nightwish, because Tuomas (the keyboarder and main composer of the band) likes to tell stories in his songs. If you want to compare her with the first Nightwish singer (Tarja Turunen) and get a glimpse of their male singer (Marco, also plays bass), do their interpretation of Phantom of the Opera from the End of an Era concert. I can promise you will love it! Thanks again and have fun!

I'm not hugely into metal, either, but I've known Nightwish since 2003 or so. Floor has to be one of the most technically skilled, versatile, and powerful vocalists around right now. Everything sounds effortless and completely under her control. She's been a vocal coach, herself. The original vocalist for this song, Tarja Turunen, had a much more straight classical style of singing. Floor used some of that original style, but made this song her own. People get attached to original lineups, understandably, but it's hard to deny that Floor is the queen. I can only imagine what it was like to be there at Wacken.
@TerranigmaQuintet5 жыл бұрын
tbf, she only did that coaching for a bit, online. Don't think she is doing it nowadays, bei8ng too busy with Nightwish and raising a kid now.
@Aurinkohirvi5 жыл бұрын
You're wrong, Highpatia. Only Tarja's 3 first albums were classical style, her 2 last albums were contemporary style, the same style as Anette and Floor sing.
@Aurinkohirvi5 жыл бұрын
Also, Floor doesn't really sing with classical voice, many vocal coaches have said the same thing (Beth Roars and Zach have at least), also in in this videos she says: 02:55 "ALMOST a classical technique" 08:56 "Ok, classical tone again, SLIGHTLY dropped larynx, making a BIT more of a 'oooh' sound." Notice the ALMOST, SLIGHTLY and BIT. Floor is not experienced in classical and she says it herself: "I've studied classical singing, but not to a great extent. For me, I'm way more at home in heavy metal than I am in classical music. I don't even really like it, the style of singing implemented. Opera, I've tried. I started hearing it, of course with NIGHTWISH, having Tarja [Turunen] in the band. That for many singers was like, 'What's this?' It was interesting for me, and I realized I had the voice for it, but to really go with the classical stuff was not my thing." www.blabbermouth.net/news/floor-jansen-reflects-on-her-six-years-with-nightwish-its-been-quite-the-ride/
