Honeymooning couple says snorkeling tour group ‘abandoned’ them in waters off Lanai

A California couple has filed a federal lawsuit against a Maui snorkeling tour company, claiming one of their vessels left them behind in waters off Lanai.

If you run a business, you are still responsible for the group of people you are hosting. A simple head count is always needed, there was failure in this incident anyway you look at it and that's why you have attorneys taking this case. It's something very easy to do but wasn't done, now the consequences. They're really no excuses in this case. Here on Oahu we have so many groups of tourist on these types of water excursions everyday and we don't hear about people being left behind because it's really inexcusable and we also have a lot of locals going out on these outings experiences so this applies to all of us.

Problem is we have tourists running tour companies in Hawaiʻi not knowing native protocols and not practicing proper safety measures that’s why people always getting injured or dying the state should have stricter rules on opening tour companies in Hawaiʻi whatever kind of tour it maybe!Something as simple as a sightseeing tour can have a significant impact on people and the ʻĀina where it’s frequently visited!

I went scuba diving out there off Lanai on a tour boat once, the current is incredibly strong. I felt it was irresponsible of them to take us there. All you could do was hang on to the anchor chain all the way to the bottom and then hold on to it. If you let go you would get swept away.

1:55 I've been in this industry and on these tours. It's hard to believe during the check in, boat ride out and prior to entering the water not even a coast guard fellow passenger/customer noticed them missing. Idiocracy at its finest 👌

This is so bad. Wonder if this isn't the first time, and the others who were abandoned were eaten by sharks. I mostly only snorkel in fresh water, thank you.

I mean y is it so hard I mean if I was to take ten or 15 people out snorkeling I myself will be responsible for them n I will make sure I do a head count I just can’t understand what was so hard I would at least have all their names on my list n when it’s time to leave I would do a row call to make sure all of my guest r on my boat n if one or 2 of my guest is missing I would go through protocols like my uncle goes spear diving n me n my sister we would be on the boat n my uncle would leave me n my sister a whistle my uncle said if anything goes wrong to blow the whistle n he will come up from the water n me n my sister was about 10 n 11 yrs old when ever my uncle goes spear diving he would always take me n my sister n little brother out there just about every weekend after we’re done we meet up with our family at the sand bar n bar-b-q what ever my uncle catches on that Saturday morning with his spear…those were the best time in hawai’i RIP uncle David we all love n Miss you❤️❤️❤️ but I just wanna say I’m glad the couple made it back safely much Aloha’s
