Very timely; I ended up with an Ecobee installation; however, you should know I have followed your channel for over 3 years; my home system which is 3 years old and installed by a reputable HVAC company because I was away from the area and my wife needed AC during a heat wave. Bottom line, the Bryant thermostat went blank; I followed one of your diagnostic instruction videos, and located a wire short in the condenser, tested all components and wires, and kept telling my wife I thought it was the thermostat! Since the unit is under warranty, the HVAC installer diagnosed and replaced the thermostat (with Ecobee). BTW, the 3amp little popper is a must with this type of diagnostic workflow. Thank you.

Thanks for this... had a A/C no compressor start problem after doing a breaker identification exercise. Found my yellow line not continuous to the compressor. Traced that back to a failsafe connection on the condensate pump. If the pump stopped it would shut down the compressors. That pump was plugged into an outlet we couldn't identify. Once power was restored to that the compressor started. Your description of how the wiring works gave me a much better handle on how to track it down. Thank you again!

I bought a Royalton 2-stage furnace. I gave it to my friend and it is 60 miles away from here, I have never been able to make this Honeywell thermostat work, I bought one before and we gave up on it as we did in this case again. The furnace says not to hook up the C wire but it doesn't talk about two-stage thermostat connections. I don't know what to switch position is I will check it when I go back to town but we could not get it to operate heat at all. And I contacted them but it was Friday so it's the weekend now and I appreciate the knowledge that I got from this video. I'll get back to you and tell you my progress and we'll check out your wiring charts. I checked out your thermostat wiring charts and it doesn't talk about two-stage furnaces. I would prefer the old-fashioned double Mercury thermostat without all the confusion, and they're not on offer at Lowe's Home Depot.

Best explanation yet! I found that the installer incorrectly wired my T6 so it never ran properly from day one. They had the white wire on "W" which is wrong for a heat pump system. I replaced it with an RTH8500 unit and I also have noticed that the outside unit runs much quieter now. I'm not sure why but the T6 was the date code that is supposed to be defective.

I know it's been a while since your post but came across an HVAC video concerning your problem . Apparently Honeywell had an issue with some of these thermostats . If you look at the back of your thermostat an on the red label you'll see the model number. Right after that should be a 4 digit number. The problem thermostats have a code between 1917 through 1940 per that video. I'm betting your problem thermostats fell between that range. Best of luck.

Nice video. thank you for taking the time to make it and explain this in detail. I'm hoping you and or knowledgeable others would be willing to comment to my question, please. I am having installed, right now, an Amana 2 stage furnace w variable speed blower AMVC960804C and a inverter driven Heat Pump, Amana AVZC200481, with two Honeywell TH6320WF2003 ( a T6 Pro model; I have a 2 zone system) with a New Zone First zone board. The thermostats are wired to what the Honeywell Tstat manual terms a 1H/1C System w 1 transformer for a "conventional" system. This is the most basic wiring in the manual. In the manual are another set of wiring diagrams for "Heat Pump" systems. Am I missing something? Shouldn't my themostat be wired for a Heat Pump System, possibly a 2H/2C or 3H/2C? If left the way it is, is the furnace going to be able to have the two stages act independently? And is the Heat Pump going to act as variable speed or will it act as just a single speed? Which configuration should it be wired for? Given that furnace is 2 stage, seems like 2H should be applicable, or should it be 3H since there is also the Heat Pump? Given that the Heat Pump is inverter driven what #C should be the configuration? If it's left as 1, will it only behave like a single speed? I've pointed out the wiring diag in the manual to the tech who is wrapping up the HPump install now and expressed my concerns. He doesn't seem familiar with this thermostat and is going to defer to someone else later as we go over Tstat operation. I'm not too hopeful that there is going to be a acceptable explanation, but am keeping an open mind, or trying to. Thanks for any input.

Great video but it still left me questions. I have a Honeywell T6 Pro with the external temperature sensor which supports dual fuel. I have a single stage heat pump and gas boiler. So I configured the temperature change (turn off the heat pump, turn on the boiler) to 40 deg F. It seems obvious that I setup for dual power supplies (Rh and Rc) and control the boiler via the W (heat) wire. But what happens to Aux/E? Are they in effect disabled? Or is the thermostat smart enough to know that when the temperature difference is above a couple of degrees that it needs to call for heat via the W wire?
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel Жыл бұрын
You can look up the model thermostat and verify that it is in fact for dual fuel and the settings will allow you to set this up. There should be a differential that you can set. We usually set this for 10-15 degrees or so because we don't want it shifting back and forth.
@litedesign82
@litedesign82 Жыл бұрын
@@acservicetechchannel The differential setting is called "Droop," and it's available on the T6 thermostat, but not the T5. I've read in different places that the Droop threshold will trigger the aux heat anytime the indoor temp is lower than the programmed temp by the determined number of degrees, but I've also read that it will only trigger if it drops below the threshold *after a heating call* from the thermostat, while the heat pump is supposed to be running. I'm not sure which is true.

@tmurrayis 6 ай бұрын
The W2 wire was not explained. I understand it is for second stage heat on a 2 stage furnace. My question is how/when does the stat call the stage 2 heat? Does it look for a temperature differential (room is at 16C and the stat is set for 20C and recovering from a temp set-back overnight) or does it monitor the time taken to get to the set temp and fires the furnace's stage 2 after a set amount of time?

Say for example, if a client had a heat pump system setup that also included a Santa Fe Compact70 (formerly Ultra Aire 70H) dehumidifier inside the mechanical closet with the air handler, how then would we go about wiring it up to the thermostat?

Excellent instruction. I have a Amana 2 stage 3/1/2 ton heat pump 1 1/2 years old with a T6 Pro thermostat. I have had the thermostat replaced once because it did not turn off the unit when set temp was met. The unit normally got out of Recovery stage within 30-40 minutes going from cool 77 to 74 at night. Even though the set temp was met the unit runs for hours? The replacement is also a T6 Pro which I have noticed is NOT cutting off unit at night and runs for hours. AC company says is normal! I know it is not but should cut off within 3-5 minutes after set temp is met. The wiring is correct at thermostat (not opening outside unit). I have purchased a T5 Smart thermostat to replace the T6 but feel it is a unit problem so a waste of money. Can you address this issue for me? Thanks

So in this diagram, you have separate and Aux and E wires tied together at the furnace, so essentially they're jumped together and they do the same thing. In my setup, I have a heat pump on a T5 Wifi thermostat with an R and W back to TT on a gas boiler for backup. I've tried terminating the boiler W wire at E and at AUX, but as far as I can tell, there's no difference. Both terminals activate when the thermostat is calling for more than 2-3º of extra heat, and both activate when I turn on Emergency Heat manually. What gives? I guess I need a call to Honeywell.

I'm trying to use a heat pump with no auxilliary strips and a boiler for 'emergency heat' when it gets below 35°, but can't get this t-stat to switch to boiler without the indoor fan continuing to run on the heat pump?

I had this problem too. After several lengthy calls with Honeywell tech support, I discovered most Honeywell thermostats are not capable of handling that setup. The T6 Pro (non-work) shown here is the only one. In Installer Setup (ISU) there are a couple of settings # 270 and 270 that control whether the thermostat runs the fan in Aux and Emergency heat mode. All other Honeywell thermostats assume you’re using a furnace as backup and always run the fan. I really like the Honeywell’s for everything else, so I’m probably going to just going to add a separate thermostat for the boiler.

I have the same thermostat, and for some reason the fan-on mode does not work. Even though the fan works normally in heating mode.

All of the wires are connected and my system is not turning on. Do you know what can be wrong? It was working and they were going to install the google thermostat but we decided to keep the Honeywell. After the reinstallation of the Honeywell the ac/heat is not turning on.

Hello I'm new to your channel. Just switched from honeywell thermostat to Amazon smart thermostat. I have six wires. I believe we have central cooling with a heat pump. We have upstairs and downstairs. Upstairs has 5 wires. Outside we have two ac units it looks like one has copper coils inside. Problem is, when I put the ac on, it blows warm air and it doesn't feel cool. I hooked the wires up like this. R G Y O/B C What am I doing wrong??? Upstairs thermostat works well on heat and ac. I'm completely lost. Please help if you can. Great video btw 👌 downstairs with 6 (only 5 are connected. ) wires is having the issue. On the honeywell thermostat before, had the R wire, jumped into the RC slot I guess. Man I don't know. Thank you for your time God bless.

I’ve installed a very large amount of t4 and t6 (lyric and regular) thermostats and have maybe replaced 3 that were still under warranty. Unless you’re getting the Home Depot t series or wiring them/programming them wrong, I don’t understand peoples issues.

@@robertjameson1959 the older T6s had issues bringing on back up heat if it was a gas furnace and not heat strips. You could sometimes fix it by removing W on the heat pump but then you would lose your Aux heat during defrost.

Could there possibly be a cheaper honeywell thermostat? At least give your customers the 1006 or the 6580 wifi. Don't install bottom of the barrel junk and NEVER install the stupid batteries! When the thing is blank, half my trouble shooting is done when I show up!
